Back in August, a D23 display gave us a first glimpse of the pirate villains who will be introduced in Lucasfilm's next Disney+ Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew.
We larned that Vane - The Pirate King Gorian Shard's Nikto right-hand man from season 3 of The Mandalorian - will lead this motley bunch, and he'll be joined by a Shistavanen, a Gran and a formidable looking droid with a peg-leg.
Now, EW has revealed an official look at these pirates, as well as their character names and which actors will be playing them.
The crew will consist of: Vane (Marti Matulis), Gunter (Jaleel White), Brutus, Pax (performance artist: Mike Estes), and Chaelt (Dale Soules).
Check out the new image at the link below, along with another look at Jude Law as the mysterious Jod Na Nawood, who co-creator Christopher Fored describes as a "whole new kind of Jedi."

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Writer Teases Jude Law's Character as a 'New Kind of Jedi' - Main Image
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew co-creator Christopher Ford recently teased that the upcoming series will introduce a "new kind of Jedi" through Jude Law's character.
The highly-anticipated Star Wars series will focus on a group of young characters and a mysterious Force-user named Jod Na Nawood (played by Oscar nominee Jude Law) in an adventure set in the MandoVerse timeline.
As we're heading to its premiere before the end of the year, fans have been wondering how Law's Force-user character will play out in the series and whether he has connections with the other well-known Jedi.

With The Acolyte having come and gone (not to mention getting cancelled), the stage is set for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the next live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. Entertainment Weekly has dropped a couple of new images from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which includes a look at Jaleel White (Urkel!) as a space pirate!
Jaleel White plays Gunter, the cyborg-looking character seen above. He’s flanked by Vane (Marti Matulis), who you might recognize from The Mandalorian, as well as Brutus (voiced by Fred Taatasciorce and played by Stephen Oyoung), Pax (Mike Estes), and Chaelt (Dale Soules). “Those are pirates!“ Skeleton Crew co-creator Christopher Ford confirmed to EW. “Space pirates.“
While we’ve seen pirates in Star Wars before, it sounds as though they will be more heavily featured in Skeleton Crew. “With the era we’re in, we’re kind of getting to play with that lawless thing,...

It's been an interesting time in the galaxy far, far away these past few years. While Star Wars movies have stalled out — at least until The Mandalorian & Grogu hits the big screen in 2025 — there have been plenty of television shows to tide us over. Some of those have been transcendent, like Andor. Others have failed to capture a wide enough audience to continue and been canceled, like The Acolyte. You never quite know how new Star Wars shows will go over until they're out.
The next show coming down the pike is Skeleton Crew, and after hearing co-creator Jon Watts' latest comments about it, I'm officially excited. Skeleton Crew is about a group of four children who discover a secret, and then have to go on a galaxy-spanning journey with a mysterious man named Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) in order to get home. They'll no doubt face plenty of obstacles along the way.

Star Wars fans are feeling a letdown from The Acolyte, which was canceled after one season after a mixed reaction. But the franchise is going ahead with Skeleton Crew, a new series that promises a more kid-oriented view of the Star Wars universe.
The series, taking place in the same time frame as other Star Wars shows like The Mandalorian, focuses on a quartet of children who are somehow rocketed off their home planet and have to find a way home. They discover an unlikely mentor in Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law), who has a mysterious past.

Skeleton Crew is the next entry in the ever-expanding Star Wars franchise, which is set to hit our screens soon. Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the series stars Jude Law alongside a cast of young actors. It revolves around a group of children who find their way home after getting lost in the galaxy far, far away, aided by Law’s mysterious Force user.

During a recent interview, the show’s creators broke down some of the elements we will see in the upcoming children-centric series. Skeleton Crew is expected to take place around the same time as The Mandalorian and other post-Return of the Jedi streaming shows. As a result, it shouldn’t surprise the fans to see one element from The Mandalorian season 3 making a comeback, and here is everything you need to know about it.

