Robert Arthur "Rob" Knox (21 August 1989[1] - 24 May 2008) was a British actor who played the role of Marcus Belby in the to-be-released film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2008), and had signed to appear in the planned film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.[2] He died after being stabbed in Sidcup, England, on May 24, 2008, when he intervened in a fight to protect his brother.
Career
Knox had been acting since the age of 11, and his first credited role was a small part in an episode of the ITV police drama The Bill and he also appeared in the Channel 4 reality show "Trust me I'm a Teenager", and the BBC comedy After You've Gone. He had previously appeared as an extra in a number of productions such as the 2004 film King Arthur. He also appeared on Tonight with Trevor McDonald.[3][2]
He was cast as Ravenclaw student Marcus Belby in the 2008 film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.[4]
Death
Knox died at the age of 18 after he was stabbed outside the Metro Bar in Sidcup, of South-East London, England, on May 24, 2008. He had intervened in a fight in order to protect his 16-year-old brother, Jamie, who was allegedly being threatened by two men. One of the men was armed with two knives.[5][6][7] Warner Bros. released a statement concerning his death: "We are all shocked and saddened by this news and at this time our sympathies are with his family."[5]
A 21-year-old from southeast London is being held in custody on suspicion of murder.[2]
