General Sir Herbert Hart, Wellington Infantry Regiment, WW1 bronze circular medal, 18mm diameter, ring suspender, with ribbon obverse- The winged, full-length figure of Victory, with her arm extended and holding a palm branch in her right hand. reverse- inscription ‘THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION, 1914-1919’ surrounded by a wreath. named on edge- ribbon- grosgrain ribbon, 15mm wide, rainbow pattern. |

Notes | Victory Medal 1914-18 (miniature) Herbert Ernest Hart, Wellington Infantry Regiment, WW1 Military service- Anglo-Boer War- Herbert E Hart enlisted in the 9th NZMR WW1- Appointed 2nd in command of the Wellington Battalion which left New Zealand with the Main Body. He was present at the Gallipoli landing on 25 April 1915 and on 27 April took part in halting the Turkish attack at Walker's Ridge. That evening he was shot in the thigh at close range. For his gallantry and leadership during this action he was mentioned in despatches and appointed a DSO. Hart was mentioned in despatches five times during WW1, awarded the French Croix de Guerre and made a CB. In early 1931 he was appointed as NZ administrator in Western Samoa. During WW2 he served in the 2NZEF Staff Office, Cairo. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
