No permission from the photographer. Picture is not old enough for PD-old. Jcb (talk) 21:38, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Rijksmuseum makes all its downloadable images available either as PD or CC0, see their API conditions. Unfortunately they don't present this information very clearly at the level of individual artworks, but the fact that the image is downloadable there in full resolution DOES mean that it's CC0 in this case. Images that are not CC0/PD are not downloadable (example). Spinster (talk) 08:39, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Rijksmuseum does not seem to be the copyright holder in this case, so that they are not in a position to release this picture into a free license. We need to see permission from Rene den Engelsman. In the Netherlands, like in most other countries, copyright belongs in principle to the person who took the picture. The only exception would be if the photographer would have a fixed employment at the museum in the explicit function of 'photographer'. This uploader has uploaded pictures from so many different photographers, that it would be unthinkable that the Rijksmuseum would have so many photographers on their payroll. On linkedin the author declares himself as "object and art photografer at Rijksmuseum".--Strainu (talk) 22:46, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but apparently as a freelance photographer (via Rene den Engelsman Fotografie), not as an employee. In the Netherlands, freelance photographers own, as a person, the copyright of pictures they take, unless there is a written agreement to the contrary. Jcb (talk) 15:48, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
