Borrowed into West Semitic from Akkadian 𒀀𒂵𒈬𒌝 (agammum), from Sumerian 𒀀𒂵𒄠 (agam). Compare Classical Syriac ܐܓܡܐ (ʾaḡmā, marsh, swamp) and Arabic أَجَمَة (ʔajama, jungle, brushwood).
