Competitive programming platforms like LeetCode, Codeforces, and HackerRank evaluate programming skills, often used by recruiters for screening. With the rise of advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Meta AI, their problem-solving ability on these platforms needs assessment. This study explores LLMs' ability to tackle diverse programming challenges across platforms with varying difficulty, offering insights into their real-time and offline performance and comparing them with human programmers.
We tested 98 problems from LeetCode, 126 from Codeforces, covering 15 categories. Nine online contests from Codeforces and LeetCode were conducted, along with two certification tests on HackerRank, to assess real-time performance. Prompts and feedback mechanisms were used to guide LLMs, and correlations were explored across different scenarios.
LLMs, like ChatGPT (71.43% success on LeetCode), excelled in LeetCode and HackerRank certifications but struggled in virtual contests, particularly on Codeforces. They performed better than users in LeetCode archives, excelling in time and memory efficiency but underperforming in harder Codeforces contests. While not immediately threatening, LLMs performance on these platforms is concerning, and future improvements will need addressing.

The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13\,\text{TeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\,\text{fb}^{-1}$, recorded by the~$\text{LHCb}$ experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the $Ξ_{c}(3055)^{+(0)}$ baryons is determined to be $3/2^{+}$ with a significance of more than $6.5σ$ ($3.5σ$) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the ${Ξ_{b}^{0(-)}\toΞ_{c}(3055)^{+(0)}π^{-}}$ transitions are measured to be $-0.92\pm0.10\pm0.05$ ($-0.92\pm0.16\pm0.22$), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the $Ξ_{c}(3055)^{+(0)}$ baryons correspond to the first $D$-wave $λ$-mode excitation of the $Ξ_{c}$ flavor triplet.

They are performed by requiring both muons to be in the LHCb acceptance (with pseudorapidity $2<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5$) and mesons in the rapidity range $2.0 < y < 4.5$. The integrated cross-section results are \begin{equation*}
σ_{J/ψ\toμ^+μ^-}(2.0<y_{J/ψ}<4.5,2.0<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5) = 400 \pm 2 \pm 5 \pm 12 \,{\rm pb}\,,
\end{equation*} \begin{equation*}
σ_{ψ(2S)\toμ^+μ^-}(2.0<y_{ψ(2S)}<4.5,2.0<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5) = 9.40 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.27 \,{\rm pb}\,, \end{equation*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the luminosity determination. In addition, a measurement of the ratio of $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ cross-sections, at an average photon-proton centre-of-mass energy of 1 TeV, is performed, giving \begin{equation*}
\frac{σ_{ψ(2S)}}{σ_{J/ψ}} = 0.1763 \pm 0.0029 \pm 0.0008 \pm 0.0039 \,, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the knowledge of the involved branching fractions. For the first time, the dependence of the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ cross-sections on the total transverse momentum transfer is determined in $pp$ collisions and is found consistent with the behaviour observed in electron-proton collisions.

In ${B^0}\rightarrow{D^{+}D^{-}}$ decays the $CP$-violation parameters are measured to be \begin{align}
S_{D^{+}D^{-}} & = -0.552 \pm 0.100\,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.010\,\text{(syst)}, \nonumber \newline
C_{D^{+}D^{-}} & = \phantom{-}0.128 \pm0.103\,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.010\,\text{(syst)}. \nonumber \end{align} In $B^{0}_{s} \rightarrow D^{+}_{s}D^{-}_{s}$ decays the $CP$-violating parameter formulation in terms of $φ_{s}$ and $|λ|$ results in \begin{align}
φ_{s} & = -0.086 \pm 0.106 \,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.028\,\text{(syst)} \,\text{rad}, \nonumber \newline
|λ_{D^{+}_{s}D^{-}_{s}}| & = \phantom{-}1.145 \pm 0.126\,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.031\,\text{(syst)}. \nonumber \end{align} These results represent the most precise single measurement of the $CP$-violation parameters in their respective channels. For the first time in a single measurement, $CP$ symmetry is observed to be violated in ${B^0}\rightarrow{D^{+}D^{-}}$ decays with a significance exceeding six standard deviations.

The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity ($C\!P$) asymmetries are measured, with no significant $C\!P$ violation observed. For the first time, the $\itΛ^\mathrm{0}_b \to \itΛ_c^+ h^-$ decay parameters are measured. The most precise measurements of the decay parameters $α, β$ and $γ$ are obtained for $\itΛ_c^+$ decays and an independent measurement of the decay parameters for the strange-baryon $\itΛ$ decay is provided. The results deepen our understanding of weak decay dynamics in baryon decays.

