The influence of space weathering on the observed spectra of C-complex asteroids remains uncertain. This has long hindered our understanding of their composition through telescope observations. Multi-band imaging of Ryugu by ONC-T on Hayabusa2 and that of Bennu by MapCam on OSIRIS-REx found opposite spectral trends of space weathering; Ryugu darkened/reddened while Bennu brightened/blued. How the spectra of Ryugu and Bennu evolved relative to each other would place a constraint for understanding their origins and evolutions. In this study, we compared the space weathering trends on Ryugu and Bennu by applying the results of cross calibration between ONC-T and MapCam. We show that the average Bennu surface is brighter by 18.0 $\pm$ 1.5% at 550 nm and bluer by 0.18 $\pm$ 0.03 $μ$m$^{-1}$ (480-850 nm slope) than Ryugu. The spectral slopes of surface materials are more uniform on Bennu than on Ryugu at spatial scales $\gtrsim$1 m, but Bennu is more heterogeneous at $\lesssim$1 m. This suggests that lateral mixing due to resurfacing may have been more efficient on Bennu. The reflectance-spectral slope distributions of craters on Ryugu and Bennu appeared to follow two trend lines with an offset before cross calibration, but they converged to a single straight trend without a bend after cross calibration. We show that the spectra of the freshest craters on Ryugu and Bennu are indistinguishable within the uncertainty of cross calibration. These results suggest that Ryugu and Bennu initially had similar spectra before space weathering and that they evolved in completely opposite directions along the same trend line, subsequently evolving into asteroids with different disk-averaged spectra. These findings further suggest that space weathering likely expanded the spectral slope variation of C-complex asteroids, implying that they may have formed from materials with more uniform spectral slopes.

Asteroids (162173) Ryugu and (101955) Bennu observed by Hayabusa2 and OSIRIS-REx share many properties, but spectral observations by the telescopic Optical Navigation Camera (ONC-T) and MapCam detected subtle but significant differences, which may reflect differences in their origin and evolution. Comparing these differences on the same absolute scale is necessary for understanding their causes. However, ONC-T and MapCam have a large imager-to-imager systematic error of up to 15% caused by the difference in radiometric calibration targets. To resolve this problem, we cross calibrated albedo and color data between the two instruments using the Moon as the common calibration standard. The images of the Moon taken by ONC-T and MapCam were compared with those simulated using photometry models developed from lunar orbiter data. Our results show that the cross-calibrated reflectance of Ryugu and Bennu can be obtained by upscaling the pre-cross-calibrated reflectance of Bennu by 13.3 +/- 1.6% at b band, 13.2 +/- 1.5% at v band, 13.6 +/- 1.7% at w band, and 14.8 +/- 1.8% at x band, while those for Ryugu are kept the same. These factors compensate for the imager-to-imager bias caused by differences in targets used for radiometric calibration and solar irradiance models used for data reduction. Need for such large upscaling underscore the importance of using the cross-calibrated data for accurately comparing the Ryugu and Bennu data. The uncertainty in these factors show that the reflectance of Ryugu and Bennu can be compared with <2% accuracy after applying our results. By applying our cross calibration, the geometric albedo of Bennu became consistent with those observed by ground-based telescopes and OVIRS. Our result can be simply applied by multiplying a constant to the publicly available data and enables accurate comparison of the optical spectra of Ryugu and Bennu in future studies.

Zodiacal light (ZL) is sunlight scattered by interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) at optical wavelengths. The spatial distribution of IDPs in the Solar System may hold an important key to understanding the evolution of the Solar System and material transportation within it. The number density of IDPs can be expressed as $n(r) \sim r^{-α}$, and the exponent $α\sim 1.3$ was obtained by previous observations from interplanetary space by Helios 1/2 and Pioneer 10/11 in the 1970s and 1980s. However, no direct measurements of $α$ based on ZL observations from interplanetary space outside Earth's orbit have been performed since then. Here, we introduce initial results for the radial profile of the ZL at optical wavelengths observed over the range 0.76-1.06 au by ONC-T aboard the Hayabusa2# mission in 2021-2022. The ZL brightness we obtained is well reproduced by a model brightness, although there is a small excess of the observed ZL brightness over the model brightness at around 0.9 au. The radial power-law index we obtained is $α= 1.30 \pm 0.08$, which is consistent with previous results based on ZL observations. The dominant source of uncertainty arises from the uncertainty in estimating the diffuse Galactic light (DGL).

