Marvel Studios' upcoming superhero flick "Thunderbolts*" is slated to be the 36th feature film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will assemble six ancillary characters culled from previous MCU movies and TV shows, making them into a ragtag fighting force. On the team are the Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, and Taskmaster from "Black Widow," the Winter Soldier and U.S. Agent (Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell) from "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) from "Ant-Man and the Wasp." These characters previously served as low-level villains or antagonists, but are now redeeming themselves as hunted antiheroes.
The first full trailer for "Thunderbolts*" was released on September 23, 2024, and it displays the requisite action that the genre demands, as well as the notable character reveals that the MCU is known for. The characters are also well-equipped with quips, wielding bathos like a cudgel. A car is shot during an intense chase sequence,...

This one’s been a long time coming. Stephen King is a genre unto himself at this point. A “Stephen King movie” can be anything from Stand By Me to Maximum Overdrive, and the only thing they all have in common is him as the original source of the material. It seems like a given at this point that if King publishes something, it will eventually be turned into a film. Some books just take longer than others to make the jump. For example, Hulu just wrapped up 11.22.63, the eight-part adaptation of King’s time-travel story about trying to stop the murder of JFK from taking place. Co-produced by Bad Robot and starring James Franco, that was not the first attempt at cracking that adaptation. Jonathan Demme was the first director to try to take a crack at that one, and he was going to do it as a feature film.

Exclusive: ICM Partners has signed Tod ‘Kip’ Williams, the Gotham-based director who last helmed the found footage sequel horror hit Paranormal Activity 2. He’s next directing Tangier, a Tom Pabst-scripted indie that will be produced by Traffic‘s Laura Bickford. I’ll always remember Williams for having the stones to take it upon himself to charm author John Irving into giving him a free option on his bestselling novel A Widow For One Year. Irving had never heard of Williams, who had only directed the festival film The Adventures Of Sebastian Cole. His producer, Ted Hope, had an in with Irving in that the author was briefly his wrestling coach at Exeter. That got Williams a foot in the door, and he sold Irving on his pitch to take only a portion of a sprawling tale (most of Irving’s books are sprawling tales), and make that the focus of the film.

He's come a long way from playing Vinny Chase: Adrian Grenier steps out this week as executive producer of the documentary "How to Make Money Selling Drugs."
Best known for his eight-season portrayal of an often superficial and flighty star on the rise in HBO's "Entourage," Grenier is nowadays more interested in passion projects like this one. "How to Make Money" outlines the ins and outs of buying and selling recreational drugs, using a video game framing device that explains how to beat bosses (avoid cops) and level up (go from small-time dealer to kingpin).
The doc premiered at New York's Tribeca Film Festival to positive reviews, many of which cited its candid take on the tough issue of the drug war and the day-to-day reality of selling and using street drugs. Grenier, who avoids referring to himself as an activist, chatted with NextMovie prior to the movie's June 26 release...

The Movie: 'Paranormal Activity 2,' directed by first-time genre filmmaker Tod Williams ('The Adventures of Sebastian Cole,' 'The Door in the Floor') and literally starring a cast of unknowns: not only are the actors not famous, but Paramount has done their best to keep us from learning their names. It is a sequel to Oren Peli's sleeper indie hit 'Paranormal Activity,' which cost $15,000 and grossed $108 million domestically last fall.
The Target Audience: Horror fans of all stripes, including those who can't or won't stomach the heavier, gorier fare that's become the rage over the past few years. Teens. People on dates.

Paranormal Activity 2 is the Prequel / Update to last years blockbuster hit Paranormal Activity. In this film we get a background on what led to the events in the first film. We have the two characters from the first film Katie & Micah and also Katie’s family…her sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephew, their dog, niece’s boyfriend and of course the Demonic force with a bit more attitude this time around. This was filmed in the same first person perspective as the first one with footage from security cameras. It has a bit more shock value than the first, but I don’t think it really surpasses the first film scare wise.
The people behind Paranormal Activity 2 clearly learned a lesson from the debacle of Blair Witch 2: Book Of Shadows; they’ve hewed scrupulously close to the original film in style and tone. The result is probably the...

Paramount’s released a tweaked version of their Paranormal Activity 2 teaser. It’s more-or-less the same thing we saw in July, but with a few added splices/visual gags.
MTV has done a nice job pointing them out, from the split-second shots of the baby and someone holding her from behind to an extremely, cracked blurry frame of a woman who may or may not be the murderous Katie from the first film.
Check out the trailer and a couple of the Easter eggs below:

Paranormal Activity 2 is directed by Tod Williams (The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, The Door in the Floor) and hits theaters October 22nd, 2010.

