  • Significant Construction Milestones: Completed 190 km of viaduct, 321 km of pier work, the first 350 m mountain tunnel, and multiple steel bridges and river bridges along the corridor.
  • Progress on Major Structures: Work has commenced on India’s first undersea rail tunnel and the foundation work for all eight bullet train stations in Gujarat is completed, with similar progress for the Mumbai station in Maharashtra.
  • Mumbai/Ahmedabad: In a significant update, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) overseeing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has announced major milestones achieved across Gujarat and Maharashtra.
As of the latest report, all civil contracts for the ambitious project have been awarded in both states. Additionally, contracts for depot and electrical works have also been finalised, marking substantial progress in the infrastructure development phase.
The project, aimed at revolutionising rail travel in India, has seen significant construction milestones. Currently, 190 km of viaduct and 321 km of pier work have been completed. Furthermore, land acquisition processes across Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra have been successfully concluded, facilitating smooth project execution.
Key engineering feats include the completion of India's first 350-metre mountain tunnel near Zaroli Village in Valsad, Gujarat. Moreover, steel bridges spanning 70 metres, 100 metres, and 130 metres have been completed in Surat, Anand, and Vadodara, respectively, underscoring the project's engineering prowess.
Significant progress has been made on river bridges as well, with construction completed on eight out of the 24 planned river bridges. Notably, work on important rivers like Narmada, Tapti, Mahi, and Sabarmati is currently underway.
The project's most groundbreaking aspect, the construction of India's first seven-kilometre undersea rail tunnel as part of a 21 km tunnel between BKC and Shilphata in Maharashtra, has commenced. Excavation works for the Mumbai Bullet Train station and associated underground/undersea tunnel shafts are actively progressing.
Meanwhile, works have also commenced on the Mumbai Bullet Train station in Maharashtra. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has reaffirmed that the bullet train project is on track for completion by 2026, with services expected to commence initially between Surat and Bilimora.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, initiated in November 2021, initially encountered challenges related to land acquisition. However, steady progress has been made since its launch, following its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Ahmedabad on September 14, 2017.
NHSRCL, established under the Companies Act, 2013, operates as a 'Special Purpose Vehicle' with equity participation from the Central Government, Ministry of Railways, and the Governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
