Abstract

The type series of the earliest kulan Equus (Hemionus) nalaikhaensis Kuznetsova et Zhegallo, 1996 from the Pleistocene of Mongolia is described in detail. The lectotype (an almost complete skull without a lower jaw) is designated. The assignment of this species to the subgenus Hemionus is validated.
