We’re halfway through September, and while “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has been the big winner of the month so far, we have a new potential fall blockbuster this weekend. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Paramount Pictures has done quite well with Hasbro’s flagship Transformers toy line, to the tune of $5.3 billion worldwide, mostly thanks to the five movies directed by Michael Bay. Now, they’re returning to the animated realm that kicked the whole thing off in the ’80s with “Transformers One,” a prequel movie that explores the origins of the Autobots and Decepticons with Oscar-winning filmmaker Josh Cooley (“Toy Story 4”).
For this one, the filmmakers have put together a really impressive voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Jon Hamm, Keegan-Michael Key and Laurence Fishburne. For decades, Hollywood has had a habit of revisiting classic films. While it has often led to mixed results, that has not stopped studios and directors from trying their hand at different remakes. However, not all of them have gone according to plan. Most recently, it was revealed that the Independence Day director, Roland Emmerich, would be turning a legendary film into a television series for the world to see.

However, there is something about this rumored Emmerich remake that has put fans particularly on edge. And it might have something to do with the 68-year-old’s last failed project, Moonfall.

Say what you will about big movies bypassing the theatrical experience, but this week's most-watched Netflix titles make one thing clear: star power still matters, even on streaming. Case in point: "The Union," a new Netflix Original movie starring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg that's been climbing the viewership charts since its release last week, according to streaming chart data site FlixPatrol.
Action rom-com "The Union" is currently beating away the rest of the competition on Netflix's top 10 most-watched list, which as of publication time is mostly made up of family films like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," "Migration," and "Trolls Band Together." Kids who demand a dozen rewatches of their animated favorites clearly have nothing on grown-ups who have been itching to see Berry back in action for the first time in a few years, though.

Dean Devlin is the credited director of the much-loved Geostorm, but says it’s not his film – yet he’d do his own cut, and possibly Geostorm 2.
I think I’ve managed to hide it well over the years, but I bloody love 2017’s Geostorm, the kind of goofy, muddled, deliciously enjoyable mad space film that we don’t seem to get anymore. In part because Geostorm cost an enormous amount of money, and didn’t make it back. See also: Roland Emmerich’s Moonfall, an intended franchise-starter, that also doubled up as a franchise-stopped.
The credited director of Geostorm, starring Gerard Butler, is Dean Devlin, but he’s not the person who finished the movie. Instead, the film was overhauled in post-production, and Danny Cannon came in to do extensive and really quite easy to spot reshoots.
Dean Devlin is now doing promotional work for his latest project, the TV series The Ark.

Where are all my horror fans? Netflix recently added 10 horror films to its platform on the first of August. While I recommend checking out each new release, the one that should be at the top of your watchlist is the 2024 supernatural horror film Tarot. This movie is criminally underrated, in my opinion, when it really deserves all the love and attention.
Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg (The Expendables 4) wrote and directed Tarot, making it their feature film directorial debuts. Like most movies nowadays, Tarot is based on another piece of work. It's based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope. Although panned by critics, the horror flick still managed to be a box-office success, grossing $49 million worldwide against a budget of $8 million.
Here's how I see it. It's okay to read critic reviews but don't let what someone else has said and their opinions deter you from watching a movie. Who knows,...

Every streamer gets the “Game of Thrones” copycat it deserves. HBO, the original house of the dragons, can lay claim to an official prequel series that’s slavishly devoted to its predecessor. Prime Video, which would be the Scrooge McDuck of streaming if not for Apple TV+, can spend all of McBezos’ money rebooting “The Lord of the Rings,” yet still end up with a naggingly laborious “Rings of Power.” Netflix, always happier to buy talent than develop good ideas, hired “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to turn a “3 Body Problem” into a three-season snooze (replete with problems that plagued their last few seasons in Westeros).
There are others — some, even, quite successful — but let’s steer our dragons toward the latest attempt: Peacock’s “Those About to Die” leans on epic political machinations, brutal violence, and cold, calculating characters to sell its saturated vision of...

