Mumbai: The victory parade of the T20 champion Indian cricket team began after a two hour delay as crowd gathered in South Mumbai eager and anxious to get a glimpse of the bus parade. According to the itinerary shared by the officials, the two-hour open bus parade started from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point till the Wankhede Stadium. It started little after 7:30 pm in the evening due to the crowd along the city's Marine drive.
Amidst the seemingly chaotic scenes emerging from Mumbai roads, the police hailed the discipline of the crowd and appreciated the fact that they made space for security personnel and ambulance and were respectful of the siren.
After returning from Barbados early morning, the Indian team attended a breakfast meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their plane left for Mumbai at around 3:42 pm, PTI reported.
The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was open for fans and was filled within minutes to celebrate the team's victory last Saturday.
The team traversed through the city to reach the southern tip where the Wankhede stadium is located.
Their aircraft, a Vistara flight, received the famous ‘Water Salute’ after arriving at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s Terminal 2.
The players were met with an ocean of fans and media eagerly awaiting the arrival of the team.
Thousand others waited outside the gates of Wankhede stadium, which were closed around 5:00pm.
Fans rushed in all directions, with several pairs of footwear and debris being left behind.
Wankhede became charged up chants of ‘Sachin… Sachin’ followed by ‘Mumbaicha Raja, Rohit Sharma!’ and ‘India… India’, PTI reported.