Quantum circuits constitute Intellectual Property (IP) of the quantum developers and users, which needs to be protected from theft by adversarial agents, e.g., the quantum cloud provider or a rogue adversary present in the cloud. This necessitates the exploration of low-overhead techniques applicable to near-term quantum devices, to trace the quantum circuits/algorithms\textquotesingle{} IP and their output. We present two such lightweight watermarking techniques to prove ownership in the event of an adversary cloning the circuit design. For the first technique, a rotation gate is placed on ancilla qubits combined with other gate(s) at the output of the circuit. For the second method, a set of random gates are inserted in the middle of the circuit followed by its inverse, separated from the circuit by a barrier. These models are combined and applied on benchmark circuits, and the circuit depth, 2-qubit gate count, probability of successful trials (PST), and probabilistic proof of authorship (PPA) are compared against the state-of-the-art. The PST is reduced by a minuscule 0.53\% against the non-watermarked benchmarks and is up to 22.69\% higher compared to existing techniques. The circuit depth has been reduced by up to 27.7\% as against the state-of-the-art. The PPA is astronomically smaller than existing watermarks.

A novel model-independent technique is used to compare the $D^+$ and $D^-$ phase-space distributions, with instrumental asymmetries subtracted using the $D^+_{s}\rightarrow K^-K^+π^+$ decay as a control channel. The $p$-value for the hypothesis of $C\!P$ conservation is $8.1\%$. The $C\!P$ asymmetry observables $A_{C\!P|S}^{φπ^+} = (0.95 \pm 0.43_{stat} \pm 0.26_{syst})\times 10^{-3}$ and $A_{C\!P|S}^{\overline{K}^{*0}K^+} = (-0.26 \pm 0.56_{ stat} \pm 0.18_{syst})\times 10^{-3}$ are also measured. These results show no evidence of $C\!P$ violation and represent the most sensitive search performed through the phase space of a multibody decay.

Human activity recognition (HAR) holds immense potential for transforming health and fitness monitoring, yet challenges persist in achieving personalized outcomes and sustainability for on-device continuous inferences. This work introduces a wrist-worn smart band designed to address these challenges through a novel combination of on-device TinyML-driven computing and cloud-enabled auto-deployment. Leveraging inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors and a customized 1D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for personalized HAR, users can tailor activity classes to their unique movement styles with minimal calibration. By utilising TinyML for local computations, the smart band reduces the necessity for constant data transmission and radio communication, which in turn lowers power consumption and reduces carbon footprint. This method also enhances the privacy and security of user data by limiting its transmission. Through transfer learning and fine-tuning on user-specific data, the system achieves a 37\% increase in accuracy over generalized models in personalized settings. Evaluation using three benchmark datasets, WISDM, PAMAP2, and the BandX demonstrates its effectiveness across various activity domains. Additionally, this work presents a cloud-supported framework for the automatic deployment of TinyML models to remote wearables, enabling seamless customization and on-device inference, even with limited target data. By combining personalized HAR with sustainable strategies for on-device continuous inferences, this system represents a promising step towards fostering healthier and more sustainable societies worldwide.

In this work, we present TinyTNAS, a novel hardware-aware multi-objective Neural Architecture Search (NAS) tool specifically designed for TinyML time series classification. Unlike traditional NAS methods that rely on GPU capabilities, TinyTNAS operates efficiently on CPUs, making it accessible for a broader range of applications. Users can define constraints on RAM, FLASH, and MAC operations to discover optimal neural network architectures within these parameters. Additionally, the tool allows for time-bound searches, ensuring the best possible model is found within a user-specified duration. By experimenting with benchmark dataset UCI HAR, PAMAP2, WISDM, MIT BIH, and PTB Diagnostic ECG Databas TinyTNAS demonstrates state-of-the-art accuracy with significant reductions in RAM, FLASH, MAC usage, and latency. For example, on the UCI HAR dataset, TinyTNAS achieves a 12x reduction in RAM usage, a 144x reduction in MAC operations, and a 78x reduction in FLASH memory while maintaining superior accuracy and reducing latency by 149x. Similarly, on the PAMAP2 and WISDM datasets, it achieves a 6x reduction in RAM usage, a 40x reduction in MAC operations, an 83x reduction in FLASH, and a 67x reduction in latency, all while maintaining superior accuracy. Notably, the search process completes within 10 minutes in a CPU environment. These results highlight TinyTNAS's capability to optimize neural network architectures effectively for resource-constrained TinyML applications, ensuring both efficiency and high performance. The code for TinyTNAS is available at the GitHub repository and can be accessed at https://github.com/BidyutSaha/TinyTNAS.git.

