143 (a colloquial term for I Love You) is the upcoming seventh studio album by American singer Katy Perry. It is set to be released on September 20, 2024, by Capitol Records, four years after its predecessor Smile. Its release will coincide with her show at Rock in Rio festival. Perry worked with various producers on the album, such as Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Stargate, Vaughn Oliver, Rocco Did It Again!. She described 143 as "super high energy, it's super summer, it's very high BPM".

Production

In August 2023, Perry confirmed she was working on new material from a "place of love" during a interview with Good Morning America.[1] The following February, she made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and announced her exit from the American Idol judges' panel following the conclusion of the twenty-second season, wanting to "go out and feel that pulse to my own beat" and release new music after being "in the studio for a while".[2] Two months later, Perry told Access Hollywood "I just have yet to make a record from a place of feeling really happy and whole and full of love. Sometimes artists are like, 'Oh, that’s boring, you want to make music from kind of like a tougher place,' but actually it's very bright and joyful, like pure joy and fun and playful and celebratory and a party."[3] Rolling Stone reported the next June that Perry "reconnected" with various music producers who worked before, including Max Martin, Stargate and Dr. Luke.[4]

During a livestream via her social media on July 10, 2024, Perry described 143 as a dance album. She mentioned "I've been talking about [doing] two albums the past eight years and that's a dance album and an acoustic album. I haven't yet made the acoustic album. Well, we never stop writing. But I finally made the dance album, the album I always wanted to make. This record is super high energy, it's super summer, it's very high BPM. We just had a family dance party to one of the songs, and it's just full of so much joy, so much love, so much light."[5]
