Tigran Khzmalyan (also known as Xmalian) (Armenian: Տիգրան Խզմալյան) is an independent Armenian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer.

Education

Political and social activism

He was a member of the Armenian National Congress of Levon Ter-Petrosian, then left it due to disagreements.[1] In 2009, together with Jirair Sefilian and Alexander Yenikomshian founded Sardarapat Movement.

In early 2012, Khzmalyan was one of the leaders of the Mashtots Park Movement.

In 2012, Khzmalian was criticized by Armenian media when his wife was included in the parliamentary list of Armenia's ruling Republican party.[2] The Armenia's Central Election Commission confirmed that Narine Mirzoyan, spouse of Tigran Khzmalyan, submitted a certificate stating she has been permanent resident of Armenia during the past five years. Previously Khzmalyan claimed neither he nor his wife were aware that Mirzoyan was included in RPA list. When journalists called her, Khzmalian's wife disconnected her phone thus indirectly confirming that her husband did not tell the truth.[3][4] The opposition activist Khzmalian promised his wife will sign a withdrawal note.[1]
