Per WP:ARBCOM/TROUBLES, all articles that "could be reasonably construed as being related to The Troubles, Irish nationalism, and British nationalism in relation to Ireland" are under a WP:1RR restriction and are subject to discretionary sanctions. You just came very close to violating the 1RR - please take more care in the future, and consider your tone when discussing these articles with other editors. Thanks. --<span class="gfSarekSig">SarekOfVulcan (talk)</span> 18:04, 21 February 2013 (UTC) |

ArbCom run
Unfortunately, you are not eligible to run for ArbCom this year because you do not meet the required edit count. Please read WP:NOTNOW - it is written to those applying for administrator, but is also applicable for ArbCom candidates, as the standard for ArbCom is even higher. Thank you. --Rschen7754 02:15, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

- If an administrator would spell out the terms of a mentoring program, I would be willing to help facilitate one. I've never done it before, so it would largely be on the job training, but I think that I can be of some help. I would just want to know what kind of mentoring would be needed. Traditional adoption? Just a few lessons? --Go Phightins! 02:58, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm thinking it's just a bit of an "interpersonal skills" issue that we have here. (Again, I hope Mr Basket will not be offended at this suggestion.) Anyone who's been around wikipedia a while and has plenty of editing experience should be able to give him the right kind of advice/assistance, as long as they are willing to give the time to it. In your case, it looks like you're not really working in the same subject area, which would make you more objective and thus a good candidate. Deb (talk) 11:18, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
- So what would exactly be expected of me? Running him through some lessons from here such as five pillars, dispute resolution, and policies? Or just generally monitoring his contributions? Go Phightins! 20:11, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'd say you'd be someone he could go to when he couldn't decide what to do - particularly when faced with some kind of dispute. On his part, it would be evidence of good faith and a wish to avoid any conduct that might lead to a block in the future. Deb (talk) 12:29, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. License tagging for File:Joeoconnell82a.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Joeoconnell82a.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:Joeoconnell82a.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Joeoconnell82a.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:01, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

- Hi Floater thanks for the offer of help and apologies for the slight delay in response! The image that is to be deleted; I think it is copyright free (from an election pamphlet) but I didn't understand the file tagging! Any advice appreciated! Basket Feudalist 12:53, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

admin help This article Martin O'Connell (Irish republican) needs to be moved as per WP:COMMON to Joe O'Connell (Irish republican) as Joe rather than Martin was the name he was familiarly known by (as the image shows)- I tried moving the article to the new page but it wouldn't let me. - Done. You need to provide a non-free use rationale for the image, which should refer to the new title as the article where the image is used. JohnCD (talk) 17:28, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks John. Is it absolutely certain that there is no free-use of it? It was originally a leaflet publically distributed. Thanks for your advice either way. Basket Feudalist 18:00, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Image copyright is a pain.
- If it is a "free" image, it can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, which makes it available to all the Wikimedia projects. But "free" means that it is demonstrable that the image is in the "public domain" (which is a technical term in copyright law and does not mean "available to the public"), or it is available under a license compatible with Wikipedia's CC-BY-SA. You could try asking at commons:Commons:Upload help, but I don't think there is any chance that having been used as a poster or handed out as a leaflet is enough - the copyright still belongs to somebody, and the fact that nobody knows who that is is not a reason for ignoring it.
- If it is not free, it can still be used on the English Wikipedia under a "Fair use rationale", if it meets all ten of the conditions at WP:NFCC, which should be possible here. A FUR needs to be supplied for each article that uses it (only one, in this case), and there is Template:Non-free use rationale that you can use.
- General advice at WP:Image use policy. JohnCD (talk) 18:37, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Gotya! -I'll deal with that ASAP.. i.e., probably tomorrow now! -but thanks. Basket Feudalist 18:44, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Some inquiry
Hi You Can Act Like A Man, I am a bit confused about the article creation process, and I would be grateful if you could rid my confusion. As far as I can remember, I never had to undergo the article submission and approval process earlier for new article creation in Wikipedia before. Has there been any change in the protocol lately or did I initiate a wrong protocol? I must confess that it was very long ago that I had created any new article. I would be grateful if you could approve it soon, so that my wiki friends can work on it too. The article as it stands is a rough draft that I had removed from another article, since the story was getting too long. I hope to work on it in coming months, but accessing the article via Article Creation link feels too clumsy. I hope you understand. (Manoguru (talk) 17:32, 29 January 2013 (UTC))

And thanks for the colour change - It looks a lot better now.

