Dear Michael,

Can you decide whether to pass or fail this image? The current license for this image is CC BY NC SA 4.0 but the archive version may have been CC BY SA 4.0 at upload. I revoked my license review as the archive version does not have a photo...although I think it is the same one since it has same source. If it cannot be passed, then its better to fail it. it is only 1 image.

I am working on Lymantria's review list but it is a long lot...and I have removed those images which I marked. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:32, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Leoboudv! When I look at https://laji.fi/taxon/MX.59786/identification I see the text below the photo:

"Tekijänoikeuksien haltija: Saara Salmela Lisenssi: CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 Kuvateksti: OP: Oulun yliopiston Tietotalo 25.7.2022"

When I look at https://web.archive.org/web/20221215004439/https://laji.fi/taxon/MX.59786/identification I also see the text below the photo:

"Tekijänoikeuksien haltija: Saara Salmela Lisenssi: CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 Kuvateksti: OP: Oulun yliopiston Tietotalo 25.7.2022"

So in both cases the license is NC. Do you see something else?

The list reminds me I once made this en:User:MGA73/sandbox with a few mushroomobserver.org files. --MGA73 (talk) 07:22, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: Yes...you are right. On the archive link the license first shows as CC BY SA 4.0 and then changes to CC BY NC SA 4.0. I will have to file a DR here. There is too much doubt here. By the way, feel free to review 10-20 images on this Lymantria's review list Best Wishes, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:51, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Leoboudv! Yeah there are still many left. I did a few too. I try to clean up GFDL files across wikis. It seems there are about 163,000 files licensed GFDL. Guess it will take some time... --MGA73 (talk) 21:02, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: I have always said that the main strengths of wikipedia and is also its main weakness....it relies on unpaid volunteers who also have busy personal lives. And with the cost of living being so high in Canada, there is only so much or so little time that I can spend on wikipedia/wikicommons. Today, in Canada, many people cannot afford real estate and and yes! Beautiful Canada has a homeless problem sadly in parks because our PM Trudeau brings in too many people into Canada at the same time and it is happening in many cities in my country: https://ottawacitizen.com/feature/tent-city-nation The scary thing is many people with mental illness also live in homeless shelters. But they won't mention this in a visiting Canada google search. For you, it is better or safer to visit Malaysia or Thailand where you can buy Pierre Cardin shirts cheaper in the shopping malls because the local Malaysian or Thai money is worth so low in value. I still have the Pierre Cardin business shirt I bought for a cheap price when I visited my relatives in Malaysia around KL or Kuala Lumpur. In Canada, the shirt would cost a fortune. Life is so expensive here. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:22, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We can only hope that it will get better. Most countries find out that migration is a problem. Someone said that in Denmark 50 years ago and they were called racists and the parliament ignored them. 20 years ago the parliament changed laws and made it harder for migrants. Other countries called Denmark racist. Now many countries do what Denmark did 20 years ago. Hopefully Canada will also get there one day. --MGA73 (talk) 12:33, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment: Before Trudeau II became PM of Canada, Canada allowed in about 200,000 immigrants a year under Liberal PM Jean Chretien (1993-2004) and Conservative PM Steven Harper (2006-2015). This year, Trudeau intends to bring in 450,000 immigrants a year...which is crazy with the lack of doctors and housing and high housing prices. I guess Trudeau II thinks that the new immigrants will support him by voting Liberal when they become Canadian citizens but even new immigrants are struggling to survive in Canada with everything so expensive. Unfortunately, the next election in Canada is probably in October 2025...a very long time. Today, unless one is rich, a single family home is almost unaffordable and cost more than $1,000,000 Canadian. But Trudeau II comes from a rich family as his late father Pierre Trudeau was PM of Canada from 1968 to 1984. So, he is not affected here. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:38, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Leoboudv: Hopefully enough people agree with you and chose someone else so things can improve! --MGA73 (talk) 20:11, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please review these 2 images

[edit]

Dear Admin Michael,

Can you please review these two rare 100+ year old images from 1917 of a fungi species that is almost impossible to source. This explains why the species is so dried up and the paper records look so old. The specimen actually dates to 1917 and copyright owner is Harvard University. They say the license is public domain...which I assume is CC0. But feel free to change the license to any other PD version if you wish.

I cannot find any other species of this fungi anywhere....and was surprised this was free. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:26, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Leoboudv! I can find a link to https://huh.harvard.edu/access-digital-reproductions-works-public-domain and that is not the same as cc0. But I do not know if we have a template that is 100% perfect here. I wonder if it is more like Template:PD-author-FlickrPDM? --MGA73 (talk) 18:50, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment: Dear Michael,

I have put the {{PD-author-FlickrPDM}} license but actually this image is not from flickr. Since the Harvard source says the collection was taken in 1917, you relicense the images as either PD-1922 or PD|Harvard University. You are the expert here. But they are certainly PD and the copyright owner is Harvard University. Please select the best license and review the 2 images. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:24, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh 1917... Then it is good! I do not know how I missed that. --MGA73 (talk) 20:36, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment: Thanks for your kind help Michael. The specimen is all dried up and the paper records is old. The Harvard source clearly says August 1917. This is the only image of this species anywhere on the internet. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:39, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah it is a nice catch! --MGA73 (talk) 20:46, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