Set at the height of the Roman Empire, Those About To Die is historical drama series from director Roland Emmerich. Created by Robert Rodat, and inspired by the nonfiction book of the same name by Daniel P. Mannix, the series will immerse viewers into the spectacular, complex, and corrupt world of chariot racing and gladiatorial fights in ancient Rome.
The cast includes multi-award winning cinema legend Sir Anthony Hopkins as Emperor Vespasian, Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) as Tenax, Tom Hughes as Titus Flavianus, Sara Martins as Cala, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Game of Thrones) as Viggo, Jojo Macari (Sex Education) as Domitian, Gabriella Pession (Crossing Lines) as Antonia, Dimitri Leonidas as Scorpus, Emilio Sakraya as Xenon, Moe Hashim Kwame, Rupert Penry Jones (Whitechapel) as Marsus.
HeyUGuys chatted to the cast about their experience working on the hotly anticipated series on set in Italy and about how much they all knew about that particular era.

In most promos for Peacock’s new 10-part drama Those About to Die, Anthony Hopkins gazes out like a gnarled marble bust brought partially to life. Even the commercials that acknowledge that the series is perhaps a bit more of an ensemble piece feature the multiple Oscar winner in a badly photoshopped human pyramid, the recognizable pinnacle atop a promotional Eye of Providence.
It is more a service than a spoiler to decry this blatant bait-and-switch. While there may or may not be other reasons to watch Those About to Die, I can clarify: For a small number of episodes, Hopkins is perhaps the 10th or 12th most important part of the ensemble and for the rest of the series he doesn’t even rise to that level.
There is surely a story of some sort that explains or justifies how Hopkins came to be involved in the first place.

We’re midway through the month of July with only a few more weeks to the summer, and it’s time to get into the next potential mega-blockbuster, “Twisters.” Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Summer blockbusters have existed for as long as Steven Spielberg has been making movies, but it was only in the mid-’90s when studios realized that they could create movies considered “event viewing” that moviegoers would want to rush out to see opening weekend. The Jan De Bont-directed “Twister,” co-written by Michael Crichton (and actually executive produced by Spielberg through his Amblin company), was one of these back in 1996. Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, as well as an ensemble cast that included Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cary Elwes, and even future filmmaker, Todd Field, it opened with $41 million in its early May 1996 release, which was good for that time. The summer box office has rebounded in recent weeks thanks to the blockbuster success of animated movies like "Despicable Me 4" and Pixar's "Inside Out 2," which is already one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. We also had a blockbuster horror breakout in the form of "A Quiet Place: Day One." But has the time come for an old-school blockbuster to become a theatrical hit? If the early numbers are any indication, it appears as though "Twisters" will indeed keep the hot streak alive as the disaster flick figures to get off to a promising start.
"Twisters" is currently eyeing an opening weekend between $40 and $55 million domestically when it arrives next weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter. That said, tracking from other outlets suggests that is a modest number even on the high end. Box Office Theory has the film taking in anywhere between $71 and $83 million in its debut.

A Hulu drama series featuring Kim Kardashian has lined up some A-list talent to star opposite the reality TV mogul.
Halle Berry and Glenn Close have joined the cast of All’s Fair, a legal drama from megaproducer Ryan Murphy and 20th Television. The pair will also be executive producers alongside Murphy and Kardashian.
Per usual with Murphy’s shows, details about the roles Berry and Close will play are being kept quiet for now. All’s Fair is described as a glossy and sexy procedural in which Kardashian — who worked with Murphy on the most recent season of American Horror Story — plays a top divorce attorney at an all-woman L.A. law firm.
Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans) and Joe Baken (ABC’s upcoming, Murphy-produced Dr. Odyssey) created the series. They executive produce with stars Kardashian, Close and Berry; writers Jamie Pachino, Laura Greene and Richard Levine; and Kris Jenner,...

The new Netflix series 3 Body Problem is continuing to tell the story of its first season through some “additional episodes” that the streamer has ordered, which will seemingly segue into new seasons as the show has been renewed for two more. The 3 Body Problem was the title of the first novel in Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy. The second novel was titled The Dark Forest and the third was Death’s End. The first season of 3 Body Problem did pull in a sizeable audience, but the show wasn’t exactly the massive hit Netflix was hoping it would be, especially when you factor in the price tag of over $20 million per episode.

When Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set out to craft an epic series called 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of a trilogy of sci-fi novels written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, for the Netflix streaming service, they were hoping to get four seasons out of the material. But when the first season of 3 Body Problem started streaming in March and pulled in a sizeable but underwhelming number of views, some began to question whether or not Netflix would want any more episodes of the big budget show. Filmmakers often say that they have to personalize their work. After all, they painstakingly devote at least two years of their lives to bring a film to fruition, but in the case of Tarot co-directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, they turned what would normally be a genre exercise into something from the heart.
Tarot — which serves as the writer-directors’ feature directorial debut — is a supernatural horror film involving a group of college friends who, during a weekend getaway, crack open a cursed deck of tarot cards to learn their ominous horoscopes. The tarot card reading is reluctantly led by Harriet Slater’s Haley, who, like Halberg, is a Minnesota native, and shortly after the friend group returns to their Boston-area university, all hell breaks loose as each individual reading comes true in lethal fashion.

Those who know who Roland Emmerich is will probably know that the director is known for his epic films, a lot of which are also major disaster films. Some of these major titles include Universal Soldier (1992), Stargate (1994), Independence Day (1996) and its sequel Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), Godzilla (1998), The Patriot (2000), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), 10,000 BC (2008), 2012 (2009), White House Down (2013), Midway (2019), and Moonfall (2022). But, Emmerich is now shifting to television, as his new project is about to be released on Peacock this summer. Ahead of the premiere, a teaser trailer has been released.
The project in question is the epic sword-and-sandal series Those About to Die, which is set in Ancient Rome. The series will be based on the book of the same name by writer and journalist Daniel P. Mannix; interesting enough, the same book served as the basis for Ridley Scott’s epic classic, Gladiator.

Independence Day and Moonfall director Roland Emmerich heads to ancient Rome for the TV series, Those About To Die. Here’s a trailer and some other things.
Whether he makes sci-fi disaster films or somewhat more grounded dramas, writer-director-producer Roland Emmerich’s work is seldom dull. For a recent example, just take a look at Moonfall.
Emmerich is heading to ancient Rome for his latest opus – the 10-part TV series Those About To Die. It’s based on the book by Daniel P Mannix, and is all about the scheming and political intrigue that goes into the staging of gladiatorial contests. It’s probably no coincidence that the series will stream in July – a matter of months before Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated Gladiator 2 emerges in November.
Anthony Hopkins leads the ensemble cast, and stars as Emperor Vespasian. You’ll also find Dimitri Leonidas as Flavius Scorpus (who was a...

With their new horror thriller Guess Who, Tubi may finally have come up with a fairly original idea for one of their films. As far as I can tell, it’s the first film to use mummering as a major plot point. No, not mummies, mummering. What is mummering? Mummering is a Christmas-time house-visiting tradition practised in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ireland, and the City of Philadelphia. It adds a touch of Halloween to the season as people would dress in disguise and go door to door. If they were invited in, they’d give some kind of performance while their hosts tried to guess who they were.
Michael and Kaitlyn, his fiancée, are driving out to meet his family when they have to stop for gas.

We’ve been tracking the progress of a Sony / Screen Gems horror movie called Horrorscope for a while now. Last month, it was announced that the movie had been given a May 10th theatrical release date. Today, with the release date still a few months away, a trailer for the film has arrived online… and this trailer reveals that Horrorscope has undergone a title change. It’s now known as Tarot! You can watch the trailer in the embed above.
Best known for playing Peter Parker’s best friend Ned in the recent Spider-Man movies, Jacob Batalon plays the title character in the horror comedy Syfy / Hulu / Amazon series Reginald the Vampire, and also has a lead role in Tarot. He’s joined in the cast by Avantika (Mean Girls), Alana Boden (I Am Elizabeth Smart), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn: The Foundation), Humberly González (Ginny & Georgia), Wolfgang Novogratz (The Last Summer...

Sinister cards, death, teenagers. That’s all you need to know about the new horror film Tarot before watching the trailer here.
A group of teens begin dying mysteriously after taking part in a sinister game. Sound familiar? This could easily describe mutliple films such as Ouija, Truth Or Dare or Stay Alive.
In this case, though, we’re talking about Tarot, which is aiming to be 2024’s big horror sensation.
Take a look at the Tarot trailer.
If the name Tarot doesn’t ring a bell, not to worry. The film was going by the name Horrorscope until recently.
Here’s the official synopsis: “When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a...