Exclusive: Jon Watts, his production company Freshman Year and producer Dianne McGunigle have been staked to a first-look feature deal with Walt Disney Studios. Under the deal, Watts will direct feature-length projects for Disney live action and 20th Century Studios with the option to produce.
Watts came from the low budget well-received Sundance indie film Cop Car to be chosen to join Tom Holland and Zendaya in the third iteration of the Spider-Man franchise. Some $4 billion in gross later spread over three films, Watts stepped out and wrote, directed and produced Wolfs, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, for Apple. That film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, gets a limited theatrical release before bowing September 27 on Apple TV+. Watts has made a deal for a sequel of the slick thriller about two competitive shadowy guys who quietly fix messes that powerful people get into.

Lucasfilm is reportedly changing its release strategy for the Star Wars live-action shows on Disney+.

With the recent cancellation of The Acolyte and the lack of updates on other Star Wars live-action shows, fans have been wondering whether this is a sign that Lucasfilm is slowing down on their development for that type of project.

Jon Watts Explains Why He is Not Returning to Direct Spider-Man 4 - Main Image
Jon Watts recently opened up about his decision to not return to direct the highly-anticipated Marvel/Sony's Spider-Man 4.
After helming the "Home" trilogy of Spider-Man films in the MCU, the filmmaker opted not to return for the next installment to focus on other projects such as the upcoming series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
Marvel Studios and Sony are still looking for a new filmmaker who will take over the project as the development continues and fans are anticipating the details on what they can expect for Spider-Man's next rodeo in the MCU.

Jon Watts cut his teeth on indie movies like Clown and Cop Car, but his big break came when Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures tapped him to helm 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.
He'd later return for Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), with the latter presenting more than its fair share of challenges thanks to the pandemic. Still, the threequel was a massive hit and Watts was announced as the director of The Fantastic Four, only to walk away from the project months later.
Now, the untitled Spider-Man 4 - which is expected to be released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars - finds itself without a director because Watts will not return to helm the wall-crawler's next adventure.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker broke his silence on moving on from the MCU by admitting he's all too aware that following Spider-Man: No Way Home will be near impossible.

The other week, we learned that Disney had canceled its newest Star Wars show The Acolyte, and this just barely a month after the first season wrapped up with lots of plot threads left dangling. Star Lee Jung-jae (Jedi Master Sol) said he was surprised by the cancelation, but Amandla Stenberg — who played the duel role of Osha and her twin sister Mae — wasn't as thrown.
"I'm gonna be transparent and say it's not a huge shock for me [that the show was canceled]," Sternberg said in an Instagram story. "For those who aren't aware, there has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was announced, when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it. That’s when we started experiencing a rampage of hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred, and hateful language towards us. This really affected me when I first got the job...

Agatha All Along is fast approaching and the runtimes for the first four episodes of the WandaVision follow-up have been revealed today.
All roughly around the 40-minute mark, they're what we've come to expect from MCU TV shows on Disney+ and about right for a 9-episode series. The first two instalments will drop together on September 18 with the following seven being released weekly.
That means the finale should drop on November 6; the next major original Disney+ series after that will be Star Wars: Skeleton Crew on December 3.
"We can say that the coven is strong," lead star Kathryn Hahn said earlier this summer. "We can say that it is hilarious, and deep. And I was moved to work with all these people every day. It was a gratuitous dream that it happened to be this group to go through that together."
Hahn also credited showrunner and director Jac Schaeffer for ensuring there was "minimal CGI.

The mixed critical response to The Acolyte wasn’t the deciding factor in its cancellation claims a new report. Instead, spiralling viewing numbers (and a lack of Keanu Reeves) were the ultimate factor.
When The Acolyte completed its first season earlier this year on Disney+, the critical response was very loud and very divided. Sadly, that’s not particularly novel for a Star Wars release these days but chatter regarding the show and its various creative choices was pretty polarising, even for one of fandom’s most fractured fanbases.
Earlier this month we covered the report that The Acolyte wouldn’t be getting renewed for season 2, and whilst the loud debates and fierce criticisms of the show may have hit the headlines, they apparently weren’t a factor in the series’ cancellation. Bryce Dallas Howard is not just a talented actress but an exceptionally gifted director as well. Apart from her many roles in diverse genres, the director-actor is among the lucky few who have dabbled with the Star Wars franchise and given more than a handful of memorable episodes. Now she will be going even further into the space opera franchise since she is one of the many talented directors working on Skeleton Crew.