After many, many months of careful planning and lengthy pre-production meetings and script rewrites, here’s a teaser trailer for the sequel to Paranormal Activity, which was released around 8 months ago. Paranormal Activity 2 will hit theaters about a year after the first. At least they’re not rushing em out like the Saw films.
Check out the teaser below (via Collider):
The strangest thing about this sequel is the guy directing it: Tod Williams. Williams was behind nice, little indie ditties The Adventures of Sebastian Cole and The Door in the Floor. He’s been relatively quiet since Floor‘s 2004 release. So why this job? Why now? And why did the studio deem him the best choice?
Only time will tell. As for the teaser, it looks just fine. More of the same plus a dog and a kid. Upping the stakes. Well played.

Last August, a small film called Paranormal Activity swept the nation, making nearly $200 Million to date, worldwide, and creeping out just about every teen who walked into the theater. On the other side, 2009 was the 6th consecutive year that Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures put out a film in the Saw franchise. To date, Saw VI has only made $60 Million worldwide.
Since 2005, a Saw film has always dominated the theaters on the weekend of or just before Halloween. Granted, October is infamous for being the worst financial time of year for films and it still holds strong. Now, it seems the sequel to Paranormal Activity will be coming out to directly compete with the next Saw film, and they plan to be victorious. From Variety:
Paramount is committed to meeting the Oct. 22 release date for “Paranormal Activity 2,” which pits the sequel directly against “Saw VII 3D.”
“Saw VII” has already tried to bloody “Paranormal 2″ once.

The man who’s got the job of turning a Paranormal Activity sequel around by mid-October has been revealed…
However we look at it, there's still a distinct smell of poisoned chalice about Paranormal Activity 2. Announced at the back end of last year and with a release date of October 22nd already locked, the film lost its original choice of director, Kevin Greutert, when he proved to be contractually obliged to helm Saw 7 instead.
Then, last month names such as Akiva Goldsman and Brian De Palma were being linked with the project. As most of us suspected, De Palma was a no-go, but finally, Paramount has its man.
The announcement came in the form of a statement from Oren Peli, who helmed the first film. He wrote:
I have some awesome news for the fans of Paranormal Activity - director Kip Williams will join us for the next chapter of the story.

When it comes to Paranormal Activity 2, everything seems to be paranormal, huh?
Previously, Brian De Palma and Akiva Goldsman had been rumored to possibly helm the sequel, but now the central news referring to Paranormal Activity 2 sounds: Tod ‘Kip’ Williams has signed on to direct it!
And it’s official, and it’s written by Oren Peli (who directed the first film), and it sits right there, on their official site, and it goes like this:
We are thrilled to have Kip working with us. He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans…and I can’t wait to be a part of what he’s putting together. I don’t want to spoil the story but I promise it’ll surprise you.
We can only hope that this will be a good decision, since...

Paranormal Activity did manage some very hair-raising scares even if it centred on one of the most annoying couples I've ever had to watch.
The actors are a real-life pair and used their true names in the film. In the story, Katie had an unsettling past that she shrugged off with half-soaked complacency while boyfriend Micah's stupid actions - a weak device to escalate the story - were just irritating. My first thought was that people as dumb and unlikeable as this deserve to be haunted.
Nonetheless, the supernatural chills were incredibly effective and the movie, although over-hyped as the scariest film ever made, brought in $193million on a minuscule budget of just $15,000.
No surprise then that a sequel was hurriedly greenlit. A director has now been hired and a release date set for October 22, 2010.

It appears the list of finalists to direct Paranormal Activity 2 wasn’t so final after all. For a while, it looked like either Brad Anderson, Greg McLean or Brian De Palma was going to end up helming Paramount Pictures’ highly-anticipated horror sequel after Kevin Greutert was forced to leave. However, neither of the three ended up getting the gig; instead, the studio has reportedly hired Tod "Kip" Williams, whose last film was 2004’s The Door in the Floor.
Oren Peli, who will produce Paranormal Activity 2 and directed the first film, wrote about the hiring on his Paranormal Activity website (a story confirmed by Variety). "We are thrilled to have Kip working with us. He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans. I'm a huge fan of The Door in the Floor (2004) starring this year's best actor Oscar winner Jeff Bridges. It was directed by Tod "Kip" Williams, who landed his second film by persuading author John Irving to sell him the rights to A Widow for One Year for a dollar, and then wrote a script that Bridges fell in love with, even though he didn't care for Williams' first film. That was The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, which cost a mere $350,000 and starred a then-unknown Adrien Grenier as a teenager dealing with his transsexual step-father. (Oddly, when Paramount Classics' David Dinerstein and Ruth Vitale walked out of the first Sundance screening of The Blair Witch Project in January 1999 because they had to attend ...