The idea of found footage as a filmmaking technique stretches back to at least 1961 with the release of Shirley Clarke's relatively obscure drama "The Connection." The found footage style was used to present scripted material as if it were documentary footage, employing a lot of shaky, handheld camera work and extemporaneous-sounding dialogue. The term "found footage" sprung from a common conceit of the style, which often implied that something horrible had happened to the filmmakers that prevented them from assembling and editing their footage. Once their footage was found, it was edited by a third party and presented in the theater.
There were many found footage films from 1961 until 2007, but the release and overwhelming success of Oren Peli's "Paranormal Activity" sparked a years-long wave of the format, with most of its glory-chasers employing horror as their baseline. Late 2000s found footage horror was largely effective, as it often...

The sci-fi movies on this list are not all great works of art. They're not all "secretly great," not all misunderstood masterpieces, and they're certainly not all even "good." Some are! Some are merely fun. Some are bad but instructively so, movies whose bad-ness is thought-provoking. Some are even so bad, they circle back around to being incredibly entertaining.
Is "bad-ness" a lack of competence, or one of taste? As C.S. Lewis once wrote, labeling something negatively is an easy way out. "The distinction [between highbrow and lowbrow] is certainly used to allow us the satisfaction of despising certain authors and readers without imposing on us the labour of showing that they are bad," he wrote. He was talking about books, but his point still stands.
I steadfastly believe that it's worthwhile to watch "bad" movies. I believe we can learn a lot from them about our taste, about what works and what doesn't,...

Found footage horror movies are a dime a dozen, but they can still produce some of the scariest moments in horror. Whether set in a single bedroom or the vastness of the Maryland woods, plenty of the best horror movies can be found in the found footage genre.
One underrated found footage movie is the sci-fi horror film "Apollo 18." Released in 2011 and directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego from a script by Brian Miller, the film asks one question — why did we stop going to the moon? Rather than budget cuts and a lack of public interest in the space program, "Apollo 18" imagines a fictionalized version of the canceled Apollo 18 mission that quickly descends into terror and death. In the film, a trio of astronauts heading to the moon in 1974 learn their mission is not to study moon rocks or even Soviet missiles, but a recently-discovered alien species living on the moon.

There’s something about January that just makes us crave movies about comically stupid aviation and space travel mishaps. Whether that stems from a sincere desire for post-holiday palette cleansers or Pavlovian conditioning from a lifetime of studios dumping their misfires in the first six weeks on the calendar is beside the point. This is the time of year that brought us the basic cable heroism of “Plane” and the joyless asininity of “Moonfall” and the wide spectrum of mediocrity that exists between them. In that sense, “I.S.S.” is just another entry in a proud cinematic tradition.

Everyone loves cheesy movies, right? And who doesn’t like that warm feeling you get in your stomach when you help out the unfortunate; especially at this time of the year? Well, last year Nerdcage Live (which comes to us from our very own writer/editor Jay Saint G) did a charity stream called Cheesy Movies For Charity where they watched various bad movies. Since they smashed their goal last year, they’re bringing it back for another one. We here at JoBlo are all about giving back, so we wanted to make sure to highlight a cause we care about this Holiday Season.

Earlier this year, Sony / Screen Gems announced that they would be giving the horror film Horrorscope a theatrical release on June 28, 2024. But in late October, Paramount announced that they were moving A Quiet Place: Day One from its previously announced March 8, 2024 release date to June 28. So it’s no surprise to hear (via Borys Kit) that Screen Gems has decided to shift Horrorscope forward to May 10th. Thanks to A Quiet Place: Day One, we’re going to see Horrorscope a month earlier.