The other week, Disney canceled The Acolyte, its latest Star Wars TV show, not very long after the first season ended with many storylines left unresolved. And unresolved they will remain forever. Let's share a moment of silence for the departed. No talking; I'll know.
The Acolyte's cancelation was surprising, since Disney usually doesn't put high-profile shows out to pasture quite this quickly. Then again, ratings were middling and the show was bizarrely expensive to make. I suspect that's the main reason why Disney pulled the plug.
And then there's the fact that the show received a lot of backlash, both for silly racist reasons and because a bunch of people, including some of us here at WiC, thought the show was just sorta lukewarm and meh. Star Lee Jung-jae, who played the Jedi Master Sol, didn't see the cancelation coming. "I was quite surprised personally," he told Entertainment Weekly.

It was a few days ago the news broke that Disney+'s latest Star Wars TV series, The Acolyte, has been cancelled after just one season. Some celebrated the news and others were quick to express disappointment over what they felt was a knee-jerk reaction to negativity created by review-bombing, for example.
As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, a Change.org petition asking for Disney and Lucasfilm to renew The Acolyte has reached over 37,200 signatures and is next aiming for 50,000.
The same day that launched, a group of Star Wars fans rallied together and decided to launch a petition named "Don't renew The Acolyte." Based on what we've seen across social media, it seems the goal was to beat "Renew The Acolyte" and prove cancelling it was the right decision; however, as of now, it sits at a mere 5,222 signatures (bear in mind it launched within hours of its...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “The Acolyte,” which is now streaming on Disney+.
Lee Jung-jae is “quite surprised” the Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte” is ending after its first season despite showrunner Leslye Headland’s intention for the show to continue. The first season finale left several plot threads dangling for a potential Season 2, including the surprise appearance of Yoda.
“To hear the news, I was quite surprised personally as well,” Lee, who played Master Sol in “The Acolyte,” said to Entertainment Weekly.
In one of the show’s biggest twists, Sol is Force-choked to death by his former Padawan Osha (Amandla Stenberg). Lee was unlikely to return for “The Acolyte” Season 2 for this reason, although he certainly could’ve come back as a Force ghost or in a flashback, considering the first season of the show jumped around in time. Carrie Ann-Moss’ Jedi character was killed in the first episode,...

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise, spanning 8 episodes. The series received mostly negative reviews, criticized for allegedly pushing a woke narrative and for its overall low quality.
Nearly every aspect of the show faced backlash, including the story, writing, pacing, acting, costumes, and runtime. The only highlight was the lightsaber combat, but even those brief moments of action weren’t enough to keep fans engaged. After steadily losing viewers week after week, the show was canceled a few days ago.
This wasn’t entirely unexpected; a couple of weeks ago, we outlined exactly why the show wouldn’t see a second season. The studio can afford to “waste” money on a show with low viewership if it garners good reviews. However, ‘The Acolyte’ only squandered money—and a significant amount, considering it’s one of the most expensive Star Wars shows ever produced.

Those few minutes of action however were not enough to capture the attention of fans, and after losing viewers week after week, the show was cancelled a few days ago.

The Star Wars universe is experiencing a bit of a low point, especially after the failure of The Acolyte. The space opera saga was launched back in 1977 and primarily focused on the Skywalker family for most of its mainline films. However, with the advent of streaming, the franchise branched into more diverse stories.

Despite taking fans to an all-new era, The Acolyte was heavily criticized for its storyline and overall pacing issues. Moreover, the series was canceled after just one season, primarily because of low viewership and negative online reactions. As a result, Star Wars fans are debating the kind of stories they hope to see in the franchise but fear more original stories are unlikely.

George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise is a cornerstone of modern science fiction. What began as a relatively ambitious space opera has grown into one of the most lucrative and beloved franchises in history. Spanning several decades, Star Wars has captivated multiple generations and remains one of the most iconic fictional universes ever created.
However, like many long-running franchises, Star Wars has faced increasing challenges in recent years. Criticism has grown, and newer projects haven’t been as universally cherished as those from earlier decades. While changes are happening, they don’t seem to be steering the franchise in a positive direction.
With The Acolyte recently canceled and Skeleton Crew already mired in controversy months before its premiere, the future of Star Wars television projects seems uncertain. An industry insider has now shared a troubling rumor about what lies ahead for the franchise.