The road to staging a sequel to Paramount's best investment in the studio's history has finally been paved with a director. Earlier today Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli announced through the film's website that Kip Williams will direct the follow-up. Williams isn't too well known; he directed the festival darling The Adventures of Sebastian Cole back in 1998, and also the little-seen The Door in the Floor. I kinda like this move because a bigger, more notable name would've completely taken away from the cool, low-budget vibe folks fell in lust with in the first place. There's still no word on what the sequel will be about, and Peli – who's executive producing and involved with the story – wouldn't divulge any details. One assumes they'll play around with the way...

Tod "Kip" Williams has signed on to direct this fall's sequel to Paranormal Activity. Cue Michael from Arrested Development: "Him?" Previously, Brian De Palma and Akiva Goldsman (one of the project's producers) had been rumored to possibly helm the sequel after Kevin Greutert couldn't do it. (Lionsgate's Saw 3D opens the same not-quite-haunted-yet day as the Paranormal sequel: October 22.) "Kip is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans," writes producer Oren Peli, who directed the original Paranormal. Neato. Who wants to find out what Kip Williams has done besides marry Gretchen Mol?...

And we have a winner! Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli has just announced the director of Paranormal Activity 2. Find out who the lucky fellow is after the jump. Writer-director Kip Williams will take the helm of the sequel to the smash indie hit. On the official Paranormal Activity website, Peli remarks..."He is the guy we want at the helm because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans." Williams prior credits are mostly in the indie drama-comedy realm, including the Jeff Bridges drama The Door in the Floor and the Adrian Grenier coming-of-age film The Adventures of Sebastian Cole. Here's hoping he brings a smart edge to the sequel, and we can a Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows type...

Tod "Kip" Williams has signed on to direct Paranormal Activity 2, due in theaters on Oct. 22. Oren Peli, writer-director of the 2009 supernatural horror hit Paranormal Activity, made the announcement this morning via the movie's official Web site.
The Door in the Floor is Tod Williams' previous directorial effort, and it made $3.9 million in 2004. His only other feature credit is The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, which grossed a little over a $100,000 back in 1999.
"I have some awesome news for the fans of Paranormal Activity-director Kip Williams will join us for the next chapter of the story," Peli wrote. "We are thrilled to have Kip working with us. He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans... and I can't wait to be a part of what he's putting together."

Paramount Pictures has found its director for Paranormal Activity 2. Tod Williams, also known as Kip, is taking over the eerie, low-budget franchise.
I’m afraid I missed Williams’ previous two features: 2004’s Door in the Floor and 1998’s The Adventures of Sebastian Cole. He’s not exactly Brian De Palma, who was rumored last month, but at least it isn’t Akiva Goldsman, who instead took an executive producer role.
The director position was up for grabs after Lionsgate snatched Kevin Greutert from the job and forced him to return for Saw VII (Saw 3D) instead. The two Hollywood studios have been battling since the original Paranormal Activity trounced Saw VI at the box office last October. Paramount continued to torture Lionsgate when it scheduled its sequel on October 22, the same date as the seventh gruesome trap flick.

Has there ever been a process as hilariously varied as Paramount's search for a Paranormal Activity 2 director? Once original director Oren Peli was out, they turned to the likes of Saw VI director Kevin Greutert, Scarface's Brian de Palma and even A Beautiful Mind screenwriter Akiva Goldsman before finally settling on someone equally random: Kip Williams. Williams has only two directing credits to his name, 1998's dramedy The Adventures of Sebastian Cole starring a pre-Entourage Adrian Grenier, and 2004's The Door in the Floor, which featured another one of those Jeff Bridges performances that used to make everyone wonder why he'd never won an Oscar. No, I also have no idea why this experience would make him a good fit for Paranormal Activity 2, but he's no weirder a choice than Goldsman. Coming Soon has the official statement from Peli, who is producing the sequel to his...