After nearly a decade, one of the biggest YA franchises is making its return to the big screen. Lionsgate couldn't have jumped faster when author Suzanne Collins announced a prequel novel to her smash hit "Hunger Games" series, with the studio cutting a deal to turn the book into a movie in the blink of an eye. That movie is now upon us in the form of "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." Taking place decades before the original films, the prequel is focused on a young Coriolanus Snow. The question is, do audiences care as much without Katniss Everdeen out front and center? Can this movie recapture some of that box office magic from years past?
"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is eyeing an opening weekend in the $50 million range, according to tracking numbers provided by Deadline. That is pretty much in line with the folks at Box Office Pro,...

Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Halle Berry had attached herself to a new psychological thriller that she is also set to produce, titled The Process. Deadline reports that Berry will be producing through her company, HalleHolly, with Robert Kravis and Karl Herrmann producing through their Pioneer Pictures banner. Berry is coming off of a personal passion project from Netflix, which she also directed, in which she starred as an Mma fighter, called Bruised. She could also be seen in the recent disaster movie Moonfall by famous Earth-destroying filmmaker Roland Emmerich. Tara Miele will be sitting in the director’s chair for The Process.
Kravis and Herrmann shared their enthusiasm about the upcoming project, “We are thrilled to be working with HalleHolly to bring Levin’s amazing screenplay to the screen. Tara’s vision for the film—a Kubrickian psychological thriller taking us down the rabbit hole of self-help cults,...

The filmmaking trio collectively known as Rkss (François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell) have not one but two features making their rounds in the festival circuit: mean slasher Wake Up (our review) and charming horror-comedy We Are Zombies (our review).
We Are Zombies, an adaptation of Jerry Frissen and Guy Davis’ comic book series “The Zombies That Ate the World,” follows three slackers whose money schemes land them in trouble with an evil corporation that kidnaps their grandma. The catch? This particular world is overrun by zombies, though they’re not the insatiable brain-eaters you’d expect.
Alexander Nachi (“Clash”), Megan Peta Hill (“Riverdale”), and Derek Johns (“Moonfall”) star as Karl, Maggie, and Freddy, respectively, in We Are Zombies.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Rkss after their Fantastic Fest screenings of both Wake Up and We Are Zombies, where they talked about the back-to-back productions.

If you thought Michael Bay’s 1998 disaster flick Armageddon – about a team of oil drillers hired by NASA to deflect an asteroid the size of Texas from hitting Earth – was preposterous, well, you’re right. But as it turns out, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has another pick for the most inaccurate sci-fi movie he has ever seen: 2022’s Halle Berry-starring Moonfall.
Appearing on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show (via Deadline), the host brought up Armageddon as being the movie that “violates more laws of physics per minute than any other film ever made.” But Tyson went for another director who doesn’t exactly take the time to adhere to scientific accuracy: Roland Emmerich. “It was a pandemic film that came out, you know, Halle Berry, and the moon is approaching Earth, and they learned that it’s hollow and there’s a moon being made out of rocks...

Armageddon‘s quarter-century reign as the Hollywood movie running afoul of the most physics laws is over. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson made the revelation during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show to promote his new book, To Infinity and Beyond, highlighting glaring scientific inaccuracies in another space film, the 2022 Moonfall starring Halle Berry.
“Armageddon, you say, violates more laws of physics per minute than any other film ever made,” Cagle began.

DeGrasse Tyson agreed, adding, “That’s what I thought until I saw Moonfall. It was a pandemic film that came out, you know, Halle Berry, and the moon is approaching Earth, and they learned that it’s hollow and there’s a moon being made out of rocks living inside of it and the Apollo missions were really to visit, to feed the moon being, and I just couldn’t, so I said, “Alright,...

Los Angeles, July 30 (Ians) Oscar winning-actress Halle Berry treated her fans to a sexy picture of her celebrating “Leo season” in style as she got a head start on the celebrations of her 57th birthday.
Shared on Twitter, the picture saw the actress skateboarding in the street while wearing a white T-shirt and tropical-patterned bikini bottom. As she let her brunette locks look naturally messy and went makeup-free, she threw a smile at the camera, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“Sliding into Leo season,” the ‘Catwoman’ star, whose birthday is on August 14, captioned the snap. If the picture looked familiar, it was because Halle actually posted some snaps from the same photo shoot on Instagram in March 2022.
Halle isn’t a stranger to sharing sexy photos on social media. Back in April, she heated up the Internet by sharing a photo of her drinking wine while naked on a balcony.

