Hi Folks, Here is today's Byte 💡: Vulnerability Scanning for Images in Azure Container Registry 🛑 : 🔹Integrates with Microsoft Defender for Cloud to provide enhanced security for containerized applications. 🔹Automatically scans container images for vulnerabilities as they are pushed to ACR. It identifies vulnerabilities in both the base image and the application layers. 🔹Once images are scanned, continuous monitoring ensures that new vulnerabilities are detected as they are discovered, providing an ongoing security assessment. 🔹 The results of the scans are integrated into the Azure portal and can be accessed through the ACR or Microsoft Defender for Cloud dashboards. Reports include severity levels and remediation guidance. Imagine you have the following requirement: some pods need to be placed on specific nodes dedicated to compute intensive, memory intensive, and storage intensive workloads. How do you ensure these pods are scheduled correctly and not placed on other nodes? At the same time, how do you ensure that no other pods are placed on these optimized nodes? In the world where we are used to treat resources as limitless it is important to remember that POCs and even small MVPs we do - are not in fact free cheese. Cloud time and compute time do cost a lot when come at scale - may be not straight from developer’s pocket , but for enterprise - absolutely . Try to do things locally - if you need to wait for few minutes vs ‘almost instant ‘ result with more powerful hardware on cloud - it’s ok. It gives you time to stop and think . You can’t give excuse of ‘ well it runs here for 10s but we can scale this in cloud and it will be 800ms without trying to understand why things are slow. These latencies do build up in complex systems. Local run is perfect opportunity to try to tune things and investigate why things are indeed slow. Overnormalizes databases , autogenerated queries , chaining calls to microservices , locking up on shared resources - causes are rather usual and categories are pretty much same . Overcome them with good design and programming discipline and you just saved money for your company and grief for yourself and your team in long run when you support solutions .
