A new episode of the Revisited video series has arrived online this morning – and since the latest entry in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is currently in theatres, we decided this would be a good time to look back at one of the least popular Alien movies, the 1997 release Alien: Resurrection (watch it Here). In the video embedded above, you’ll hear how this film’s odd and wacky tone managed to kill the franchise. For a while, anyway.
Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet from a screenplay written by Joss Whedon, Alien: Resurrection has the following synopsis: The saga continues 200 years after Ripley sacrificed herself for the sake of humanity. Her erstwhile employers long gone, this time it is the military that resurrects the one-woman killing machine through genetic cloning to extract the alien from within her, but during the process her DNA is fused with the queen and then the aliens escape.

Is there a more iconic duo than Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, respectively? Last year, just as the Super Bowl was gearing up to steal the spotlight, PopCorners pulled a rabbit out of the hat by roping in Cranston and Paul to bring back their unforgettable Breaking Bad personas for a commercial.

In this minute-long ad, the dynamic duo revved up their iconic meth lab, a nostalgic callback to their Breaking Bad days, with Walter White keeping a close eye on Jesse as he snacks on the popular PopCorners treats. In this playful nod to their gritty past, Cranston and Paul reunited as partners in crime—this time, to promote the immensely popular snack brand.

Brenda Leigh Johnson would be the very first to say, “Thank you, so much,” to Peacock for being the new home for all seven seasons of The Closer — beginning this Sunday, June 30, for Premium subscribers only.
The Closer, starring Kyra Sedgwick as the aforementioned Deputy Chief in charge of the LAPD’s Priority Homicide Division, originally aired on TNT each summer from June 2005 through August 2012. One day after its series finale, the offshoot Major Crimes, headed by Mary McDonnell (as Captain Sharon Raydor), premiered on TNT (and ran for six seasons of its own).

In the 80s and 90s, an interesting cycle of inspirational teacher movies was being made. You know the type – the film where a big star plays a down-and-out teacher who gets posted in some crime-ridden school, and they manage to turn things around? Often, they were based on true stories, like Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, Lean on Me and a few others. Then, there were the more fanciful, tough-guy teacher movies, like Nick Nolte’s Teachers and James Belushi’s underrated The Principal.
But of all these movies, the most badass, by far, is a little movie called The Substitute starring Tom Berenger.
In it, he plays a mercenary who goes undercover as a substitute teacher to avenge a brutal assault on his girlfriend, a crusading teacher played by Heat’s Diane Venora. While initially only planning on staying long enough to find the teens responsible, he finds himself...

Is it time for Richard Webber to hang up the stethoscope permanently?
After a bit of a hiatus, we're back to our regularly scheduled program with Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 6, and we're left to wonder if Webber may be hanging up his white coat for good.
It's been 20 years, give or take, of watching him on our screens, and he's been practicing medicine for infinitely longer.
But something has been troubling him for some time, and we may see him unraveling to the point of interfering with the job.
We know he's faced some issues with his sobriety.
He opened up to his constant sober buddy, Amelia Shepherd, about it, and he's gone back to AA meetings after feeling he has to start the process all over again after a difficult moment.
Fortunately, it doesn't appear he's set down a path of battling his alcoholism with troubling results.
However, Webber...

"You can't count it!" That's what producer Peter Safran said to Entertainment Weekly in 2023 about "The Curse of La Llorona" being part of The Conjuring Universe. Safran, who has helped to spearhead the very successful horror franchise alongside James Wan since 2013, did not leave any room for interpretation there. Yet, director Michael Chaves' successful 2019 feature directorial debut contains characters from "Conjuring" films, as well as overt references to events in those stories. Be that as it may, this movie now exists as both an unquestionable hit and a film that narratively exists in The Conjuring Universe but, for technical reasons, actually doesn't.
In the era of cinematic universes, it's an almost unprecedented situation. Why provide connective tissue if the plan isn't to connect these dots?...

Alien and Aliens are two of the most highly respected and beloved sci-fi horror films ever made… and all of the films that have followed have either been divisive in one way or another, or just flat-out poorly received. One of the least popular entries in the franchise is the 1997 installment Alien: Resurrection (watch it Here), which put some fans off with its wild and weird tone and its crazy ideas. Decades down the line, Alien: Resurrection director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is currently doing the press rounds to promote a theatrical re-release of his very popular 2001 romantic comedy Amélie, and JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols took the opportunity to ask him about the making of his Alien sequel. Here’s how it went:
Tyler Nichols: I’m also a big horror fan, so I have to ask you about your work on Alien: Resurrection. Because I still think of the underwater...