It’s been ten years since Patrick Wilson last stepped into The Further, but the actor returned for Insidious: The Red Door. Not only did Wilson reprise his role of Josh Lambert, but he’s also made his feature directorial debut with the Insidious sequel. Just how did that come about? Turns out that all he had to do… was ask.

Patrick Wilson told THR that he had been looking for an opportunity to direct for a number of years. When Insidious co-creator Leigh Whannell approached him about returning for a fifth installment of the franchise, he admitted that he probably would have said no until his agent suggested that he could direct the movie as well.
It was literally my agent asking. It got pitched to me. They came to me with an idea for a story. Before they wrote a story about the Lamberts,...

Insidious: The Red Door star-director Patrick Wilson thought he was done with the Insidious franchise, but The Further wasn’t done with him or his character quite yet.
In 2019, Wilson was quietly looking around for an opportunity to make his directorial debut, and when franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell happened to come up with an idea for a fifth Insidious film involving the return of the Lambert family, Wilson’s agent asked Blumhouse if Wilson could direct and star. One thing led to another, and Wilson found himself brainstorming for his first directorial effort in his backyard with screenwriter Scott Teems. But then the global pandemic derailed the entire world and entertainment industry alike, and so Wilson kept busy as an actor until Insidious 5 got back on track.

For a movie so transparently intended to tie up the loose ends of a long-frayed horror franchise that’s only put out prequels for the last 10 years, “Insidious: The Red Door” is a surprisingly accessible introduction to the Lambert family and their unfortunate history of demonic possession. This jolt-happy July programmer might be as dull and rusty as a nail in the coffin could possibly get without breaking apart, but “Insidious” newcomers should rest assured that they’ll be able to follow along with their friends’ exasperation.
One reason you should be able to jump in easily enough: the film starts with young Dalton (Ty Simpkins) and his dad Josh (Patrick Wilson) being hypnotized to forget everything that happened in “Insidious” and “Insidious: Chapter 2,” which effectively puts them on the same page as most of the people in the audience. For another thing, Scott Teems’ script — somehow even thinner than...

Roland Emmerich has launched a couple franchises with movies he has directed – Universal Soldier and Stargate – but he didn’t have anything to do with the stories that followed. He contributed to the Godzilla franchise, but his contribution wasn’t well received. And when he tried to make a “decades later” sequel to his film Independence Day, that didn’t go very well either. His movie Moonfall was supposed to kick off a trilogy, but it bombed instead. Now he’s masterminding a project that’s being called a franchise from the moment it’s announced. It’s called Space Nation, and it’s going to start out with an online video game, which will be followed by a TV series and animated shorts.
Described as a “space opera”, the Space Nation franchise is coming our way from Emmerich; Jerome Wu, who worked on World of Warcraft; Tony Tang, who...

Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are now working on bringing viewers an epic Netflix series called 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of a trilogy of sci-fi novels written by Chinese author Liu Cixin – and a teaser trailer has arrived online to not only show us some dazzling imagery from the show, but also to reveal that it’s going to reach the Netflix streaming service sometime in January of 2024! You can watch the teaser trailer in the embed above.
The 3 Body Problem was the title of the first novel in Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy. The second novel was titled The Dark Forest and the third Death’s End. The novels tell the story of what happens when humanity discovers that we are not alone in the universe and prepares for an alien force arriving from a distant and inhospitable world.

As the impact of the pandemic starts to dissipate, studios and film financiers are winding down some of the costly Covid protocols that added millions of dollars to their bottom lines. They are also avoiding the kind of prolonged shutdowns that dogged film sets during the initial years of the virus. That’s the good news.
But as the entertainment industry converges on Cannes, hoping to sell finished films and line up financing for their next projects, they are grappling with economic headwinds that threaten to sweep aside the cost savings associated with post-pandemic production.
“It’s just the nature of the industry right now — whenever something positive happens, there’s a new challenge that arises,” says Simon Williams, managing partner of Ashland Hill Media Finance. “You’ve cut a lot of what had been budgeted for Covid in terms of testing and contingency plans if someone gets sick, but...