George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise is a pillar of modern science fiction. What started out as a relatively ambitious space opera project became one of the most lucrative and popular franchises in history. Being present for several decades now, Star Wars has raised multiple generations of fans and it still remains one of the best fictional universes ever created.
But, just like many other franchises in recent years, the Star Wars franchise has been experiencing problems. The critics are more numerous and the projects aren’t as beloved as they were decades ago. And while things are definitely changing, it doesn’t seem they’re changing for the better as far as the Star Wars franchise is concerned.

Disney’s Lost Alien Makes a Comeback in New Star Wars Series - Main Image
A long-forgotten Star Wars alien is featured in the recently released trailer for the MandoVerse spinoff series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which should resonate with diehard fans of the franchise.
Since Captain Eo has been absent for almost a decade, many fans of the younger generation are completely unaware of the Michael Jackson role in the film, which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by George Lucas.
It was an early example of a 4D short film when it was initially shown.
Captain Eo's sidekick, Fuzzball, is seen in a cage in the trailer; although the purpose of this figure is unclear, it does guarantee his reappearance in the next series.
Who Are Captain Eo and Fuzzball?

Ever since Disney+ started putting out the Star Wars shows, fans of the franchise have become divided in the direction and the narrative choices that the shows made. Except for the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, Star Wars fans have not wholly enjoyed any other shows and The Acolyte has become the latest victim.

The show looked promising in its initial episodes, but it fell apart towards the end, receiving scathing reviews. With the series now canceled, some fans are questioning the decision and how it was never given the chance to grow and find its footing. The days of will they or won't they renew the latest Disney Plus Star Wars show The Acolyte are over. The decision has been made; The Acolyte will not be renewed for season 2, leaving the now series finale on several heavy cliffhangers and dozens of unanswered questions.
It's no secret that The Acolyte has been the center of a lot of drama, to put it lightly. While some enjoyed the latest expansion of the Star Wars Universe, others despised it.
The attempts at creating a new and interesting story surrounding the mysterious deaths of several Jedi and leading to new Force discoveries as well as unexpected coverups, resulted in a lot of retcons in the already established, deep-rooted Star Wars lore. Though critics seemed optimistic, Rotten Tomatoes scores also reveal how audiences responded, which probably wasn't what Disney was expecting.

There will be no second season for Star Wars series The Acolyte, as it’s cancelled following a less than stellar reception to its launch.
By now you probably don’t need us to tell you that Disney’s handling of Star Wars continues to lurch from crisis to disaster. While the House of Mouse’s stewardship of the decades-long franchise has offered up the occasional win such as Andor or Rogue One, most of its films and TV shows have met with a mixed reception at best, with the feedback sometimes being decidedly worse.
Considering that the Star Wars series spent the first three or four decades of its existence primarily as a film series, we haven’t seen a movie emerge from Lucasfilm in almost five years now. The Mandalorian & Grogu is slated to arrive in the summer of 2026, although given that those characters spawned on the small screen,...

Disney+ has made the decision to cancel Star Wars spinoff series The Acolyte after just one season.
The series was created by self-proclaimed Star Wars superfan Leslye Headland, but even those credentials couldn’t save the show from cancellation.
The Acolyte was met with mixed reviews from the very first episode, though some fans liked the grey areas that Headland explored through her characters. However, other Star Wars fans thought it went against the typical good and evil narrative and, even more, they weren’t happy with the deepening of the force mythology.
Along with true fans of the franchise being torn over if they enjoyed it or not, the show was also review bombed. This practice is typically used when projects showcase people of color and/or LGBTQ+ characters as a way to make them fail. It’s a hateful practice to say the least.

