Jan Delvo is the loyal director-playwright of an amateur theatre group. Just when he is about to present his latest piece of writing, chairman Jos Vanbeneden announces that celebrity Stanny Krets has shown interest to coach the next season.
Jan is downgraded to co-director and gets another cold shower when Stanny rejects his script in favor of a classic play. The new man in charge surprises the steady group even more by organizing an open audition.
Stanny is joining the group for its annual bonding weekend in the Ardennes. He soon criticizes Jan's traditional program and suggests some adventurous alternatives. While maintaining the fun at night, nobody notices that Jan is missing.
The rehearsals for Antigone take off. Stanny immediately makes clear that he is the only one in charge, in spite of Jan. In between their busy schedule, the group attends the funeral of Nora's sister.
Stanny is not satisfied by the group's progression and asks everyone to put more effort into the preparation. Jan, who gets more and more annoyed by Stanny, has a bad day at work and ultimately gets into a heavy fight with his wife Els.
Jan's marriage is over and he is fired at work. When all his frustration drives him into physically attacking Stanny, even his theatre friends turn their back on him. Meanwhile everyone is nervous for the play's premiere.
