Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Appearance
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Uncontroversial technical requests
Contested technical requests
- James Martin Hayes → James Hayes (archbishop of Halifax) (move · discuss) – Per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:BISHOP. 142.160.131.202 (talk) 02:15, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- James Hayes (bishop) → James Hayes (archbishop of Cagayan de Oro) (move · discuss) – There is another notable bishop with the name James Hayes; disambiguating per WP:BISHOP. After the move, all of the existing links to the article will need to be corrected and then James Hayes (bishop) should be redirected to James Hayes. 142.160.131.202 (talk) 01:46, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- Richard Smith (bishop) → Richard Smith (vicar apostolic of England) (move · discuss) – There is another notable bishop with the name Richard Smith; disambiguating per WP:BISHOP. After the move, all of the existing links to the article will need to be corrected and then Richard Smith (bishop) should be redirected to Richard Smith#Religion. 142.160.131.202 (talk) 01:42, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- Thomas Collins (bishop) (currently a redirect to Thomas Collins) → Thomas Collins (bishop of Meath) (move · discuss) – There are other notable bishops with the name Thomas Collins; disambiguating per WP:BISHOP. After the move, all of the existing links to the article will need to be corrected and then Thomas Collins (bishop) should be redirected to Thomas Collins. 142.160.131.202 (talk) 01:42, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- Thomas Christopher Collins (currently a redirect to Thomas Collins (cardinal)) → Thomas Collins (archbishop of Toronto) (move · discuss) – Per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:BISHOP. Note that the current name doesn't qualify for WP:NATURAL as the middle name is not "commonly" used. 142.160.131.202 (talk) 23:15, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
- All of these should be discussed because some of them are at natural disambiguations already, which might be preferable. I'm not sure if combining the RMs with similar names would be preferred, so moving down here to get a second opinion. TonyBallioni (talk) 02:54, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- @TonyBallioni: Three of the five are not at natural disambiguations, even if we assume James Martin Hayes and Thomas Christopher Collins meet the standards of WP:NATURAL. And as these are merely technical requests, there is no need to move into a more formal discussion unless they are contested – there is no presumption that they meet the criteria of WP:NATURAL when no one has made the argument that they do (unless, of course, you are). 142.160.131.202 (talk) 03:25, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