“The Acolyte” has been canceled at Disney+ after just one season, according to media reports.
The news that the Amandla Stenberg-led series won’t return for more stories in a galaxy far, far away comes a little more than a month after the end of Season 1. The show took place in The High Republic era around a hundred years before the prequel trilogy of films.
Leslye Headland helmed the latest series set in the “Star Wars” universe. Initially, things seemed to be smooth sailing for the new show. The premiere episode of “The Acolyte” reached 11.1 million views within its first five days of streaming on Disney+, earning its place as the streamer’s most-watched series premiere in 2024.
Eventually, so-so reviews and fan criticism slowed the freshman show’s momentum. Still, the news comes as a bit of a shock as Season 1 concluded with a number of cliffhangers teasing a possible second season.

“The Acolyte” will not return for Season 2.
Lucasfilm has elected not to continue with the “Star Wars” Disney+ series following its first season, which depicted the rise of the Sith roughly 100 years before the events of “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”
The news comes at once as a shock, given how much of the Season 1 finale ended on a cliffhanger and teased several plotlines for a Season 2, and not much of a surprise, given the wildly opposing reception from fans and the less-than-robust viewership that appeared to drop off after the series premiere in June.
Creator Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”), an avowed “Star Wars” super fan, set out to create the first “Star Wars” story set outside of the core timeline in the franchise that stretches from “The Phantom Menace” to “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” The show followed twins Osha and Mae, both played by Amandla Stenberg, who...

Boba Fett has been a popular Star Wars character for decades, ever since he first appeared in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back.* Once Disney bought the rights to Star Wars and started making TV shows, it seemed only natural to give him a series. Sure, he was swallowed by the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi, but we can write around that.
But when The Book of Boba Fett arrived on Disney+ a couple years back, reception was muted. Boba Fett, played by Temuera Morrison, wasn't the masked, gunslinging bounty hunter of mystery fans remembered but a community leader trying to clean up Jabba the Hutt's old crime empire. Plus, a big chunk of his series was basically season 2.5 of The Mandalorian, another Star Wars series; Boba Fett barely appears in the best episodes of his own show.

At this point, I’m reconsidering my subscription.

At this year’s D23, Disney’s “ultimate fan event” held near Disneyland every two years, the company that leads Hollywood in creating world-class entertainment from beloved characters and time-tested stories wasn’t on its usual solid footing.
While the presentations featuring Disney luminaries from Pixar’s Pete Docter to Avatar’s James Cameron were impressive, there was also a keen sensation of déjà-vu. It was like eating at the Cheesecake Factory – there’s a giant, phonebook-sized menu, but everything still ends up tasting the same.
D23 was chock-full of announcements that signaled a doubling down on tested IP (intellectual property). At the convention, everything old was new again… and again… and again.
The presentation suggested that Disney is clearly on the back foot and retreating to what it knows best. This year, “Inside Out 2” broke what some considered a slump for Pixar, earning $1.59 billion; so did “Deadpool & Wolverine” for Marvel Studios,...

The Star Wars universe is filled with several unique and interesting alien species that populate the galaxy far, far away. The franchise’s original trilogy primarily revolved around the conflict between the Empire and the Rebels, with the former being a fascist group dominating the galaxy for their selfish gain.
The Empire was the primary antagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy (Credit: The Empire Strikes Back).
Despite being the primary antagonistic force of the original trilogy and several other eras of the film series, the Empire’s actions were somewhat whitewashed in the Expanded Universe‘s New Jedi Order novels. As per the novels, the Empire presumably seized control of the galaxy to protect it from a Force-immune species. However, fans don’t accept this logic, and here is what they have to say.

Osgood Perkins is riding high after the box office success of "Longlegs," the hit horror movie that featured Nicolas Cage going bonkers as a Satanic serial killer. "Longlegs" was Perkins' biggest hit, and now he's following it up with his biggest movie so far, at least in terms of budget. That film is "The Monkey," based on the Stephen King short story of the same name. Sooner or later, it would appear almost every filmmaker adapts a Stephen King story. They have not always been winners, but when they work, they really work. And hopes are high given that the latest, The Monkey (which is drawn from the short horror story featured in King's 1985 collection Skeleton Crew) comes via Osgood Perkins, whose Longlegs was creepily effective and has seen big success at the box office. Check out a very brief teaser for the film, which stars Theo James:
With James Wan – no stranger to horror himself — as a producer, The Monkey has the following official synopsis: "When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again,...