We investigate the magnetic and conduction properties of Kane-Mele Hubbard model in quasi one-dimensional honeycomb ribbon systems at half-filling by varying the strength of both spin-orbit interaction and on-site Coulomb correlation term. We use the numerical many-body configuration interaction (CI) method to investigate the dispersions of charge and spin gaps along with the momentum resolved spin-density profile over the full Brillouin zone. While the spin sector retains its topological nature at all values of spin-orbit coupling and Hubbard term, we report a new signature of the topological phase transition in the charge sector. This phase transition from a topological band insulating phase to a antiferromagnetically ordered Mott insulating phase is characterized by a shift of the many-body charge gap minima from Brillouin zone boundary to Dirac point. Our results provide a better understanding of the shifting of the gap-closing point in the momentum space which was reported in an earlier mean-field study of the same model and suggests an alternative numerical route to detect topological phase transition in strongly-correlated systems in terms of their momentum space behaviors.

We present optical and near-infrared observations of two Type Ibn supernovae (SNe), SN 2018jmt and SN 2019cj. Their light curves have rise times of about 10 days, reaching an absolute peak magnitude of $M_g$(SN 2018jmt) = $-$19.07 $\pm$ 0.37 and $M_V$(SN 2019cj) = $-$18.94 $\pm$ 0.19 mag, respectively. The early-time spectra of SN 2018jmt are dominated by a blue continuum, accompanied by narrow (600$-$1000 km~s$^{-1}$) He I lines with P-Cygni profile. At later epochs, the spectra become more similar to those of the prototypical SN Ibn 2006jc. At early phases, the spectra of SN 2019cj show flash ionisation emission lines of C III, N III and He II superposed on a blue continuum. These features disappear after a few days, and then the spectra of SN 2019cj evolve similarly to those of SN 2018jmt. The spectra indicate that the two SNe exploded within a He-rich circumstellar medium (CSM) lost by the progenitors a short time before the explosion. We model the light curves of the two SNe Ibn to constrain the progenitor and the explosion parameters. The ejecta masses are consistent with either that expected for a canonical SN Ib ($\sim$ 2 M$_{\odot}$) or those from a massive WR star ($>$ $\sim$ 4 M$_{\odot}$), with the kinetic energy on the order of $10^{51}$ erg. The lower limit on the ejecta mass ($>$ $\sim$ 2 M$_{\odot}$) argues against a scenario involving a relatively low-mass progenitor (e.g., $M_{ZAMS}$ $\sim$ 10 M$_{\odot}$). We set a conservative upper limit of $\sim$0.1 M$_{\odot}$ for the $^{56}$Ni masses in both SNe. From the light curve modelling, we determine a two-zone CSM distribution, with an inner, flat CSM component, and an outer CSM with a steeper density profile. The physical properties of SN 2018jmt and SN 2019cj are consistent with those expected from the core collapse of relatively massive, stripped-envelope (SE) stars.

We consider the problem of learning temporal logic formulas from examples of system behavior. Learning temporal properties has crystallized as an effective mean to explain complex temporal behaviors. Several efficient algorithms have been designed for learning temporal formulas. However, the theoretical understanding of the complexity of the learning decision problems remains largely unexplored. To address this, we study the complexity of the passive learning problems of three prominent temporal logics, Linear Temporal Logic (LTL), Computation Tree Logic (CTL) and Alternating-time Temporal Logic (ATL) and several of their fragments. We show that learning formulas using an unbounded amount of occurrences of binary operators is NP-complete for all of these logics. On the other hand, when investigating the complexity of learning formulas with bounded amount of occurrences of binary operators, we exhibit discrepancies between the complexity of learning LTL, CTL and ATL formulas (with a varying number of agents).

First we focus on the evolution of the most prominent spectral features observed in the low resolution spectra, then we discuss more in detail the high resolution spectrum collected for NGC 300 2008OT-1 with the Very Large Telescope equipped with UVES. Finally we analyse late time spectra of NGC 300 2008OT-1 and AT 2019ahd through comparisons with both synthetic and observed spectra. Balmer and Ca lines dominate the optical spectra, revealing the presence of slowly moving circumstellar medium (CSM) around the objects. The line luminosity of H$α$, H$β$ and Ca II NIR triplet presents a double peaked evolution with time, possibly indicative of interaction between fast ejecta and the slow CSM. The high resolution spectrum of NGC 300 2008OT-1 reveals a complex circumstellar environment, with the transient being surrounded by a slow ($\sim$30 km s$^{-1}$) progenitor wind. At late epochs, optical spectra of NGC 300 2008OT-1 and AT 2019ahd show broad ($\sim$2500 km s$^{-1}$) emission features at $\sim$6170 A and $\sim$7000 A which are unprecedented for ILRTs. We find that these lines originate most likely from the blending of several narrow lines, possibly of iron-peak elements.

