Proposal - The lead image on Ahmed Yassin is disparaging and ought to be changed

[[:File:Sheikahmedyassin300.jpg|thumb|Ahmed Yassin Ahmed Yassin]]

Arguments for

1) Avraham has selected an image of Ahmed Yassin for his article which is unflattering and disparaging likely because of his personal, pro-Israeli POV concerning this individual. Other pro-Israel editors help maintain the image. These editors have persisted over a long period in preventing this image from being changed (see edit summaries regarding the image below).
History of edits for this image
[1]Avraham deletes previous long standing image for this article and puts the image under contention in place
[2] - Avraham deletes an editors replacement, claiming copyright violation
[3] - Avraham deletes an editors replacement, b/c he claims stylized imagery is undesirable
[4] - Avraham deletes an editors replacement, claiming copyright violation
[5] - Avraham restores image after it is deleted
[6] - Avraham deletes an editors replacement, claiming copyright violation
[7]Epeefleche deletes replacement image w/ edit summary “add a picture if you like, but no reason to delete this picture”
[8] - Avraham deletes my replacement, claiming copyright violation
[9]Brewcrewer deletes my replacement, claiming Wikipedia:MUG doesn’t apply to deceased persons. Oddly this is Brewcrewer’s, who in this editor’s opinion has proIsrael POV, first edit on this page.
2) per Wikipedia:MUG#Images - Images "should not be used out of context to present a person in a false or disparaging light". Obviously this is going to be a judgement call, but I don’t think the current image is particularly flattering. Presenting a cripple, all alone, looking slightly dopey, in a room that looks like a sanitarium seems a little skewed.
3) The current image is used under a historical free-use rationale which could be applied to any number of images.

Arguments against

1) The fact that he was in a wheelchair is an important part of his bio
2) This picture has been in the article for a long time in stable fashion
3) The New York Times picture (i.e. the current image) has both provenance and historical value.
4) The picture in the article has historical significance, as it is the last picture taken of him before his death.
5) That the image portrays him badly is POV, and other editors have claimed it presents him too well.
6) (as argued by brewcrewer)Wikipedia:MUG#Images applies to BLP, so presumably using images that "present a person in a false or disparaging light" is ok for dead people
7) The only better alternative would be a free-use image which no one has offered.

Please comment using the following format

Keep the current image - justification
Change the current image - justification (optionally, offer an potential alternative)

Thanks to everyone in advance for their time and consideration

  • Change the current image - per nom (suggest this image as an alternative)
