This is a beautiful mixture of deco cocktail paraphernalia from my collection, circa 1930's-1940. The rare ice bucket is made by Revere, Rome NY, and it's one of my absolutely favorite art deco designs with its bakelite base, finial, and handles. When opened up, it has a cobalt blue glass insert that holds the ice. The design has been attributed to both industrial designers Archibald Welden and Norman Bel Geddes. In his book "Affordable Art Deco," Ken Hutchison calls it an "inspiring design," and I have to agree with that description. Honestly, the ice bucket reminds me of a Teletubby head! It's so whimsical. The amazing blue mirror and chrome cocktail tray is a custom made piece. When I bought it from the dealer, the tag on it said it was made in 1940 by a husband for his wife--what a great gift. The craftsmanship typifies the era. The use of blue mirrors was popular during the Art deco period, and often showed up on wall mirrors, vanity trays, and decorative accents. This is the first cocktail tray that I've seen that uses a blue mirror, which makes the entire tray very heavy and fragile. |
