The Kelpie is an Australian breed of sheep dog. They are medium sized dogs and seem to come in a variety of colours including red and black with white tips.

They are clever, loyal and friendly and typically have an excess of nervous energy. They are renowned for running along the back of sheep when they are herding them. (I known an urban example who uses this skill to climb trees and run along the branchs).

Some people claim that they have some dingo or Australian native dog blood.

Kelpies have been very successful at herding sheep in the mountainous areas of New Zealand.

As far as I know they have no special health problems. They seem to adapt reasonably well to an urban environment provided they have an adequate yard.