Spanning nine films in total, “The Conjuring” franchise, including “The Nun II,” is as vast as it is complex.
The story that kicked off with supernatural investigating couple Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson) has since expanded into a series of “Conjuring” movies and spinoffs, all set at different points in a timeline that begins all the way back in the 1300s. The events in the three proper “Conjuring” films actually do occur in the order they were released, but the spinoffs and prequels, including “The Nun” and the “Annabelle” films, make the timeline much more complicated.
Here’s how to watch all the “Conjuring” movies in chronological order, all the way back to the Dark Ages.
The Nun (2018): 1300s, 1952, 1971 The Nun (Warner Bros.)
While the bulk of the film about the Nun (aka Valak), who first appears in “The Conjuring 2,” is set in 1952 Romania, a...

Longtime Justified fans nearly got another blast from Raylan Givens’ storied past when watching FX’s City Primeval limited series. (Full Justified: City Primeval spoilers follow!)

But when franchise lead Timothy Olyphant got to mulling a City Primeval series with feature film director Quentin Tarantino, while on the set of Once Upon a time in Hollywood, they...

I admit that Justified: City Primeval Season 1 Episode 8 leaves me with some intense feelings.
Mostly, I feel incredibly cheated by a revival that promised to carve out a new path for Raylan Givens -- one where his sensibilities as a father would temper his quick trigger, shaping his renegade spirit into an inspiring leader.
Instead, Detroit breaks him. Then, all the ghosts of the past return. And does everything that happens in Detroit even matter at the end of the day?
Seriously. Are we meant to care about Robinson, Bryl, and Downey? Do the Detroit Pd deserve to have their resources tied up investigating Downey?
If she was Clement's mole in the department, there was Nothing in the script to even hint at a connection between the two. That's not good gotcha writing; that's bad plot planning.
Instead, I offer this interpretation.
Downey is in the book and is...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Justified: City Primeval” Episode 5, “You Good?”]
Heading into “City Primeval’s” second half, two Episode 5 conversations — neither, ostensibly, about the case at hand — provide a little something extra to chew on. The first savory chat takes place as Sweety (Vondie Curtis Hall) and Clement (Boyd Holbrook) wait for Bulldozer Burt’s (David Cross) lawncare workers to punch out for the day, so they can blackmail their first mark from the late Judge Guy’s little black book. As they sit idle, without music blasting (for once), Sweety remembers a time many years ago when he was roused from a sound slumber for the right reasons. His friend wanted him to come jam with Miles Davis! Sweety hustled over and did just that, slapping da bass until 6 a.m. “No chit chat, mother fucker just played,” Sweety says about Miles. But the jazz legend did share a few choice words with the future bartender.

It took them until Justified: City Primeval Season 1 Episode 4, but we finally got what is -- in my estimation -- a classic Elmore Leonard-esque criminal philosophy expounded with conviction and eloquence.
Toma Costia, Mags Bennett says howdy-doo, and please give Raylan a run for his guns.
With the Albanian mob making things complicated, does anyone else feel like Raylan's just about done being all calm and collected and by the book?
To be fair, he still hasn't shot anyone. And that's really the best measure of how far he's come since his stint in Harlan County.
When Agron takes off on Bryl -- more thoughts on our dear Norbert later -- Raylan's restraint when Besnik's instincts are to back up his buddy is laudable. Pre-parenthood, Raylan would've at least shot him in the leg to make sure he stayed put.
Taking a moment to admire Yuna's spunk.

[This story contains spoilers from Justified: City Primeval‘s two-episode premiere.]
From The Wonder Years and Early Edition to Justified old and new, you’ve likely seen Michael Dinner’s name on your TV screen for as long as you can remember. Dinner has been directing since the early ’80s, including eight episodes of the original Justified. But ever since he co-wrote an episode of the Elmore Leonard-inspired series in 2015, he’s done a bit more writing and even served as co-showrunner of 2017’s Electric Dreams. So, when it came time to revive Justified and original series showrunner Graham Yost was committed to an Apple TV+ deal, Dinner, along with Dave Andron, stepped up to become co-showrunner of Justified: City Primeval, which combines Leonard’s 1980 crime novel, City Primeval, with the Raylan Givens-led world of Justified.

