Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday conferred Russia's highest civilian honour, 'Order of St Andrew the Apostle', on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for exceptional services in promoting bilateral ties between the two countries. It was announced back in 2019. Notably, PM Modi is on two-day visit to Russia.
"Honoured to receive the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. I dedicate it to the people of India," PM Modi said in a post on X after receiving the award at a ceremony in Moscow.
Established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great in honour of Saint Andrew, the first apostle of Jesus and patron saint of Russia, the Order of St Andrew the Apostle is the highest state decoration of Russia.

Earlier in the day, during the bilateral talks with the Prime Minister, Putin praised India's efforts to find ways to resolve Ukraine crisis as he held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. His remark came as PM Modi reiterated that India favours peace and "war is not the solution" in a bold message as innocent people continue to lose their lives amid the ongoing strikes in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday arrived in Moscow for a two-day visit to Russia. He was by Denis Manturov, Russia's first Deputy Prime Minister, at the airport.
In the night, Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted a private dinner for PM Modi. The Prime Minister was warmly received by Putin at the venue. Both leaders shared a warm hug.
Notably, it is PM Modi's first trip to Russia in nearly five years. He last visited the friendly nation in 2019. At that time he attended an economic conclave in the Far East city of Vladivostok.