Hayabusa2 successfully returned a sample of small particles from the surface of Ryugu, but none of these appear to harbor such inclusions. The samples are considered representative of Ryugu. Aims. To understand the apparent discrepancy between MASCOT observations and Ryugu samples, we assess whether the MASCOT landing site, and the rock by implication, is perhaps atypical for Ryugu. Methods. We analyzed observations of the MASCOT landing area acquired by three instruments on board Hayabusa2: a camera (ONC), a near-infrared spectrometer (NIRS3), and a thermal infrared imager (TIR). We compared the landing area properties thus retrieved with those of the average Ryugu surface. Results. We selected several areas and landforms in the landing area for analysis: a small crater, a collection of smooth rocks, and the landing site itself. The crater is relatively blue and the rocks are relatively red. The spectral and thermophysical properties of the landing site are very close to those of the average Ryugu surface. The spectral properties of the MASCOT rock are probably close to average, but its thermal inertia may be somewhat higher. Conclusions. The MASCOT rock can also be considered representative of Ryugu. Some of the submillimeter-sized particles in the returned samples stand out because of their atypical spectral properties. Such particles may be present as inclusions in the MASCOT rock.

(2019), is based on Hayabusa2 ONC images obtained during the first month after the arrival of Hayabusa2 in June 2018. Utilizing new images taken until February 2019, we constructed a global impact crater catalogue of Ryugu, which includes all craters larger than 20 m in diameter on the surface of Ryugu. As a result, we identified 77 craters on the surface of Ryugu. Ryugu shows variation in crater density which cannot be explained by the randomness of cratering; there are more craters at lower latitudes and fewer at higher latitudes, and fewer craters in the western bulge (160 E - 290 E) than in the region around the meridian (300 E - 30 E). This variation implies a complicated geologic history for Ryugu. It seems that the longitudinal variation in crater density simply indicates variation in the crater ages; the cratered terrain around the meridian seems to be geologically old while the western bulge is relatively young. The latitudinal variation in crater density suggests that the equatorial ridge of Ryugu is a geologically old structure; however, this could be alternatively explained by a collision with many fission fragments during a short rotational period of Ryugu in the past.

Approximately 2400 $Σ^+ p$ elastic scattering events were identified from $4.9 \times 10^7$ tagged $Σ^+$ particles in the $Σ^+$ momentum range 0.44 -- 0.80 GeV/$c$. The differential cross sections of the $Σ^+ p$ elastic scattering were derived with much better precision than in previous experiments. The obtained differential cross sections were approximately 2 mb/sr or less, which were not as large as those predicted by the fss2 and FSS models based on the quark cluster model in the short-range region. By performing phase-shift analyses for the obtained differential cross sections, we experimentally derived the phase shifts of the $^3 S_1$ and $^1 P_1$ channels for the first time. The phase shift of the $^3 S_1$ channel, where a large repulsive core was predicted owing to the Pauli effect between quarks, was evaluated as $20^\circ<|δ_{^3S_1}|<35^\circ$. If the sign of $δ_{^3S_1}$ is assumed to be negative, the interaction in this channel is moderately repulsive, as the Nijmegen extended-sort-core models predicted.

Understanding the geological modification processes on asteroids can provide information concerning their surface history. Images of small asteroids from spacecraft show a depletion in terms of smaller craters. Seismic shaking was considered to be responsible for crater erasure and the main driver modifying the geology of asteroids via regolith convection or the Brazil nut effect. However, a recent artificial impact experiment on the asteroid Ryugu by the Japanese Hayabusa2 mission revealed minimal seismic activity. To investigate whether a seismic shaking model can reproduce the observed crater record, the crater distribution on Ryugu was analyzed using crater production functions under cohesionless conditions. Crater retention ages were estimated as a function of crater diameter for Ryugu, Itokawa, Eros, and Bennu using the crater size-frequency distribution and crater production function estimated for those asteroids. We found that the power-law indices "a" are inconsistent with diffusion processes (e.g., seismic shaking, a=2). This result suggests that seismic shaking models based on diffusion equations cannot explain the crater distribution on small asteroids. Alternative processes include surface flows, possibly at the origin of geomorphological and spectral features of Ryugu. We demonstrate that the vertical mixing of material at depths shallower than 1 m occurs over 10^3-10^5 yr by cratering and obliteration. The young surface age of Ryugu is consistent with the slow space weathering that results from cratering, as suggested in previous studies. The timescale (10^4-10^6 yr) required for resurfacing at depths of 2-4 m can be compared with the cosmic-ray exposure ages of returned samples to constrain the distribution of impactors that collide with Ryugu.

