Help with article for former Maryland lawmaker

[edit]

Hi there, Marylandstater. As an active member of WikiProject Maryland, I wanted to see if you'd be interested in helping review an edit request for Stewart W. Bainum Jr. Mr. Bainum is a former state lawmaker in the Maryland House of Delegates and Maryland Senate, and has held leadership positions with Choice Hotels and HCR Manor Care, among other businesses. Via the edit request, I'm proposing a new draft to improve the structure of the article, fix inaccuracies, and include more details about Mr. Bainum's business and political careers. From news clippings provided by Mr. Bainum and from research on Lexis Nexis and HighBeam, I've been able to find a lot of older sources that provide information about his political career and development of the company that became Choice Hotels. In full disclosure, I have a financial COI, so I won't make any edits to the live article, and I'm reaching out to get feedback and help taking live appropriate changes from uninvolved editors such as yourself. It would be great if you're able to take a look, as any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 18:07, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Following up here to let you know that another editor was able to review this draft and this is  Done. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:36, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Delegate Margaret Peggy Murphy 1988.JPG

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Delegate Margaret Peggy Murphy 1988.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:17, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted some of your edits to Baltimore City College football. Please see WP:TMPG for the reason why I did so.

The next step is for you to copy and paste {{Db-author}} at the top of Template:City college football history-head coaches in order to request its deletion.

Feel free to respond here with any questions. I will watch this page for a while. Happy editing! – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:12, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I took care of the page for you. IF you need the text back at anytime let me know. (Though as a Poly grad, I had a bit of glee in deleting it. Losing six years in a row does that to you) RickinBaltimore (talk) 19:02, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Scherod C. Barnes (2010).jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. Hello Marylandstater! I recently created List of Maryland state historical markers and its subpages, and I figured you might be interested in helping improving the list. There's plenty of redlinks that could be expanded. The "Image" column will ideally be used for images of the things talked about by the signs, not the signs themselves. File permission problem with File:City football 032.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:City football 032.jpg, which you've attributed to Ryan Murray. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 04:41, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:1joe howard.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:1joe howard.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. HouseBlastertalk 23:47, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Custom signature fix needed

[edit]

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)

Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Click the Learn more button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
  3. Update your signature to fix the error.
  4. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Solution 3: Do nothing:

  1. In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.

If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