Anyone who knows beloved crime novelist Elmore Leonard only through Justified, the 2010 TV adaptation of his work, might be confused as to why its reboot, Justified: City Primeval, moves the action from the hollers of Harlan County, Kentucky to the rust belt of Detroit, Michigan.
That confusion is understandable as Justified enjoys one of the most richly-realized settings in modern television history. Despite filming nearly the entirety of its six-season run in Southern California (the pilot was shot in Pittsburgh), FX‘s saga about an anachronistic stetson-wearing lawman was absolutely steeped in Appalachian realness. Indeed, the entire premise of the show revolved around Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) being forced to relocate back to his troubled Kentucky hometown following a questionably “justified” shooting of a crime lord in Miami.

We're a long way and a long time from Harlan County, folks. Justified: City Primeval Season 1 Episode 1 & Justified: City Primeval Season 1 Episode 2 set up our favorite U.S. Marshall for an intense new case, but it's not just the criminal who's new and different.
The fifteen years that have elapsed have mellowed Raylan Givens, and fatherhood has clearly taught him some anger management strategies that hunting criminals never drove home.
In addition, he's working a case in Detroit, so he has no connection with people and no history with the criminal he's hunting while simultaneously trying to supervise a teenage daughter who has a disturbingly poor sense of self-preservation.
The original Justified series managed to plumb the depths of Elmore Leonard's Raylan Givens literary adventures, even inspiring the writer to create a whole new book in 2012 the showrunners then incorporated into the third season.

“We dug coal together.”
Timothy Olyphant closed out Justified in 2015 with those powerful final words, an ode to his character Raylan Givens’ complicated relationship with his home Harlan County, his longtime friend-turned-enemy Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), and even himself. For those who stuck through the FX modern Western’s six seasons, it was a perfect encapsulation of the journey: from the Bennetts to the Crowes and everyone in between — the legend of Drew Thompson to a stiff drink of Pappy Van Winkle — the Justified community dug coal together.
Now, it’s time to head back to the mines.

“There are only two kinds of guys out in the street chasing bad guys at your age — ones who got passed over for ‘the big chair,’ and the ones who just love it so much they’re gonna have to be dragged off. Only question is will they be breathing when it happens.”
That observation-slash-threat comes courtesy of Raylan Givens’ latest formidable foe, Clement Mansell aka “The Oklahoma Wildman,” in the FX limited series Justified: City Primeval. But it also speaks to the fact that the steely-eyed U.S. Marshal indeed cannot seem to stop doing that thing he does so well.

[This story contains spoilers for the Black Mirror season six episode “Beyond the Sea.”]
Aaron Paul’s live-action debut on Black Mirror has been five-and-a-half years in the making.
In December 2017, Paul had a voice cameo on one of Black Mirror’s signature episodes, “USS Callister,” as series creator Charlie Brooker wanted to add another wrinkle to Paul’s fictional feud with Breaking Bad co-star Jesse Plemons. Paul, who was already a huge fan of Black Mirror, agreed to voice “Gamer691” as long as it didn’t preclude him from a future live-action role. A gentlemen’s agreement was then made, and while Paul’s Westworld commitment prevented a season five appearance on the hit Netflix anthology, Paul says he’s grateful that Brooker stayed true to his word for season six’s John Crowley-directed episode, “Beyond the Sea,” co-starring Josh Hartnett and Kate Mara.
“Once you get to know Charlie, you know that his word actually has weight to it.

The new FX limited series “Justified: City Primeval” is a fish-out-of-water story featuring a long, lanky fish in a Stetson hat. His name is Raylan Givens, and you might know him from “Justified,” the FX crime series that made itself at home in the hollers of Kentucky among white supremacists and other Southern miscreants from 2010 to 2015. Played by Timothy Olyphant with a smooth gait and seen-it-all demeanor, Deputy U.S. Marshal Givens, created by the unmatchable crime fiction writer Elmore Leonard, now finds himself in Detroit, where a maniac is sowing chaos, a dirty judge has been murdered and the rules of engagement are as wild as the West ever was.
But if Raylan is new to the criminal ways of Motor City, Leonard, who died in 2013, most certainly wasn’t. This was his home, and the setting for much of his most memorable work. He knew the crooks and the crooked cops,...