The optical navigation cameras (ONC-T, ONC-W1, ONC-W2) successfully obtained numerous images of Ryugu. ONC-T is a telescopic framing camera with a charge-coupled device (CCD), has seven filter bands in ultraviolet, visible and near infrared wavelength ranges, and were used to map the spectral distribution of the Ryugu surface. Since the locations of a target seen in ONC-T images are slightly different among different wavelength images in one multi-band observation sequence due to changes in spacecraft positions and attitudes during the filter-changing sequence, one of the image processing issues is image co-registration among images for different wavelength bands. To quickly complete the image co-registration to meet a limited mission schedule, we combined conventional image co-registration techniques with several improvements based on previous planetary missions. The results of our analysis using actual ONC-T images indicate that image co-registration can reach accuracy on the order of 0.1 pixels, which is sufficient for many spectral mapping applications for Ryugu analyses.

Precise angular information about the Σ-p --> Λ n reaction was obtained for the first time by detecting approximately 100 reaction events at each angular step of Δcosθ = 0.1. The obtained differential cross sections show slightly forward-peaking structure in the measured momentum regions. The cross sections integrated for -0.7 < cosθ < 1.0 were obtained as 22.5 +- 0.68 (stat.) +- 0.65 (syst.) mb and 15.8 +-0.83(stat.) +- 0.52 (syst.) mb for 470<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<550 and 550<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<650, respectively. These results show a drastic improvement compared to past measurements of the hyperon-proton scattering experiments. They will play essential roles in updating the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

The near-Earth asteroid (162173) Ryugu displays a Cb-type average spectrum and a very low average normal albedo of 0.04. Although the majority of boulders on Ryugu have reflectance spectra and albedo similar to the Ryugu average, a small fraction of boulders exhibit anomalously high albedo and distinctively different spectra. A previous study (Tatsumi et al., 2021) based on the 2.7-km observations and a series of low-altitude (down to 68 m) descent observations conducted prior to the first touchdown have shown that the spectra of these anomalous boulders can be classified into two distinct groups corresponding to S and C type asteroids. The former originate most likely from an impactor that collided with Ryugu's parent body, whereas the latter may be from portions of Ryugu's parent body that experienced a different temperature history than experienced by the majority of boulder materials. In this study, we analyzed images captured after the first touchdown to determine the quantitative properties of these bright boulders on Ryugu. We measured the sizes of more than a thousand bright boulders and characterized the morphologic properties of the largest ones. Analyses revealed many properties of bright boulders important for the evolution of Ryugu and its parent body. The size-frequency distributions of S- and C-type bright boulders follow power laws. We obtained the ratios of the total volume and surface area of S-type bright boulders to those of average dark boulders on the Ryugu surface. Also, many of the bright boulders are embedded in a larger substrate boulder, suggesting that they have experienced mixing and conglomeration with darker fragments on the parent body, rather than gently landing on Ryugu during or after its formation by reaccumulation. This is consistent with the hypothesis that S-type bright boulders were likely mixed during and/or before a catastrophic disruption.

Many small boulders with reflectance values higher than 1.5 times the average reflectance have been found on the near-Earth asteroid 162173 Ryugu. Based on their visible wavelength spectral differences, Tatsumi et al. (2021) defined two bright boulder classes: C-type and S-type. These two classifications of bright boulders have different size distributions and spectral trends. In this study, we measured the spectra of 79 bright boulders and investigated their detailed spectral properties. Analyses obtained a number of important results. First, S-type bright boulders on Ryugu have spectra that are similar to those found for two different ordinary chondrites with different initial spectra that have been experimentally space weathered the same way. This suggests that there may be two populations of S-type bright boulders on Ryugu, perhaps originating from two different impactors that hit its parent body. Second, the model space-weathering ages of meter-size S-type bright boulders, based on spectral change rates derived in previous experimentally irradiated ordinary chondrites, are 0.1-1 Myr, which is consistent with the crater retention age (<Myr) of the ~1-m deep surface layer on Ryugu. This agreement strongly suggests that the Ryugu surface is extremely young, implying that the samples acquired from the Ryugu surface should be fresh. Third, the lack of a serpentine absorption in the S-type clast embedded in one of the large brecciated boulders indicates that fragmentation and cementation that created the breccias occurred after the termination of aqueous alteration. Fourth, C-type bright boulders exhibit a continuous spectral trend similar to the heating track of low-albedo carbonaceous chondrites, such as CM and CI. Other processes, such as space weathering and grain size effects, cannot primarily account for their spectral variation.

