The Dream class is a class of cruise ships, operated by Carnival Cruise Lines, The lead vessel of the class, Carnival Dream, entered service in September 2009.[2]

The Carnival Dream and her sisters, Carnival Magic and Carnival Breeze, measures 130,000 GT and are the largest ships ever built for Carnival Cruises. The vessel's design is an evolution from the Conquest class cruise ships. Notable additions in the designs are a half-mile exterior promenade on deck 5, with outside cafes, Jacuzzis situated along the edge of the promenade, and an Aqua Park.

History

The first Dream-class vessel, which was eventually named Carnival Dream, was ordered on December 14, 2005, in Fincantieri. The order also includes the ships: Nieuw Amsterdam, for Holland America Line; Ruby Princess, for Princess Cruises; and Costa Pacifica, for Costa Cruises. The four ships, and the options, were simultaneously ordered by Carnival Corporation for USD 3 billion.[3]

The Carnival Dream then launched at Monfalcone in 24 October 2008.[4] The ship was delivered in 17 September 2009, fifteen months after her launch, at the Monfalcone yards.[5]

Option for a second vessel was exercised, which is the Carnival Magic. The ship was ordered in 18 December 2006[6] and keel was then laid on 12 January 2010.[7] The ship debuted on 1 May 2011.[7]

The third ship was ordered 1 December 2009, which was officially named Carnival Breeze on 11 May 2010.[8] The ship is expected by Spring 2012. It sailed on June 3 2012 from Italy.

Costa Cruises has ordered a ship of 132,500 GT, Costa Diadema, which will be a fourth sister to this class, expected to be delivered in Fall 2014.[9]

Features

The Dream-class cruise ships offer a limited number of family size staterooms, with two bathrooms and five beds, a 19,000 sq ft (1,800 m2) children's facility with expansive play areas, a huge Carnival WaterWorks aqua park, a two-level adults-only Retreat, and a 23,750 sq ft (2,206 m2) wellness area.[10]
