– i) Racing is too generic not related to motorsport, as that article suggests. ii) Not all motorsport disciplines using these groups take the form of auto racing. Some groups are categorised as 'racing' whereas others are not (see tables). iii) Instead of Group 1 (motorsport), using (FIA) is more specific to whose Groups these articles are about, as other motorsport authorities may have their own groups. Rally Wonk (talk) 18:07, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose By tables, I assume you mean the tables on Group 1 (racing)? Because all of those items on the tables are used in motorsports, so your statement about not all groups being used for auto racing is incorrect. Cars classified in Group 1 through Group 7 were all used in auto racing. What other motorsport authorities use these Group titles? If they don't exist, we shouldn't need to disambiguate them. Motorsport is the most common, easiest-to-understand disambiguation for these articles, using FIA is not helpful to readers. The359 (Talk) 22:54, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@The359 Let's be clear: auto racing is a form of automobile sport and a form of motorsport, but not all automobile sport and/or motorsport is auto racing. The terms are not interchangeable. All these groups can be used for auto racing, true, but this should not restrict the scope of the articles unnecessarily.
Readers on Groups 1-5 can see in the post-1966 table that these groups are not categorised as a racing car. Already we should have to make a distinction that shouldn't be necessary to avoid confusion.
I would be open to Group 1 (motorsport) as a suggestion, as it's an improvement on both racing and auto racing, but FIA is definitive whilst it also omits non-automobile sport. National authorities and various promoters have made more attempts then is countable at automobile sport series, and we can also look at FIM and boating within motorsport, where there are numbered Groups for Moto2/3 etc, and Rally2/3/4 etc. I'm not going looking for specific examples to make this point. If these were named groups then things might be different, but Group 1 could be the first of anybody's group, just as the FIA's Group 1 was originally called. Rally Wonk (talk) 16:52, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. Move to Group 1 (motorsport), per OP. 162 etc. (talk) 16:59, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