We investigate the photometric characteristics of a sample of Intermediate Luminosity Red Transients (ILRTs), a class of elusive objects with peak luminosity between that of classical novae and standard supernovae. We present the multi-wavelength photometric follow-up of four ILRTs, namely NGC 300 2008OT-1, AT 2019abn, AT 2019ahd and AT 2019udc. Through the analysis and modelling of their spectral energy distribution and bolometric light curves we infer the physical parameters associated with these transients. All four objects display a single peaked light curve which ends in a linear decline in magnitudes at late phases. A flux excess with respect to a single black body emission is detected in the infrared domain for three objects in our sample, a few months after maximum. This feature, commonly found in ILRTs, is interpreted as a sign of dust formation. Mid infrared monitoring of NGC 300 2008OT-1 761 days after maximum allows us to infer the presence of $\sim$10$^{-3}$-10$^{-5}$ M$_{\odot}$ of dust, depending on the chemical composition and the grain size adopted. The late time decline of the bolometric light curves of the considered ILRTs is shallower than expected for $^{56}$Ni decay, hence requiring an additional powering mechanism. James Webb Space Telescope observations of AT 2019abn prove that the object has faded below its progenitor luminosity in the mid-infrared domain, five years after its peak. Together with the disappearance of NGC 300 2008OT-1 in Spitzer images seven years after its discovery, this supports the terminal explosion scenario for ILRTs. With a simple semi-analytical model we try to reproduce the observed bolometric light curves in the context of few M$_{\odot}$ of material ejected at few 10$^{3}$ km s$^{-1}$ and enshrouded in an optically thick circumstellar medium.

A measurement of the time-dependent ratio of the $D^0\rightarrow K^+π^-$ to $\overline{D}^0\rightarrow K^+π^-$ decay rates is reported. The analysis uses a sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb$^-1$ recorded by the LHCb experiment from 2015 through 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The $D^0$ meson is required to originate from a $D^{*+}\rightarrow D^0π^+$ decay, such that its flavor at production is inferred from the charge of the accompanying pion. The measurement is performed simultaneously for the $K^+π^-$ and $K^-π^+$ final states, allowing both mixing and $CP$-violation parameters to be determined. The value of the ratio of the decay rates at production is determined to be $R_{Kπ} = (343.1 \pm 2.0) \times 10^{-5}$. The mixing parameters are measured to be $c_{Kπ} = (51.4 \pm 3.5) \times 10^{-4}$ and $c_{Kπ}^{\prime} = (13 \pm 4) \times 10^{-6}$, where $\sqrt{R_{Kπ}}c_{Kπ}$ is the linear coefficient of the expansion of the ratio as a function of decay time in units of the $D^0$ lifetime, and $c_{Kπ}^{\prime}$ is the quadratic coefficient, both averaged between the $K^+π^-$ and $K^-π^+$ final states. The precision is improved relative to the previous best measurement by approximately 60%. No evidence for $CP$ violation is found.

The first full amplitude analysis of $B^+ \to ψ(2S) K^+ π^+ π^-$ decays is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ recorded with the LHCb detector. The rich $K^+ π^+ π^-$ spectrum is studied and the branching fractions of the resonant substructure associated with the prominent $K_1(1270)^+$ contribution are measured. The data cannot be described by conventional strange and charmonium resonances only. An amplitude model with 53 components is developed comprising 11 hidden-charm exotic hadrons. New production mechanisms for charged charmonium-like states are observed. Significant resonant activity with spin-parity $J^P = 1^+$ in the $ψ(2S) π^+$ system is confirmed and a multi-pole structure is demonstrated. The spectral decomposition of the $ψ(2S) π^+ π^-$ invariant-mass structure, dominated by $X^0 \to ψ(2S) ρ(770)^0$ decays, broadly resembles the $J/ψφ$ spectrum observed in $B^+ \to J/ψφK^+$ decays. Exotic $ψ(2S) K^+ π^-$ resonances are observed for the first time.

