- TriviaYoung Luke is drawing pictures with his crayons. The lunchbox he keeps his crayons in is one that features E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982). Featured on the lunchbox is a drawing of a young Henry Thomas. In addition to this, the closing Amblin Entertainment logo features an animated graphic of Elliott and E.T. flying across the moon, giving Henry Thomas three different appearances in this episode.
- GoofsWhen Nell calls Hugh in the middle of the night, he is in Jacksonville, FL. He tells her he will drive to Orlando to catch a flight to LA to be with her. Jacksonville has its own airport, and Orlando is over two hours away by car. Driving to Orlando to catch a plane makes no sense in an emergency situation.
- Quotes
Steven Crain: I've seen a lot of ghosts. Just not the way you think. A ghost can be a lot of things. A memory, a daydream, a secret. Grief, anger, guilt. But, in my experience, most times they're just what we want to see. Most times, a ghost is a wish.
- Alternate versionsThe DVD and Blu-ray releases feature new and extended scenes:
- The Crain parents talk about having a hard time sleeping in the new house - they say it's too quiet, but then start to hear the house making sounds, which they blame on the pipes.
- More details are added to the story the woman tells to Steven about the ghost of her husband visiting her at night.
- Mrs. Dudley tells a young Steven in the kitchen, "In the night, in the dark."
- Steven sees a car wreck while driving. His publisher calls him and asks him how the meeting went with the woman who says her husband visited her at night. He tells his publisher, but his publisher says Steven doesn't sound too enthusiastic. Steven then pitched an idea about haunted highways. As the two discuss what will sell, his publisher suggests that he write a sequel to "The Haunting of Hill House," which visibly irritates Steven.

Episode 1 review
I am now five episodes in and have gone back to episode 1 for this review to urge patience and enjoy the build up.
The first introduces the main sitting (Holl House) and flits between past and present to set the scene. Later episodes explore in more detail each character giving them each the space to breathe and develop as individuals. That is so worth the wait. So enjoy it like a really good meal that is being prepared - don't rush it and dismiss too soon because you expect it all in one go. Just think of it as several courses that make each one taste better. Genuine craftsmanship in telling this story...