In this study, we developed a new proton detector system called CATCH, which was designed for a scattering experiment involving a $Σ$ hyperon and a proton (J-PARC E40). CATCH is a cylindrical detector system covering an inner target that can be used to measure the trajectory and energy of a proton emitted from the target for the kinematic identification of a $Σ$p scattering event. It comprises a cylindrical fiber tracker (CFT), a bismuth germanate (BGO) calorimeter, and a plastic scintillator hodoscope (PiID), which are coaxially arranged from the inner to the outer sides. The CFT is a tracking detector consisting of 5,000 scintillation fibers, and it has two types of cylindrical layers in which the fibers are arranged in straight and spiral configurations. 24 BGO crystals are placed around the CFT to measure the kinetic energy of the recoil proton. The PiID is used to determine whether the recoil proton is stopped in the BGO calorimeter. We performed proton-proton (pp) and proton-carbon (pC) scattering experiments using an 80 MeV proton beam to evaluate the performance of CATCH. The total energy resolution for the recoil proton was 2.8 MeV in $σ$ for the entire angular region after the energy calibrations of the BGO calorimeter and the CFT. The angular resolution of the CFT was 1.27 degrees in $σ$ for the proton, and the time resolution was more than 1.8 ns in $σ$. We also developed an analysis method for deriving the cross section of the pp scattering using CATCH. The obtained relative differential cross section for the pp elastic scattering was consistent with that obtained by reliable partial wave analysis, and the systematic error was maintained at below 10%. These performance results satisfy our requirements for a reliable detection system for the $Σ$p scattering experiment conducted at J-PARC .

A high statistics $Σp$ scattering experiment has been performed at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Data for momentum-tagged $Σ^{-}$ running in a liquid hydrogen target were accumulated by detecting the $π^{-}p \to K^{+}Σ^{-}$ reaction with a high intensity $π^{-}$ beam of 20 M/spill. Differential cross sections of the $Σ^{-}p$ elastic scattering were derived with a drastically improved accuracy by identifying the largest statistics of about 4,500 events from 1.72 $\times$ $10^{7}$ $Σ^{-}$. The derived differential cross section shows a clear forward-peaking angular distribution for a $Σ^{-}$ momentum range from 470 to 850 MeV/$c$. The accurate data will impose a strong constraint on the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

J-PARC E16 is an experiment to examine the origin of hadron mass through a systematic measurement of spectral changes of vector mesons in nuclei. The measurement of $e^{+}e^{-}$ pairs from the decay of vector mesons will provide the information of the partial restoration of the chiral symmetry in a normal nuclear density. To resolve a pulse pile-up and achieve good discrimination of $e^{\pm}$ from the background of a reaction rate of an order of 10 MHz, the data acquisition (DAQ) system uses waveform sampling chips of APV25 and DRS4. The trigger rate and data rate are expected to be 1 kHz and 130--330 MiB/s, respectively. The DAQ system for readout of APV25 and DRS4 were developed, where events were synchronized by common trigger and tag data. The first commissioning in beam, called Run-0a, was performed in June 2020 with about 1/4 of the designed setup. The DAQ worked with a trigger rate of 300 Hz in the Run-0a and the main bottleneck was a large data size of APV25. Further optimization of the DAQ system will improve the performance.

The height of the needles in the form-birefringent region following 15~min etching was $d\sim 200$ nm and had a 100 $μ$m width of the optical retardance/birefringence, characterised using polariscopy. The height of the b-Si needles corresponds closely to the skin-depth of Si $\simλ/4$ for the visible spectral range. Reflection-type polariscope with a voltage-controlled liquid-crystal retarder is proposed to directly measure the retardance $Δn\times d/λ\approx 0.15$ of the region with tilted b-Si needles. The quantified form birefringence of $Δn = - 0.45$ over $λ= 400-700$~nm spectral window was obtained. Such high values of $Δn$ at visible wavelengths can only be observed in the most birefringence calcite or barium borate as well as in liquid crystals. The replication of b-Si into Ni-shim with high fidelity was also demonstrated and can be used for imprinting of the b-Si nanopattern into other materials.

