I moved the history part from the People's Republic of China page and tried to make it more Simple English. I think we still need to fix parts of this. How can we say "unconditional surrender"?

Separate articles on History of China to cover everything up to Mao's death and the new regime, and Culture of China would be ideal. Statistics, demographics, industries, energy sources, and all the geography, are much more important than history in this article. We should use it as a template for articles on other major civilizations. In other words, get it right first, and then use it to do the same for India, History of India and Pakistan (inseparable really), Culture of India (Pakistan and Bangaladesh can be covered in Islamic culture). The Chinese situation is simpler, so let's try to get it right first.

It's fair to say that People's Republic of China and Republic of China are two different states with their own articles, but, they are not two different cultures historically, and they do not have two different histories. The few issues unique to each can be discussed in the articles on each, but, don't confuse a state with a culture. People on both sides of the Taiwan Strait believe in a "one China policy". Although maybe less all the time.

Likewise, Korea is one culture with two states. Almost everyone thinks they will eventually re-unify.

Taiwan is not a separate country from China. I know that Taiwan has its own democratic laws and everything but that all part of China's "One Country Two Policies" scheme. The UN refused to address Taiwan as a country. Can someone improve the article a bit so it is not that misleading? Thanks.Noelle 18:18, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't see why you cropped the page on the Chinese history. It provides a better view. Please put it back

If you want to say why the page History of China should be longer, please explain in Talk:History of China. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:39, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to China

[change source]

China is located in Asia. It has the world's biggest poppulation, 1.2 billion people. So out of evey random six people, one would be chinese. China has a extremly long histroy, going back about 5 000 years. There was many emperors back then but it was eventually over throwen by other people. China is now called "The People's Republic of China". The present president of China is Hou Zing Tao.

You can change 'unconditional surrender' to 'surrender completely'. But I think the section on martial arts especially is too complex for Simple English in terms of both vocabulary AND grammar. You need to write in simple, short sentences with only one idea per sentence. As it is, the language in this article is too complex for many non-native speakers and would be more suitable for the main Wikipedia.Cathachap 16:44, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For the third person,I don't think that Korea will unify. The best it can turn is probably what it is now — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.132.131.170 (talkcontribs)

Yeah, China has the largest population, but most of them are only Han-Chinese, the largest troop of 56 different ones. Han-Chinese has an extremely long history, later other troops merged into this family with their different cultures and languages thrown away. And rich people are Han-Chinese, they could visit other countries easily, leaving positive or negative impressions. Poor Chinese people could not afford the visa at all. So if you dislike Chinese, please make a differentiation! 119.53.110.221 (talk) 23:49, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Add revisionism request

[change source]

After 1978,China gradually transformed into a social-imperialism country, the reason and effect of this transformation is significant. I suggest adding a revisionism paragraph to discuss this A Random Maoist (talk) 16:08, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Result: Consensus for option 1: Merge PRC into China, merge ROC into Taiwan. Lights and freedom (talk) 21:59, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The question of whether to merge these articles has been open for a long time. So I think it is best to have a formal discussion about it.

@Fehufanga I think they are separate for a few reasons. First, the article on "Republic of China" can cover the entire period of its existence, which would allow it to cover the early 20th century in China, before the PRC took over. It wouldn't make sense to discuss this period on an article called "Taiwan". Second, that way "China" can focus on culture (including literature, ethnic groups, etc.), geography, and millenia of history; while "People's Republic of China" can discuss this current government in more detail. Third, Taiwan is included in the region known as China — both historically (culture, languages, history), and today (both governments say that Taiwan is part of China). Lights and freedom (talk) 08:33, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lights and freedom That makes sense, though not with the current article titles we have. An article about the ROC pre-PRC takeover should be titled "Republic of China (1912–1949)" (following enwiki here), and the article still has considerable overlaps with the Taiwan article. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 00:03, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fehufanga Yes, the way it's organized on enwiki is one way to do it. It's only my opinion that there should be a single article for the Republic of China, rather than a split between two. Lights and freedom (talk) 00:28, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Option 2. The PRC and China are basically the same but not the ROC and Taiwan – Taiwan unambiguously refers to just the island of Taiwan + a few other offshore islands like the Penghu, while the Republic of China refers to Taiwan plus Taiwan's claims to China, Mongolia and several other countries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SHB2000 (talkcontribs) 11:23, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Option 2 to have one article about the whole history of the Republic of China, and another article for the whole history of Taiwan. Lights and freedom (talk) 07:12, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Option 1 Firstly, per @Griffinofwales, we must maintain according to enWiki standards. Secondly, per @Lights and freedom, PRC is the legiminate government of China, where Taiwan is controlled by ROC, who lose control on mainland China since 1949. Two states are having different history. And thirdly, it is good to keep it's one word name as China and Taiwan respectively, as these names are famous all around the world. Splitting into two articles with their titles being it's official name would be difficult for most of the people.--DRC (User:TTP1233) (talk . e-mail . contrib) 13:35, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Merging

[change source]

It may take some discussion to decide how to merge People's Republic of China and China. How much focus on each topic do we want in the resulting article? Some could probably go into Greater China. (However, I already merged Republic of China into Taiwan. Lights and freedom (talk) 22:56, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think we still need an article on China for the material before 1949. Rathfelder (talk) 16:20, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
