Powers and abilities

[edit]

What are Magog's powers and abilities? I read Kingdom Come a while ago but I don't remember. Just superstrength/invulnerability? Vignettelante 05:23, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gog/Magog

[edit]

The original Kingdom Come sequel that alex ross and mark waid were going to produce would have had Gog be Magog's mentor, and Magog would have been Superman/Wonder Woman's child. My source is Alex Ross's book "Mythology". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.10.161.253 (talk) 15:52, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Magogactionfigure.jpg

[edit]

Image:Magogactionfigure.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

It appears that the character of Lance is for all extents and purposes Magog, and was introduced in such fashion to provide backstory for the evolution into Magog. The brief distinction between the two, does not change the thematic utilization and syncrony of the characters as Magog. This is similar to the Iron Lad/Kang example, Vision/Vision and even Tom Riddel. Lance's most common name, particularly with a series around the corner is Magog, and even the page is structured to reflect that. -Sharp962 (talk) 00:50, 21 July 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Merged after two months of no contention. Posted on talk and WP:C notice board. -Sharp962 (talk) 16:15, 20 September 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Redirect issues

[edit]

I've restored Lance (comics) to a redirect and noted the following:

  • Regarding the proposal and the merge:
    • The bulk of that article has been merged over to here.
    • Prior to the merge there was a significant amount of duplication between the two articles.
    • Both topics are tightly connected and can be covered in one article.
    • Neither article was "large" to begin with and the merged one is well under the ~50K where article splitting is normally considered.
  • Regarding content:
    • There is an issue about assuming that the KC and JSA characters are one and the same. Without either a story directly linking the two or a comment from Johns and/or Ross that "Yes, it is the same character", the assumption falls under WP:OR or WP:SYNTH.

As it stands, the merge is a reasonable action here. It was proposed 2 months ago and acted on when no comments - to endorse or object - were raised. At this point reversions without comment as done here and here look to be disruptive. If the editor making such a reversion had more involvement in either article it would also look like a WP:OWN issue. In this light, if there are concerns, please raise then on this talk page and hash them out before taking the drastic action of undoing the merge, in full or in part.

As an additional thought - the tone of the sections really needs to reflect that these are two versions of the character. This includes the start of the paragraph following the Ross quote, the infobox, the powers section, and the categories. The categories especially are going to be a sore point since there are going to be 3 sets - categories that are common to both, categories that only apply to the KC version, and those that only apply to the "Reid" version. It may not be proper to eliminate all or most of the categories from the 2nd or 3rd sets.

Exploring the two characters, I think there are a few ways to approach the different character. My first thought is 2 hero boxes, to make a greater distintion between the two. The herobox could replace P&A section. The 2nd would be to gut some of the cats, supervillain/hero ->character and so forth. The versions of the character are unconventional in the publication, but I don't believe irresolvable. Any other ideas? -Sharp962 (talk) 00:17, 21 September 2009 (UTC).[reply]
No two superheroboxes. Brian Boru is awesome (talk) 01:17, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
BBia has a point, we've been trying to move away from more than one infobox on the articles.
As for the categories... it is possible to flip some of them to the primary redirects. The rub is going to be debut and character type. My pref would be to leave those here and possibly double up on them for the redirects. - J Greb (talk) 17:41, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What about internal qualifiers in the herobox, like ... 1st appearance Kingdom Come ... David Reid to point to greater distinction. Along the same lines, a full separtion between publication and FCB in the text. -Sharp962 (talk) 19:10, 21 September 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Merge issues again

[edit]

It seems the two characters have essentially been merged - compare the current version with the last separate one. The Kingdom Come universe is an alternate future and is designated as Earth-22, the main DCU character is a separate character (basically an alternative version of the Kingdom Come character, as was reflected in that edit I link to), jamming them together is confusing and inaccurate. Thoughts? This same issue has come up over Kid Flash (Iris West) as they have introduced a main DCU alternate version. (Emperor (talk) 00:20, 28 November 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Terrible Grammar

[edit]

My main issue is that I have noticed lately that the grammar at the end of a lot of these discussions is just terrible in every sense of the word. Is there any way to prevent people from doing that? I understand if it is someone foreign writing it and the translation software botched the english, but it seriously looks like something my 3 year old wrote.(Timmyfitz161 (talk) 17:37, 3 May 2011 (UTC))[reply]

clarification needed

[edit]

The bio section is very unclear-- were there two Gog's? Is Reid first Gog and then Magog? How does Gog (comics) relate? tahc chat 21:52, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 9 June 2021

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Magog (DC Comics). There is consensus that a different disambiguator is called for, but not which one. I double-checked WP:NCCDAB and it permits this type of dab under the clause If a character name has been used by more than one publisher, use the publisher name to disambiguate, the other publisher here being the Bible. :) There are precedents (of unknown weight) such as Cyclone (DC Comics) and Blue Devil (DC Comics). Magog (comics)Magog (DC Comics) – accurate naming convention per guidelines. NeoBatfreak (talk) 03:41, 9 June 2021 (UTC) Relisting. Elli (talk | contribs) 13:10, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, perhaps (character) may also lead to confusion with Magog (Bible). I am still opposed to (comics) in this case, since WP:NCCDAB tells us to use that specifically for a publication. Magog (comics character) or Magog (DC Comics character) would be fine. 162 etc. (talk) 18:45, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