162173 Ryugu, the target of Hayabusa2, has a round shape with an equatorial ridge, which is known as a spinning top-shape. A strong centrifugal force is a likely contributor to Ryugu's top-shaped features. Observations by Optical Navigation Camera onboard Hayabusa2 show a unique longitudinal variation in geomorphology; the western side of this asteroid, later called the western bulge, has a smooth surface and a sharp equatorial ridge, compared to the other side. Here, we propose a structural deformation process that generated the western bulge. Applying the mission-derived shape model, we employ a finite element model technique to analyze the locations that experience structural failure within the present shape. Assuming that materials are uniformly distributed, our model shows the longitudinal variation in structurally failed regions when the spin period is shorter than ~3.75 h. Ryugu is structurally intact in the subsurface region of the western bulge while other regions are sensitive to structural failure. We infer that this variation is indicative of the deformation process that occurred in the past, and the western bulge is more relaxed structurally than the other region. Our analysis also shows that this deformation process might occur at a spin period between ~3.5 h and ~3.0 h, providing the cohesive strength ranging between ~4 Pa and ~10 Pa.

Results: Nanoscale optical and structural properties of silk have been measured from 100-nm thick longitudinal slices of silk fibers with ~10 nm resolution, the highest so far. Optical sub-wavelength resolution in hyperspectral mapping of absorbance and molecular orientation were carried out for comparison at IR wavelengths 2-10 micrometers using synchrotron radiation. Conclusion: Reliable distinction of transmission changes by only 1-2% due to anisotropy of amide bands was obtained from nano-thin slices of silk.

Domain structure of paracetamol -- popular antipyretic analgesic -- was investigated by infrared (IR) spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation. Absorbance and retardance maps reveal molecular orientation inside the micro-domains of the paracetamol form II which has a better water solubility and compressibility compared to the commercially used forms I. The developed method of analysis representing orientation of optical slow(fast)-axis is compared with azimuthal orientation of the absorbance at several specific IR bands using vector maps. High brightness of synchrotron radiation and hyper-spectral mapping of structural domains in paracetamol clearly reveals the domain boundaries and can potentially be used to observe \emph{in situ} intra-phase transformations of paracetamol forms-I, II, III and melting, which are important for making medical tablets and powders by an industrial process.

We have experimentally investigated the transitions of collective motions of bacterial cells in a shallow circular pool using the bacterial species $Bacillus$ $subtilis$. In our previous paper, we reported that the collective motions were classified into six phases on a phase diagram with two parameters, namely, the reduced cell length $λ$ and the cell density $ρ$. In this study, we focused on the sharp transitions at $λ\cong0.1$ ($\equiv λ_{\rm C1}$) with low values of $ρ$ between the $random$ $motion$ phase and the $one$-$way$ $rotational$ $motion$ phase. By introducing the order parameter $Q$ which measures the aligned cell motion along the circumferential direction of a pool, the transitions at $λ=λ_{\rm C1}$ were clearly characterized. On the basis of the detailed observations of single-cell trajectories in a pool, we verified that the effect of cell$-$noise interactions was widely distributed. We conclude that, even in such random environment, the sharp transitions of collective motions were caused by the cell$-$cell interactions at $λ=λ_{\rm C1}$.

The Optical Navigation Camera (ONC-T, ONC-W1, ONC-W2) onboard Hayabusa2 are also being used for scientific observations of the mission target, C-complex asteroid 162173 Ryugu. Science observations and analyses require rigorous instrument calibration. In order to meet this requirement, we have conducted extensive inflight observations during the 3.5 years of cruise after the launch of Hayabusa2 on 3 December 2014. In addition to the first inflight calibrations by Suzuki et al. (2018), we conducted an additional series of calibrations, including read-out smear, electronic-interference noise, bias, dark current, hot pixels, sensitivity, linearity, flat-field, and stray light measurements for the ONC. Moreover, the calibrations, especially flat-fields and sensitivities, of ONC-W1 and -W2 are updated for the analysis of the low-altitude (i.e., high-resolution) observations, such as the gravity measurement, touchdowns, and the descents for MASCOT and MINERVA-II payload releases. The radiometric calibration for ONC-T is also updated in this study based on star and Moon observations. Our updated inflight sensitivity measurements suggest the accuracy of the absolute radiometric calibration contains less than 1.8% error for the ul-, b-, v-, Na-, w-, and x-bands based on star calibration observations and ~5% for the p-band based on lunar calibration observations. The radiance spectra of the Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn from the ONC-T show good agreement with the spacecraft-based observations of the Moon from SP/SELENE and WAC/LROC and with ground-based telescopic observations for Jupiter and Saturn.