"Yours is better. It has a sight." Amazon has revealed an official trailer for Medellín, a film by French actor / director Franck Gastambide. It's available for streaming on Prime Video worldwide in June, for anyone interested in it. To save his younger brother from a dangerous cartel in Medellín, Reda (played by Ramzy Bedia) has a plan that is as simple as it is completely insane: Assemble a team and plan a raid in Colombia. But this crazy adventure will spiral out of control when he decides to kidnap the cartel leader's son in order to exchange him for his brother’s life. Sounds like the kind of wacky comedy concept that Hollywood usually comes up with, but this is from France! Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston had a reunion as their iconic Breaking Bad characters – Jesse Pinkman and his former high school chemistry teacher Walter White – for PopCorners’ Super Bowl commercial on Sunday.
The ad features TV’s favorite duo back in their trailer – more like their lab on wheels – manufacturing PopCorners snacks instead of their usual crystal meth. While Jesse is filmed freaking out over how amazing the PopCorners taste, Mr. White informs viewers that “they’re air popped, not fried,” taking credit for the great invention that has left Pinkman amazed.
Raymond Cruz also reprises his role as Tuco Salamanca, Pinkman and White’s meth distributor, who enthusiastically approves of the product and demands seven flavors to sell immediately.

Updated with game-day versions, additional commercials. Super Sunday brought Madison Avenue’s annual spending spree, which has boosted the Big Game’s Hollywood quotient noticeably in recent years.
Celebrity product pitches date back to the days of leather helmets, of course, but in the increasingly rare air of the Super Bowl they have started to overtake the left-field breakouts of the past by the likes of Puppy Monkey Baby or beer-loving frogs. With Fox’s telecast commanding a peak level of more than 7 million for 30-second spots, producers and brands again are banking on stars in a big way. Super Bowl Lvii, a contest in Arizona between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, will feature commercials starring Bradley Cooper, Adam Driver, Melissa McCarthy, Anna Faris, Ben Stiller, Brie Larson, Steve Martin, Maya Rudolph and Miles and Keleigh Teller. Streaming services — a burgeoning category — will feature plugs by Will Ferrell,...

Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston reunited for a new Super Bowl commercial, and channeled their iconic “Breaking Bad” characters for the PopCorners ad spot. The duo spoke with Et on Thursday in Arizona, ahead of Super Bowl Lvii and before their Dos Hombres x PopCorners party about bringing back Walter White and Jesse Pinkman for the minute-long commercial, directed by “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan, which sees them re-enacting scenes — with a twist — from the beloved drama.
“The truth is is that the PopCorners folks came to us and said, ‘We have an idea.’ And they pitched us with the idea. And we’re very, very protective of the show and the characters. So we listened. We basically laughed and we thought it was really good,” Cranston told Et of how the ad came to be, after he and Paul arrived to the Super Bowl party in style via private jet.

The pre-release of this weekend's pop culture-filled Super Bowl Halftime commercials continues, and the latest from Pepsi Zero Sugar is the best I've seen yet. The soda company went the celebrity guest route with not just one but two versatile actors getting in on the bit: Steve Martin and Ben Stiller each star in separate ad spots for the new and allegedly improved sugar-free soda, with a special appearance by Derek Zoolander.
The gimmick for the commercial is simple, and actually pretty self-aware for a drink that honestly probably wouldn't make the Family Feud board if the category was America's favorite sodas. We get to see Stiller and Martin act their way through specific feelings, showing how great they are at conveying joy and disappointment and even the feeling of being freezing cold. The idea is that they're such great actors that we have no way of knowing whether or...

Even Super Bowl advertisers need a little help these days.
When the snack giant Frito-Lay shows up in the commercial breaks of Super Bowl Lvii this Sunday, it will do so with some guest stars in tow. The PepsiCo-owned company enlisted actors Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and Raymond Cruz to reprise their characters Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and Tuco Salamanca from the popular series “Breaking Bad,” all in the name of selling the popped-corn snack Popcorners.
Some consumers may never have heard of this stuff, but chances are they’ll recognize the “Breaking Bad” trio.
And that, acknowledges Chris Bellinger, vice president of creative and digital at the snack maker, could present a challenge. His team is eager ”to make sure people don’t walk away saying, ‘That was an amazing ‘Breaking Bad’ commercial!’”