We address the problem of learning temporal properties from the branching-time behavior of systems. Existing research in this field has mostly focused on learning linear temporal properties specified using popular logics, such as Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) and Signal Temporal Logic (STL). Branching-time logics such as Computation Tree Logic (CTL) and Alternating-time Temporal Logic (ATL), despite being extensively used in specifying and verifying distributed and multi-agent systems, have not received adequate attention. Thus, in this paper, we investigate the problem of learning CTL and ATL formulas from examples of system behavior. As input to the learning problems, we rely on the typical representations of branching behavior as Kripke structures and concurrent game structures, respectively. Given a sample of structures, we learn concise formulas by encoding the learning problem into a satisfiability problem, most notably by symbolically encoding both the search for prospective formulas and their fixed-point based model checking algorithms. We also study the decision problem of checking the existence of prospective ATL formulas for a given sample. We implement our algorithms in an Python prototype and have evaluated them to extract several common CTL and ATL formulas used in practical applications.

{Γ_{χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ}} = 1.67 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.12 \pm0.04 , $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ mesons. The measured ratio makes the interpretation of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state as a~pure $D^0\bar{D}^{*0}+\bar{D}^0D^{*0}$ molecule questionable and strongly indicates a sizeable compact charmonium or tetraquark component within the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state.

Multiplying by the world-average value of the $Λ^0_b$ lifetime yields $τ_{Ξ^-_b}^{\rm Run~1,2} = 1.578\pm0.018\pm0.010\pm0.011$ ps, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited knowledge of the $Λ^0_b$ lifetime. This measurement improves the precision of the current world average of the $Ξ^-_b$ lifetime by about a factor of two, and is in good agreement with the most recent theoretical predictions.

We release the Nemotron-4 340B model family, including Nemotron-4-340B-Base, Nemotron-4-340B-Instruct, and Nemotron-4-340B-Reward. Our models are open access under the NVIDIA Open Model License Agreement, a permissive model license that allows distribution, modification, and use of the models and its outputs. These models perform competitively to open access models on a wide range of evaluation benchmarks, and were sized to fit on a single DGX H100 with 8 GPUs when deployed in FP8 precision. We believe that the community can benefit from these models in various research studies and commercial applications, especially for generating synthetic data to train smaller language models. Notably, over 98% of data used in our model alignment process is synthetically generated, showcasing the effectiveness of these models in generating synthetic data. To further support open research and facilitate model development, we are also open-sourcing the synthetic data generation pipeline used in our model alignment process.

Satellite remote sensing missions have gained popularity over the past fifteen years due to their ability to cover large swaths of land at regular intervals, making them ideal for monitoring environmental trends. The FINCH mission, a 3U+ CubeSat equipped with a hyperspectral camera, aims to monitor crop residue cover in agricultural fields. Although hyperspectral imaging captures both spectral and spatial information, it is prone to various types of noise, including random noise, stripe noise, and dead pixels. Effective denoising of these images is crucial for downstream scientific tasks. Traditional methods, including hand-crafted techniques encoding strong priors, learned 2D image denoising methods applied across different hyperspectral bands, or diffusion generative models applied independently on bands, often struggle with varying noise strengths across spectral bands, leading to significant spectral distortion. This paper presents a novel approach to hyperspectral image denoising using latent diffusion models that integrate spatial and spectral information. We particularly do so by building a 3D diffusion model and presenting a 3-stage training approach on real and synthetically crafted datasets. The proposed method preserves image structure while reducing noise. Evaluations on both popular hyperspectral denoising datasets and synthetically crafted datasets for the FINCH mission demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.

Automatically designing fast and space-efficient digital circuits is challenging because circuits are discrete, must exactly implement the desired logic, and are costly to simulate. We address these challenges with CircuitVAE, a search algorithm that embeds computation graphs in a continuous space and optimizes a learned surrogate of physical simulation by gradient descent. By carefully controlling overfitting of the simulation surrogate and ensuring diverse exploration, our algorithm is highly sample-efficient, yet gracefully scales to large problem instances and high sample budgets. We test CircuitVAE by designing binary adders across a large range of sizes, IO timing constraints, and sample budgets. Our method excels at designing large circuits, where other algorithms struggle: compared to reinforcement learning and genetic algorithms, CircuitVAE typically finds 64-bit adders which are smaller and faster using less than half the sample budget. We also find CircuitVAE can design state-of-the-art adders in a real-world chip, demonstrating that our method can outperform commercial tools in a realistic setting.