A polarised light imaging microscopy with an addition of liquid crystal (LC) phase retarder was implemented to determine the birefringence of silk fibers with the high 2 micrometers spatial resolution. The measurement was carried out with silk fiber (the optical slow axis) and the slow axis of the LC retarder set parallel (a perpendicular alignment can also be used). The direct fit of the transmission data provides a high fidelity determination of birefringence, $Dn = 1.63\times 10^{-2}$ (with 2% uncertainty) of the brown silk fiber (Antheraea pernyi) averaged over the wavelength range $l =$ (425-625) nm. By measuring retardance at four wavelengths it was possible to determine the true value of the birefringence of a thick sample when an optical path may include large number of wavelengths ($2p$ cycles in phase). The numerical procedures and required hardware are described for the do-it-yourself assembly of the imaging polariscope at a fractional budget compared with commercial units.

The excitation energies of the $5/2^{+}$ and $1/2^{-}$ states are determined to be $\rm 895.2 \pm 0.3 (stat) \pm 0.5 (syst)~keV$ and $\rm 1265.6 \pm 1.2 (stat) ^{+0.7}_{-0.5} (syst)~keV$, respectively. It is found that the ground state doublet spacing is well described by theoretical models based on existing $s$- and $p$-shell hypernuclear data.

We study phenomenologically inclusive spectra of the $^6$Li($π^-$, $K^+$) reaction at 1.2 GeV/$c$ within a distorted-wave impulse approximation with the optimal Fermi-averaging $π^- p \to K^+ Σ^-$ $t$ matrix. We attempt to clarify the property of a $Σ$-nucleus potential for $Σ^-$-$^5$He by comparing the calculated spectra with the data of the J-PARC E10 experiment. The result shows that the repulsive and absorptive components of the $Σ^-$-$^5$He potential provide the ability to explain the data of the continuum spectra in $Σ$ and $Λ$ regions; the strengths of $V_Σ\simeq$ +30 MeV and $W_Σ\simeq$ $-$26 MeV are favored within the Woods-Saxon potential, consistent with analyses for heavier nuclei. Effects of the size and potential range for $Σ^-$-$^5$He in the neutron excess of $(N-Z)/(N+Z)=$ 0.2 are also discussed.

No event was observed below the bound threshold, i.e., the mass of ${}^{4}_Λ$H + 2n, in the missing-mass spectrum of the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X reaction in the $2^{\circ}$ < $θ_{πK}$ < $20^{\circ}$ angular range. Furthermore, no event was found up to 2.8 MeV/$c^2$ above the bound threshold. We obtained the the double-differential cross section spectra of the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X reaction in the angular range of $2^{\circ}$ < $θ_{πK}$ < $14^{\circ}$. An upper limit of 0.56 nb/sr (90% C.L.) was obtained for the production cross section of the ${}^{6}_Λ$H hypernucleus bound state. In addition, not only the bound state region, but also the $Λ$ continuum region and part of the $Σ^{-}$ quasi-free production region of the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X reaction, were obtained with high statistics. The present missing-mass spectrum will facilitate the investigation of the $Σ^{-}$-nucleus optical potential for $Σ^{-}$-${}^{5}$He through spectrum shape analysis.

In comparison to the corresponding energy spacing in the mirror hypernucleus $^4_Λ$H, the present result clearly indicates the existence of charge symmetry breaking (CSB) in $ΛN$ interaction. It is also found that the CSB effect is large in the $0^+$ ground state but is by one order of magnitude smaller in the $1^+$ excited state, demonstrating that the $ΛN$ CSB interaction has spin dependence.