- There's a working prototype thats available. I often use it just to keep an eye out for promising and disruptive newcomers. Then I manually go to their respective pages and send the necessary Welcome or ARV tags. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:04, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think there will be more features added later on. Those will probably make sure we can use Snuggle to send the welcomes etc. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:06, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Certificates of Claim
You have recently reviewed the article I created on Certificates of Claim and awarded it a C-grade, which I find both inexplicable and unacceptable.
The criteria for this grade is that the article "...is still missing important content or contains a lot of irrelevant material..." and it, "...may need editing for clarity, balance or flow; or contain policy violations such as bias or original research." For the reader it is "...useful to a casual reader, but would not provide a complete picture for even a moderately detailed study." In other words, the article lacks credibility.
I guess from your profile that you may not have much knowledge of colonial Nyasaland nor of the legal issues surrounding the land issues there, but you have presumably had some basis for your judgement. Could you please therefore draw my attention to:
1. What important content is missing or what material is irrelevant?
2. Where it is unclear, unbalanced or not flowing?
3. Where there is bias or original research?
4. Why it does not provide a complete picture for even a moderately detailed study?
Admittedly I am the author, but I don't see how it fails to gain a GA-grade om its merits. If you can find a better summary of the topic let me know.
Finally, I have gone to a significant amount of time and trouble to prepare this article because as someone who has both lived and worked in Malawi and studied it academically, I want it to be better-known and reported. However, it is extremely demotivating to be told what, in the face of it, is a wholly credible article is third or fourth rate.
I would therefore ask you either to review and upwardly revise your grading or justify it in detail.
Shscoulsdon (talk) 15:03, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
I really do apologise old man, I thought that was exactly hat had been awarded. Unfortunately, 90% of articles that are accepted are C-class or stubs, so that sometimes it is habit forming. A lapse of concentration, I'm afraid. Au contraire neither my profile nor my interests prevent me from recognising a good article when I see one! Anyway, dispense with your demotivation, and carry on!!!. Thanks for alerting me. Basket Feudalist 15:19, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

It may not have been your intention, but one of your edits, specifically one that you made on Talk:Westboro Baptist Church, may have introduced material that some consider controversial. Due to this, your edits may have been reverted. When adding material that may be controversial, it is good practice to first discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them, in order to gain consensus over whether or not to include, phrasing, etc. If you believe that the information you added was correct, please initiate that discussion. The Tea Leaf - Issue Seven
Hello again! We have some neat updates about the Teahouse:
- We’ve added badges! Teahouse awards is a pilot project to learn how acknowledgement impacts engagement and retention in Teahouse and Wikipedia.
- We’ve got a new WikiLove Badge script that makes giving badges quick and easy. Add it here. You can give out badges to thank helpful hosts, welcome guests, acknowledge great questions and more.
- Come join the experiment and let us know what you think!
- And...for all of your great work and all of the progress that you've helped the Teahouse make, we hereby award you the Host Badge:
Teahouse Host Badge | |
Awarded to hosts at the Wikipedia Teahouse. Experienced editors with this badge have committed to welcoming guests, helping new editors, and upholding the standards of the Teahouse by giving friendly and patient guidance—at least for a time. Hosts illuminate the path for new Wikipedians, like Tōrō in a Teahouse garden. |

Just a quickie follow up, if you are confident that text is lifted off another website, remove it immediately, and if the entire article is copied, propose it for speedy deletion via db-copyvio. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:22, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks mate. I already declined the AfC though I'm afraid (on the grounds i gave)- so can it still be deleted etc? Basket Feudalist 12:31, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, the Gxx ("general") CSD criteria (such as copyright - which is G12), apply to absolutely any page on Wikipedia, and speedy deleting AfC submissions as copyvios is fair game. A copyright violation is a copyright violation, regardless of where it appears. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:02, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

TAFI
Hello,
The Project is almost ready to hit the Main Page, where it will be occupying a section just below "Did you Know" section. Three article from the weekly batch of 7 will be displayed randomly at the main page, the format of which can be seen at the Main Page sandbox. There is also an ongoing discussion at the Main page talk over the final details before we can go forward with the Main Page. If you have any ideas to discuss with everyone else, please visit the TAFI Talk Page and join in on the ongoing discussions there. You are also invited to add new nominations, and comment and suport on the current ones at the Nominations page. You can also help by helping in the discussions at the Holding Area. Above all, please do not forget to improve our current Today's Articles for Improvement Thank you and hoping to have some productive work from you at the Project, |
Thank you!!! for adding "Major Edit" tag on "Impalement"!!
I ceratainly prefer to be "alone" about restructuring of article here; thought about doing this prior to GA nomination, on basis of short thrift there, have decided to comprise article in major way to make it more readable to less ghoulish readers than myself. :-)Arildnordby (talk) 16:36, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
Allah Las article rejection
The article I submitted for review about the Allah Las was rejected for not having references that proved its noteworthiness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Allah_Las).
Among other sources, the article referenced: 1. NPR's national website 2. LA Weekly, a major LA news and events periodical 3. Amoeba Music's website, one of the largest (if not the largest) independent record stores in the Unites States that is also known as an arbiter of up and coming musical acts
The references in the Allah Las article seem every bit as strong as the sources cited in this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Growlers
Can you please clarify?

I have removed your "brick wall" comment from this talk page. Although editors stated it should be struck, I would go further as I predict this editor would pounce on it as evidence of Wikipedia being a troublesome and problematic environment. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:00, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Discretionary sanctions warning
Per WP:ARBCOM/TROUBLES, all articles that "could be reasonably construed as being related to The Troubles, Irish nationalism, and British nationalism in relation to Ireland" are under a WP:1RR restriction and are subject to discretionary sanctions. You just came very close to violating the 1RR - please take more care in the future, and consider your tone when discussing these articles with other editors. Thanks. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:04, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