4$d$ transition metal oxide (TMO) offers an intriguing puzzle for their electronic and magnetic ground state. They are in the cross-over regime of strong spin orbit interaction (SOI) and electron-electron correlation ($U$) with quenched orbital angular momentum. Our work unravels the electronic and magnetic ground state of the less investigated 4$d^{3}$ double perovskite ruthenates A$_{2}$LaRuO$_6$ (A = Ca, Ba). The negligible effect of SOI is evident from the bulk magnetic, specific heat measurements and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, indicating a classical spin-only magnetic ground state (${S}$ = 3/2) for the materials. Magnetization measurements show that both materials have long range antiferromagnetic order with high degree of magnetic frustration ($f$ $\approx$13 -15). Interestingly, a near $T^2$- behavior is observed in low-$T$ magnetic heat capacity measurement, indicating the presence of low-dimensional spin-wave exciation and magnetic frustration in both materials. The temperature dependent resistivity measurements and electronic band structure calculations confirm a conventional Mott insulating ground state in these two systems. Moreover, our experimental investigation and DFT calculations highlight the reason for the nonexistence of Sr$_2$LaRuO$_6$.

A study of resonant structures in $B^{+}\rightarrow{D^{\ast+}D^{-}K^{+}}$ and $B^{+}\rightarrow{D^{\ast-}D^{+}K^{+}}$ decays is performed, using proton-proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7, 8$, and $13$ TeV recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. A simultaneous amplitude fit is performed to the two channels with contributions from resonances decaying to $D^{\ast-}D^{+}$ and $D^{\ast+}D^{-}$ states linked by $C$ parity. This procedure allows the $C$-parities of resonances in the $D^{\ast\pm}D^{\mp}$ mass spectra to be determined. Four charmonium(-like) states are observed decaying into $D^{\ast\pm}D^{\mp}$: $η_c(3945)$, $h_c(4000)$, $χ_{c1}(4010)$ and $h_c(4300)$, with quantum numbers $J^{PC}$ equal to $0^{-+}$, $1^{+-}$, $1^{++}$ and $1^{+-}$, respectively. At least three of these states have not been observed previously. In addition, the existence of the $T_{\bar{c}\bar{s}0}^{*}(2870)^{0}$ and $T_{\bar{c}\bar{s}1}^{*}(2900)^{0}$ resonances in the $D^-K^+$ mass spectrum, already observed in the $B^+ \to D^+ D^- K^+$ decay, is confirmed in a different production channel.

A search for radiative decay of $B^0_s$ mesons to orbitally excited $K^+K^-$ states is performed using proton proton collisions recorded by the \mbox{LHCb}\xspace experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9~fb$^{-1}$. The dikaon spectrum in the mass range $m_{KK}<2400$~{\ensuremath{\,\text{Me\kern -0.1em V\!/}c^2}\xspace} is dominated by the $φ(1020)$ resonance that accounts for almost 70$\%$ of the decay rate. Considering the possible contributions of $f_2{(1270)}$, $f'_2{(1525)}$ and $f_2{(2010)}$ meson states, the overall tensor contribution to the amplitude is measured to be \begin{equation}
{\cal F}_{\{f_2\}}=16.8\pm 0.5\mathrm{~(stat.)}\pm0.7\mathrm{~(syst.)}\%,\nonumber \end{equation} mostly dominated by the $f'_2(1525)$ state. Several statistically equivalent solutions are obtained for the detailed resonant structure depending on whether the smaller amplitudes interfere destructively or constructively with the dominant amplitude. The preferred solution that corresponds to the lowest values of the fit fractions along with constructive interference leads to the relative branching ratio measurement \begin{equation}
\frac{{\cal B}(B^0_s\to f'_2γ)}{{\cal B}(B^0_s\toφγ)}= 19.4^{+0.9}_{-0.8}\mathrm{~(stat.)}{}^{+1.4}_{-0.5}\mathrm{~(syst.)}\pm0.5\mathrm{~(\cal{B})}\%\nonumber, \end{equation} where the last uncertainty is due to the ratio of measured branching fractions to the $K^+K^-$ final state. This result represents the first observation of the radiative $B^0_s\to f'_2(1525)γ$ decay, which is the second radiative transition observed in the $B^0_s$ sector.