Under hard-agar and nutrient-rich conditions, a cell of $Bacillus$ $subtilis$ grows as a single filament owing to the failure of cell separation after each growth and division cycle. The self-elongating filament of cells shows sequential folding processes, and multifold structures extend over an agar plate. We report that the growth process from the exponential phase to the stationary phase is well described by the time evolution of fractal dimensions of the filament configuration. We propose a method of characterizing filament configurations using a set of lengths of multifold parts of a filament. Systems of differential equations are introduced to describe the folding processes that create multifold structures in the early stage of the growth process. We show that the fitting of experimental data to the solutions of equations is excellent, and the parameters involved in our model systems are determined.,

Therefore, coincidence of high-momentum ($>$ 250~MeV/$c$) proton(s) in large emission angles ($39^\circ<θ_{lab.}<122^\circ$) was requested to enhance the signal-to-background ratio. A broad enhancement in the proton coincidence spectra are observed around the missing-mass of 2.27 GeV/$c^2$, which corresponds to the $K^-pp$ binding energy of 95 $^{+18}_{-17}$ (stat.) $^{+30}_{-21}$ (syst.) We have measured an inclusive missing-mass spectrum of the $d(π^+, K^+)$ reaction at the pion incident momentum of 1.69 GeV/$c$ at the laboratory scattering angles between 2$^\circ$ and 16$^\circ$ with the missing-mass resolution of 2.7 $\pm$ 0.1 MeV/$c^2$ (FWHM) at the missing mass of 2.27 GeV/$c^{2}$. In this Letter, we first try to understand the spectrum as a simple quasi-free picture based on several known elementary cross sections, considering the neutron/proton Fermi motion in deuteron. While gross spectrum structures are well understood in this picture, we have observed two distinct deviations; one peculiar enhancement at 2.13 GeV/$c^2$ is due to the $ΣN$ cusp, and the other notable feature is a shift of a broad bump structure, mainly originating from hyperon resonance productions of $Λ(1405)$ and $Σ(1385)^{+/0}$, by about 22.4 $\pm$ 0.4 (stat.) $^{+2.7}_{-1.7}$ (syst.) MeV/$c^2$ toward the low-mass side, which is calculated in the kinematics of a proton at rest as the target.

The systematic uncertainty of the upper limits was controlled within 10\%. Constraints on the $Θ^+$ decay width were also evaluated with a theoretical calculation using effective Lagrangian. The present result implies that the width should be less than 0.36 and 1.9 MeV for the spin-parity of $1/2^+$ and $1/2^-$, respectively.

A study of the $^2$H$(γ,Λ)$X reaction was performed using a tagged photon beam at the Research Center for Electron Photon Science (ELPH), Tohoku University. The photoproduced $Λ$ was measured in the $p{π^{-}}$ decay channel by the upgraded Neutral Kaon Spectrometer (NKS2+). The momentum integrated differential cross section was determined as a function of the scatting angle of $Λ$ in the laboratory frame for five energy bins. Our results indicated a peak in the cross section at angles smaller than cos$θ^{LAB}_Λ$ = $0.96$. The experimentally obtained angular distributions were compared to isobar models, Kaon-Maid (KM) and Saclay-Lyon A (SLA), in addition to the composite Regge-plus-resonance (RPR) model. Both SLA(r$K_{1}K_γ$ = $-1.4$) and RPR describe the data quite well in contrast to the KM model, which substantially under predicted the cross section at the most forward angles. With the anticipated finalized data on $Λ$ integrated and momentum dependent differential cross sections of $^2$H$(γ,Λ)$X~\cite{Kaneta_Beckford}, we present our findings on the angular distributions in this report.

An experiment designed to investigate the strangeness photoproduction process using a tagged photon beam in the energy range of 0.90 -1.08 GeV incident on a liquid deuterium target was successfully performed. The purpose of the experiment was to measure the production of neutral kaons and the lambda particles on a deuteron. The generation of photo produced particles was verified by the measurement of their decayed charged particles in the Neutral Kaon Spectrometer 2. The reconstructed invariant mass distributions were achieved by selecting events where two or more particles tracks were identified. Preliminary results are presented here.

We have developed a method 'time-frequency (TF) clustering' to find the burst gravitational waves for TAMA data analysis. TF clustering method on sonogram (spectrogram) shows some characteristics of short duration signal. Using parameters which represent the cluster shape, we can efficiently identify some predicted gravitational wave forms and can exclude typical unstable spike like noises due to detector instruments. The requirement of some parameters of cluster achieved roughly 50% average efficiency for injected DFM waveforms of $h_{rss}\sim 2 \times 10^{-19}$ for type I burst. Also the reduction for signal by spike noises are more than one order improvement for the SNR$>$100.
