Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Hope, a drover's stance? The Scots pine is a traditional drover's sign post. I remember being told that once Welsh cattle came through on the way to Worcester before the railway. Another tradition in the area is capping hills with Scots pine. The High Vinnalls used to have a pine wood on top, but eventually the wind removed the trees. Hope is the last house in the Hope, a partly wooded valley on the dip slope of the High Vinnalls. Hope is the same word as is used in the Scottish Border country for a steep sided blind valley.
