Roxas, CapizRoxas City – in the name should not be included province name Capiz. the official name is Roxas City. Having colloquial names causes confusion. Please don't use colloquial names Peter Hanusiak (talk) 21:25, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 4 September 2022

The result of the move request was: moved. As argued, WP:NATURAL. If and when there are other Roxas Cities in the future, feel free to move them, including this, accordingly. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 17:28, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Roxas, CapizRoxas City – As per WP:CRITERIA. "Roxas City" is the more common name used and known. Merd123 (talk) 07:20, 3 September 2022 (UTC) — Relisting.  ASUKITE 15:50, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support move. WP:MOSPHIL is no more, and we've already moved Lapu-Lapu, Philippines to Lapu-Lapu City, one of the sticking points of the previous RM. MOSPHIL aside, "Roxas City" is far and away the most common name for this place, over "Roxas" and "Roxas, Capiz". Howard the Duck (talk) 18:59, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Howard the Duck: if you are contesting MOSPHIL, then have the entire guideline be submitted for possible permanent removal and abandonment at some appropriate forum, let's say WP:Village pump or anywhere. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 04:37, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, WP:MOSPHIL has been edited after the fact. See for example, the edits after the moves of Samar and Leyte (province). No one respects that guideline, whether it is tagged historical or not. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:55, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, Per WP:MOSPHIL#Cities:
If the city has the same name as another city or municipality in the Philippines, disambiguate with a comma and the provincial name after the name of the city (e.g., "Tanauan, Batangas"). If it is in Metro Manila, use Cityname, Metro Manila. This is also applicable to independent and highly urbanized cities, except those names which are unique in the Philippines but not in other countries. The provincial name purports to describe the general area and not necessarily as the mother political unit of the city. .
Maanshen (talk) 06:46, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why are still using WP:MOSPHIL when WP:RS predominantly uses "Roxas City" as a name for this place. It's far and away the most common name. No one calls this "Roxas" or "Roxas, Capiz", at least on the first reference, and "Roxas" is only used for brevity.
For example, using the third party sources on the article per se (I left out government and first party sources):
  1. Roxas City has ‘best police station’ in WV
  2. Eco-driven CBD to rise in Roxas City: Interesting it located itself as "Roxas City, Panay"
  3. Roxas’ prized shellfish makes a comeback: Interesting title, but as you go through the prose: "ROXAS CITY—Two decades ago, Roxas City in Capiz almost lost its..."
Howard the Duck (talk) 12:23, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See also the case of Angeles City and Lapu-Lapu City. Angeles City may have similar names elsewhere but even foreigners (due to the sex trade) know how it is called. Lapu-Lapu City, AFAIK, has no similar names elsewhere. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:46, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note: WikiProject Tambayan Philippines has been notified of this discussion. ASUKITE 15:50, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Strong oppose: we have three four Philippine municipalities whose English Wikipedia titles bear the exact name "Roxas": Roxas, Isabela; Roxas, Oriental Mindoro; Roxas, Palawan; and Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte which was titled last year. By adding "City," new problem will appear once one of the three towns becomes a city (some may dismiss it as WP:CRYSTAL, but it is a realistic scenario that must be avoided; plus WP:CRYSTAL, in my knowledge, only applies to the article content). Bacolod and Maasin are special cases as they only have one other identically-titled municipality (Bacolod, Lanao del Norte and Maasin, Iloilo). I stressed "Philippine" as Angeles City should not be used as a pattern for the case of Roxas. The other Angeles settlements (excluding barangays) are all outside the Philippines, hence there is no need to disambiguate it. For Lapu-Lapu City, it is common sense: there are no other Lapu-Lapu towns even abroad! JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 04:42, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's President Roxas, Capiz which may be confused with "Roxas, Capiz" currently. If anything, with have to move "Roxas City" to "Roxas City, Capiz" in the very low chance any of the other Roxases become cities in the future. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:34, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I guess this is the reason why it is called "Roxas City" because there's already a similarly named municipality in the same province, sorta like how "Quezon City" is called as such to distinguish from "Quezon" province. Clearly, this is something WP:MOSPHIL didn't anticipate (two almost identically named same-level LGUs in the same province) and with "Roxas City" a clear WP:NATDIS over "Roxas, Capiz", this is the best solution for now. Howard the Duck (talk) 02:23, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Roxas City is widely known as the hometown of Manuel Roxas, which is obviously where its name came from. It was also the first town to be named "Roxas", as well as the first to become a city. Therefore, no one has ever gotten or will ever be confused by that, as it has been known since. If the other municipalities with the same name become cities one day, their names should remain as "Roxas, Province". Likely, Roxas City will not be affected similarly to Quezon City with the other six municipalities named "Quezon". Merd123 (talk) 05:16, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Roxas CityRoxas, Capiz – As per WP:MOSPHIL. The are 3 municipalities that are also named "Roxas". WikiCentral24 (talk) 23:18, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy close. Just five hours after this was posted. "Roxas, Capiz" is ambiguous as "President Roxas, Capiz" exists. No other Roxas cities elsewhere in the world AFAIK. Howard the Duck (talk) 21:51, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