Breaking Bad star Raymond Cruz went deeper with Tuco Salamanca in Better Call Saul and was able to show a more human side of a character who busted skulls when crossed.
As a drug kingpin in Breaking Bad, Tuco was all violence – turned up to 11. And while he certainly didn’t hesitate to take down a couple of scam artists with his abuela’s cane, he showed a more multi-dimensional side on Better Call Saul.
“The fact that you got to really get to know Tuco through Better Call Saul where you see his progression and where he ends up, the amazing writing of the series on the development of the character and how he goes down this road,” Cruz told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “Which you actually got a more heartfelt personal connection with him and seeing on how he treats his family and how he connects with his relatives...

While the final season of Better Call Saul put Walter White and Jesse Pinkman back on the small screen, the upcoming Breaking Bad Super Bowl commercial will no doubt be yet another welcome reunion…even if it may be a farewell, too.
According to Aaron Paul, who again plays Jesse Pinkman in the upcoming Popcorners-themed Breaking Bad Super Bowl spot, the ad will likely mark the last appearance of both Pinkman and White. “I feel like this is sort of where we all kind of hang our hats, at least with the Breaking Bad universe…And what a fun way to go out.”
This is despite just how simple it was for both Cranston and Paul to slip back into their Breaking Bad personas for the Super Bowl commercial. As Paul put it, “It’s so easy to kind of zip on that skin again…It’s just like revisiting a very familiar friend.

Walt has one significant demand of Tuco before they agree to do business with him.

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are back together again… again. Only this time, instead of cooking up drugs, Walter White has cooked up a “bomb” snack food for Super Bowl Sunday. And they brought one more “Breaking Bad” alum with them.
Cranston and Paul recently reunited onscreen for the final season of AMC’s acclaimed spinoff series “Better Call Saul,” but they’re already back together again for this Super Bow spot.
Because another week is just too long to wait for the most highly anticipated commercials of the year, PopCorners released their Super Bowl spot on Monday morning, bringing fans back to Walt’s (Cranston) van. Dressed in their full gear, Jesse (Paul) tries out the latest product, and promptly starts freaking out.

It takes an event like the Super Bowl to reunite some of Hollywood’s most distinctive characters.

Motor City, here comes Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant)! Last seen fleeing Appalachia in the acclaimed drama Justified (2010-2015), the lawman extends his presence in the Elmore Leonard universe with Justified: City Primeval. The FX spinoff is based on the late crime writer’s City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. Set in Motor City, the gritty novel features local cop Ray Cruz, but in the series (premiering Summer 2023), Givens is the protagonist and Cruz (Paul Calderon) is a retired homicide detective. “Tim started banging the drum to put Raylan in this world,” reports executive producer Michael Dinner, “and that’s how this mashup started.” In Justified: City Primeval, the timeline has moved ahead 10 years and Raylan is now part-time dad to teen Willa (played by Olyphant’s real-life daughter Vivian). In Detroit, he runs into Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook), “one of Elmore’s great antagonists,” Dinner says.

"I feel like everybody knew him except me." HBO has unveiled an official trailer for an indie film titled My Dead Dad, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Fabio Frey. It's co-written and produced by Pedro Correa, who also stars in it as the main character. It premiered at the 2021 Woodstock Film Festival last year, and screened at numerous other fests including Austin, Mill Valley, and Filmocracy Fest where it won the Audience Award. A burnout discovers his estranged father has died, leaving him the responsibility of managing an apartment complex. With hopes of cutting ties, he's forced to grow up, learning about the dad he never knew through the eclectic tenants. Starring Pedro Correa with Raymond Cruz, Courtney Dietz, Simon Rex, Booboo Stewart, Steven Bauer, Chris Pontius, Nicholas Duvernay, and Nate Jackson. This would probably be a bit better if it had more humor in it, as this trailer seems so depressing.

The last ride of Jimmy McGill is almost upon us. Better Call Saul season 6 will be the show’s last season and it will once and for all showcase the final transition of loveable up-and-coming lawyer Jimmy McGill into scummy criminal (emphasis on criminal) lawyer Saul Goodman. Ever since Better Call Saul premiered on AMC in 2015, fans of the Breaking Bad spinoff have been clamoring for a cameo appearance from the original show’s two main characters, Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). The actors themselves have been asked about it seemingly the entire duration of the prequel series’ run.
