I agree, but the war was started in 1911 when Italians invaded Lybia. From this war, start the First Balkan War, with the end of this, started the Second Balkan War, and with the end of this, the WWI. The WWI caused the WWII. Actually nobody can say that Hitler started the WWII as with occopation of Belarus and Ukraine by URSS, Germany was affraid that URSS would invade Poland. Where Can I Find Information on Translation Issues?

Thanks so much for the message Moxy, I hope you can steer me in the right direction.

I'm interested in translating articles on women's history, biographies, etc. from French to English. I'm having a tough time finding a forum for Wiki writers/editors dealing with general technical issues related to translating articles from one Wiki language to another (French, for example to English).

What I'm trying to find out is how I can copy over info already laid out by the original article author, so that I can preserve formatting. If they have an info box, tables, images, etc. included in the original article, and links/hash tags to footnotes and so on, it would be super efficient if I could keep that formatting when I translate the article. Basically, I just copy and paste the text, and translate/delete as I go along. Is there a system in place for doing this? Or a forum for translation issues?

And, a question about the Wiki editors' control over articles on controversial subjects: I came across a very thoroughly researched article on women living under the Third Reich (Femmes sous le Troisième Reich). It's good enough that I'd like to translate it into English. Clearly, anything dealing with Nazism is going to draw Web vandals, so I'm wondering how I submit something like that for editorial review. Is there a system for locking articles like that to control editing changes? I thought I'd better ask about this first, before I translate it and post it and any vandal activity happens.

Hi Audrey, I'm not Moxy but I've got a couple quick answers for you: Wikipedia's translations department has some tips for translating and includes a discussion page where you can discuss your ideas with other editors. Probably your best bet when translating from another wiki would be to copy the formatting from edit mode, making sure to translate any templates being used. However, if you do that make sure you explain what you're doing in the edit summary and add {{Translated page}} to the new article's talk page. As to your question about controversial topics, Wikipedia generally doesn't allow for pre-emptive protection, but only locks articles from editing once a persistent pattern of vandalism has developed. I try to extablish more cooperation between OSM and Wikimedia, both are free content projects, linking to interesting/important content from Wikipedia to OSM is an important task to be done. They are not good external links - We are not here to promote other wikis - - pls see WP:LINKSTOAVOID #1 #4 #12 ans so on...and ....It is acceptable to link to pages rendered in normal HTML or plain text, but this is not always the case with pages using rich media formats (which may be incompatible with many users' settings and browsers). Check that the content type of the linked page is text/html, text/plain, or application/xhtml+xml (or another XHTML content type) as some pages may instead be rendered solely by platform-dependent plugins. Try to avoid directly linking to any content that requires special software, or an add-on to a browser. It is always preferred to link to a page rendered in normal HTML that contains embedded links to the rich media..Moxy (talk) 14:52, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I am sorry but I do not understand what are you talking about. I do not see any "patform dependent" stuff for instance at this link. It seems to be normal (X?)HTML with some JavaScript (I did not study the code deeply though). The only problem may be the thumbnail of a map may render for some time depending on the complexity of the linked map data, but then the thumbnail is just an ordinary image. Maybe you did not wait long enough for the map to be shown and you thought it was supposed to be some Flash content or so? OSM is not a commercial site, it is just another free content project... We have ton of similar (or maybe worse) external links templates, most of which even do not link to free content, but maybe to (at least) some useful content. We have well established template for {{Wikitravel}} for instance, so I really do not see a problem here at all.--Kozuch (talk) 19:37, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The link is simply not allowed as per WP:LINKSTOAVOID #1 #4 #12 - infact were are talking about deleting the template internally from Wikipedia. that said still not sure how a wiki that is about roads has any place on this main article that dont even mention roads. Again, I can not agree. You may also stop (kind of fanatic) wikilawyering. FYI, OSM is more than roads, you probably want to look at the map actually. I would object with Wikipedia:Ignore all rules which is around for quite long time and is hopefully simple enought to understand. I appreciate your current contributions to the situation that has happened with the expulsion of the acadians article. The article is currently focused more on the acadian resistance than the actual removal because I developed 5 separate articles for the 5 british campaigns against the acadians that make up the deportation. Should I put more of what is in the 5 articles into the main expulsion page? I did not do this earlier out of concern for length and assumed people would follow the links. Please advise. I see that you reverted my edits where I removed the WikiProject link from the country topic templates. You gave a reason that it was a long-standing edit. This is not a suitable rationale for your reversion since WP is a forever changing organic "thing". The reason why I removed them is that there is generally separation between content and project pages as ascertained by observing WP content as a whole. There are exceptions to this rule of course - the most notable being the Talk page link on virtually every page. We are here to serve the readers who are by har the most numerous visitors. Editors, or aspiring editors, can easily find the WikiProject of interest by going to the talk page. Actually consensus is that they are ok - as they are used on thousands and thousands of templates ranging from country templates to music templates to sports to weather and all inbetween. Templates are not content pages and are here to help navigate topics within Wikipedia as a whole. Consensus is a normal and usually implicit and invisible process across Wikipedia. Any edit that is not disputed or reverted by another editor can be assumed to have consensus. Should that edit later be revised by another editor without dispute, it can be assumed that a new consensus has been reached. In this case it was reverted back so no new consensus has been reached. All actions taken when editing Wikipedia should involve common sense - Honestly do you realy believe that removing the Wikiproject links from templates will help or impede Wikipedia progress? Ottawa population history

Hi Moxy, I've followed up on this discussion by researching the historic StatCan population counts of the City of Ottawa according to the pre-amalgamated boundaries. Here are the results.

Any initial thoughts to share on how this could be presented at Demographics of Ottawa#Population history and Ottawa#Demographics? The "pre" and "post" columns could be merged into one column, with two sets numbers in each of the "1996" and "2001" rows, or notes provided below the tables to present the 2001 dissolved (former city) and 1996 adjusted (new city) populations.

Mystery

Please solve this mystery if you can...

On September 23rd, traffic to Portal:James Bond doubled, and has stayed at the new level since then. I can't figure out what happened.

Traffic to Outline of James Bond stayed the same (though it was at the higher-level already), which leads me to suspect changes made somewhere in Wikipedia.

Copyediting for clarity

Hello Moxy - I've just taken the liberty of copyediting a reply you left on the D'Oyly Carte talk page (I hope you don't mind). That's something I wouldn't normally do on a talk page. What persuaded me to do it was the fact that I had genuinely misunderstood points you were making earlier in the discussion (perhaps decades of living largely in another language has something to with my difficulty in understanding). I believe I got the project and its subpages into your userspace. If I missed any, let me know. As I mentioned in the MfD, if you have reason to believe that you can activate this project (say, if you posted requests and got a positive response on the talk page of relevant articles), we can consider returning it to mainspace. Per a note on my talk page, I actually went ahead and changed the redirect to WP:WikiProject Rock music, which makes much more sense. After doing that, I noticed that that Wikiproject does have a task force for a specific band, so maybe it might be worth checking with them if that's a better, more centralized way to go. I haven't finished dealing with all of the backlinks to the old Wikiproject; especially, I need to find an efficient way to remove the templates from all of the talk pages.
