Algernon Henry Blackwood (Greenwich, 1869ko martxoaren 14a - Beckenham, 1951ko abenduaren 10a) kontakizun fantastikoen idazle, kazetari eta irrati eatari ingelesa izan zen. Hainbat kritikarik beldurrezko literaturako lan hoberentzat jotzen dituzte bereak, Lord Dunsany eta Arthur Machen garaikideekin batera.[1]

Biografia

Blackwood Shooter's Hillen jaio zen (gaur egun Londresen dagoen herria, baina garai hartan Kentena zen). Bere bizitzan zehar, askotariko lanbideak egin zituen Ipar Amerikan: nekazaria Kanadan, hotel baten arduraduna, meatzaria Alaskan, erreportaria New Yorken. Ingalaterrara itzulita, beldurrezko kontakizunak idazten hasi zen, arrakasta handiz. Generoko beste idazle britainiar batzuk bezala, Arthur Machen adibidez, Londresen 1888an sortutako Golden Dawn Orden Hermetikoa erakunde sekretuarekin lotzen zaio. Isilpeko erakunde sekretu horren irakaspenek eragina izan zezaketen bere ipuinen giro magiko berezian.[2] Bere obra H. P. Lovecraften eragin nagusietako bat bezala aipatzen da; esaterako Lovecraften The Call of Cthulhu narrazio ospetsua Blackwooden aipamen batekin hasten da. Blackwood 1951ko abenduaren 10ean hil zen, arteriosklerosiak eragindako garuneko tronbosi batek jota.[3] Bere gorpua Londresko Golders Green errausketa-labean erre zuten. Errautsak bere hilobak Saanenmösera eraman zuen, Suitzako Bernan.
