Tuticorin: The home of retired teachers Chithirai Selvin (79) and his wife was burgled in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu, which is 604 kms away from Chennai, leaving them Rs 60,000 poorer along with gold and silver valuables. The couple, who were away visiting their son in Chennai since June 17, had hired a maid to care for their residence.
Upon their return on Tuesday evening, the maid discovered signs of a break-in and immediately alerted the police. Police arrived to investigate, confirming the theft of Rs 60,000 in cash, two pairs of gold earrings, and silver anklets. What added a twist to the burglary was a note left behind by the intruder, written in Tamil on an envelope in green ink, as per a TOI report. The note apologised for the theft, explaining that the money was urgently needed for medical treatment of a family member, and promised to return the stolen items within a month. "Forgive me. I will return it in one month. Someone is sick in my house." said the note.
In Chennai, neighborhoods like Avadi, Redhills, and Sholinganallur will face power cuts on July 4 from 9 am to 2 pm due to planned maintenance. These temporary interruptions are necessary for maintenance work. If the tasks finish on time, electricity will be back before 2 pm. People should prepare for this and arrange their plans accordingly.
Several areas in Chennai, including Avadi, Redhills, Sholinganallur, Tambaram, Pallavaram, Ambattur, Guindy, Thiruvanmiyur, Maduravoyal, T. Nagar, and Vyasarpadi, will experience power outages on July 4 from 9 am to 2 pm due to scheduled maintenance work. This maintenance is essential for the electricity supply infrastructure. Residents are advised to plan accordingly for the temporary interruption and expect power to be restored before 2 pm if the maintenance concludes on schedule.