Decoder-only large language model (LLM)-based embedding models are beginning to outperform BERT or T5-based embedding models in general-purpose text embedding tasks, including dense vector-based retrieval. In this work, we introduce the NV-Embed model with a variety of architectural designs and training procedures to significantly enhance the performance of LLM as a versatile embedding model, while maintaining its simplicity and reproducibility. For model architecture, we propose a latent attention layer to obtain pooled embeddings, which consistently improves retrieval and downstream task accuracy compared to mean pooling or using the last <EOS> token embedding from LLMs. To enhance representation learning, we remove the causal attention mask of LLMs during contrastive training. For model training, we introduce a two-stage contrastive instruction-tuning method. It first applies contrastive training with instructions on retrieval datasets, utilizing in-batch negatives and curated hard negative examples. At stage-2, it blends various non-retrieval datasets into instruction tuning, which not only enhances non-retrieval task accuracy but also improves retrieval performance. Combining these techniques, our NV-Embed model, using only publicly available data, has achieved a record-high score of 69.32, ranking No. 1 on the Massive Text Embedding Benchmark (MTEB) (as of May 24, 2024), with 56 tasks, encompassing retrieval, reranking, classification, clustering, and semantic textual similarity tasks. Notably, our model also attains the highest score of 59.36 on 15 retrieval tasks in the MTEB benchmark (also known as BEIR). We will open-source the model at: https://huggingface.co/nvidia/NV-Embed-v1.

A comprehensive study of the local and nonlocal amplitudes contributing to the decay $B^0\rightarrow K^{*0}(\to K^+π^-) μ^+μ^-$ is performed by analysing the phase-space distribution of the decay products. The analysis is based on $pp$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.4fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. This measurement employs for the first time a model of both one-particle and two-particle nonlocal amplitudes, and utilises the complete dimuon mass spectrum without any veto regions around the narrow charmonium resonances. In this way it is possible to explicitly isolate the local and nonlocal contributions and capture the interference between them. The results show that interference with nonlocal contributions, although larger than predicted, only has a minor impact on the Wilson Coefficients determined from the fit to the data. For the local contributions, the Wilson Coefficient $C_9$, responsible for vector dimuon currents, exhibits a $2.1σ$ deviation from the Standard Model expectation. The Wilson Coefficients $C_{10}$, $C_{9}'$ and $C_{10}'$ are all in better agreement than $C_{9}$ with the Standard Model and the global significance is at the level of $1.5σ$. The model used also accounts for nonlocal contributions from $B^{0}\to K^{*0}\left[τ^+τ^-\to μ^+μ^-\right]$ rescattering, resulting in the first direct measurement of the $b sττ$ vector effective-coupling $C_{9τ}$.

ASASSN-20hx, a.k.a AT2020ohl, is an ambiguous nuclear transient (ANT), which was discovered in the nearby galaxy NGC6297 by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN). We have investigated the evolution of AT2020ohl using a multi-wavelength dataset to explain the geometry of the system and the energy radiated by it between X-ray and radio wavelengths. Our X-ray, UV/optical, and radio observations of the object jointly clarify the association of AT2020ohl with the nuclear activity of NGC6297. We detected radio counterpart of AT2020ohl 111 days and 313 days after the discovery in Jansky Very Large Array X-band with flux densities 47$\pm$14 $μ$Jy and 34$\pm$3 $μ$Jy, respectively. Using multi-wavelength data analysis, we nullify the possibility of associating any stellar disruption process with this event. We found some evidence showing that the host galaxy is a merger remnant, so the possibility of a binary SMBH system can not be ruled out. The central SMBH has a mass of $\sim1.2\times10^7$ M$_\odot$. We propose the accretion disk activity as the origin of AT2020ohl $-$ it is either due to disk accretion event onto the central SMBH or due to the sudden accretion activity in a preexisting accretion disk of the system during the interaction of two SMBHs which became gravitationally bound during a merger process. However, we also admit that with the existing dataset, it is impossible to say definitively, among these two probabilities, which one is the origin of this nuclear transient.

The polarization is studied using the decay $Λ\rightarrow p π^-$ together with its charge conjugated process, the integrated values measured are
$$ P_Λ = 0.029 \pm 0.019 \, (\rm{stat}) \pm 0.012 \, (\rm{syst}) \, , $$ $$ P_{\barΛ} = 0.003 \pm 0.023 \, (\rm{stat}) \pm 0.014 \,(\rm{syst}) \,. $$
Furthermore, the results are shown as a function of the Feynman~$x$~variable, transverse momentum, pseudorapidity and rapidity of the hyperons, and are compared with previous measurements.

A measurement of time-dependent $CP$ violation in $D^0 \rightarrow π^+ π^- π^0$ decays using a $pp$ collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment in 2012 and from 2015 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.7$\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$, is presented. The initial flavour of each $D^0$ candidate is determined from the charge of the pion produced in the $D^*(2010)^+ \rightarrow D^0 π^+$ decay. The decay $D^0 \rightarrow K^- π^+ π^0$ is used as a control channel to validate the measurement procedure. The gradient of the time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry, $ΔY$, in $D^0 \rightarrow π^+ π^- π^0$ decays is measured to be \begin{equation*}
ΔY = (-1.3 \pm 6.3 \pm 2.4) \times 10^{-4}, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, which is compatible with $CP$ conservation.

The ratio of branching fractions of the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ and $B^{0}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}$ decays is measured to be $0.173\pm 0.006\pm 0.010$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using partially reconstructed $D^{*+}_{s}\to D^{+}_{s}γ$ and $D^{+}_{s}π^{0}$ decays, the ratio of branching fractions between the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{*+}_{s}π^{+}$ and $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decays is determined as $1.31\pm 0.07\pm 0.14$. An amplitude analysis of the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decay is performed for the first time, revealing dominant contributions from known excited charm resonances decaying to the $D^{*-}π^{+}$ final state. No significant evidence of exotic contributions in the $D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ or $D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}$ channels is found. The fit fraction of the scalar state $T_{c\bar{s} 0}^{\ast}(2900)^{++}$ observed in the $B^{+}\to D^{-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decay is determined to be less than 2.3% at a 90% confidence level.

The pursuit of a comprehensive theory of gravity has led to the exploration of various alternative models, necessitating a model-independent framework. The Konoplya-Rezzolla-Zhidenko (KRZ) parameterization offers a robust method for approximating stationary axisymmetric black hole spacetimes, characterized by a rapidly converging continued-fraction expansion. However, while analytical metrics benefit from this approach, numerical metrics derived from complex gravitational theories remain presenting computational challenges. Bridging this gap, we propose a method for a numerical KRZ parameterization, tested and demonstrated on pseudo-numerical Kerr and Kerr-Sen spacetimes. Our approach involves constructing numerical grids to represent metric coefficients and using the grids for fitting the parameters up to an arbitrary order. We analyze the accuracy of our method across different orders of approximation, considering deviations in the metric functions and shadow images. In both Kerr and Kerr-Sen cases, we observe rapid convergence of errors with increasing orders of continued fractions, albeit with variations influenced by spin and charge. Our results underscore the potential of the proposed algorithm for parameterizing numerical metrics, offering a pathway for further investigations across diverse gravity theories.

Abstract:
We show that two independent elephant random walks on the integer lattice $\mathbb{Z}$ meet each other finitely often or infinitely often depends on whether the memory parameter $p$ is strictly larger than $3/4$ or not. Asymptotic results for the distance between them are also obtained.

Performance modeling is a key issue in queuing theory and operation research. It is well-known that the length of a queue that awaits service or the time spent by a job in a queue depends not only on the service rate, but also crucially on the fluctuations in service time. The larger the fluctuations, the longer the delay becomes and hence, this is a major hindrance for the queue to operate efficiently. Various strategies have been adapted to prevent this drawback. In this perspective, we investigate the effects of one such novel strategy namely resetting or restart, an emerging concept in statistical physics and stochastic complex process, that was recently introduced to mitigate fluctuations-induced delays in queues. In particular, we show that a service resetting mechanism accompanied with an overhead time can remarkably shorten the average queue lengths and waiting times. We examine various resetting strategies and further shed light on the intricate role of the overhead times to the queuing performance. Our analysis opens up future avenues in operation research where resetting-based strategies can be universally promising.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in rescue robots due to their vital role in addressing emergency scenarios and providing crucial support in challenging or hazardous situations where human intervention is difficult. However, very few of these robots are capable of actively engaging with humans and undertaking physical manipulation tasks. This limitation is largely attributed to the absence of tools that can realistically simulate physical interactions, especially the contact mechanisms between a robotic gripper and a human body. In this letter, we aim to address key limitations in current developments towards robotic casualty manipulation. Firstly, we present an integrative simulation framework for casualty manipulation. We adapt a finite element method (FEM) tool into the grasping and manipulation scenario, and the developed framework can provide accurate biomechanical reactions resulting from manipulation. Secondly, we conduct a detailed assessment of grasping stability during casualty grasping and manipulation simulations. To validate the necessity and superior performance of the proposed high-fidelity simulation framework, we conducted a qualitative and quantitative comparison of grasping stability analyses between the proposed framework and the state-of-the-art multi-body physics simulations. Through these efforts, we have taken the first step towards a feasible solution for robotic casualty manipulation.
