ברוך הבא

With apologies, I am much more comfortable reading Hebrew than writing it. May I mention three things to you?

  • If you are going to create flag templates, we are trying to name them consistently with those on other wikis, using the formal ISO code for the country. Therefore, I moved {{MAD}} > {{HUN}}, leaving behind a redirect.
  • I'm going to encourage you not to start adding TemplateData here, unless you are planning to maintain it yourself. This is a very small community, and we are not going to be able to spend the time to fill that in.
  • If you actually do speak Judeo-Spanish, I'll encourage you to add that to the Babel on your userpage. StevenJ81 (discusión) • 20 Kislev 5777 • 20:32 19 Diz 2016 (UTC)
@StevenJ81:
  • Well I actually wasn't sure how to name this template so I Just used the 3 first letters. Thank you for moving it.
  • I just filled in the city template and didn't know the parameter names so I had to create it. Anyways, it took like 2 seconds. I guess I'm just used to it because I use it all the time on hewiki
  • I don't know Judeo-Spanish, I just copied some sentences from other articles and changed the numbers/country name.

Fine. Glad to have you around. If your copy-and-paste activities aren't grammatically right, one of the other admins who actually speaks JS will step in.
If you can think of ways we can recruit people from hewiki to come here and help I'd love to hear them. StevenJ81 (discusión) • 20 Kislev 5777 • 20:45 19 Diz 2016 (UTC)
PS: Please see my proposal about {{ויקיפדיות}} at he:ויקיפדיה:תבנית/אולם דיונים. I'm not telling you to take my side, just wonder what you think. StevenJ81 (discusión) • 20 Kislev 5777 • 22:53 19 Diz 2016 (UTC)
@StevenJ81:. took your side.
question: how do I translate the phrase: "The city was founded in X"? .
also, what does "Djentilisio" mean?
--Mikey641 (discusión) 13:25 20 Diz 2016 (UTC)
I honestly don't know. Calling User:Universal Life, User:Maor X, User:Marrovi for help.
Thanks for your support. StevenJ81 (discusión) • 20 Kislev 5777 • 14:35 20 Diz 2016 (UTC)
Mikey, does policy on hewiki allow the changes I've proposed, or would it close on no consensus/no change? StevenJ81 (discusión) • 29 Kislev 5777 • 19:49 28 Diz 2016 (UTC)
@StevenJ81: I think that it will close on no consensus/no change--Mikey641 (discusión) 19:05 29 Diz 2016 (UTC)
Fine. Thanks for letting me know. StevenJ81 (discusión) • 1 Teveth 5777 • 21:11 29 Diz 2016 (UTC)

Some suggestions and conventions

[trocar el manadero]

Hi, Mikey.

  • The convention for Hebrew-script spelling of Ladino is not the same as the convention for transcription of foreign languages into Hebrew nor the same as the convention for Yiddish. See Hebrew orthography, which I should really put into a Wikipedia-space page. See how I handled Category:Moldova. Note that although Universal Life says "geresh", we are generally using the rafe glyph and not the geresh here. Rafe glyph for all letters that use them are available in EditTools below, though you might have to activate them as a gadget.
  • I'm going to play around with some of the Modules you imported. In particular, I've only been using {{#property...}} here, and would like to use additional importation from Wikidata. Part of the problem with {{#property...}} for ladwiki—part of what has inhibited me from using it more—is that if there isn't a Ladino label in Wikidata it returns a Q number rather than a name. So you have to go into Wikidata and add a label. Does the module you imported allow one to pull a different-language label from an item? I may ask your advice on some of these things.
  • If you end up writing Hebrew-script parallel pages, you'll end up using Module:Interwiki. I'll show you how to use that if you need. StevenJ81 (discusión) • 20 Kislev 5777 • 17:52 20 Diz 2016 (UTC)
  • In hebrew we write מולדובה, but I saw in the atricle Moldova that they wrote מולדאוה so I thaught that's how it's written in ladino. Thanks for the correction.
  • Have fun! I needed those modules so I can create sort of a "template" to create articles for capital cities using wikidata, i haven't finished yet.
    • when I use #property in hewiki and there isn't a label it just gives me the english label, and here it gives me the spanish label. Are you sure that #property gave you Q...?
    • The module I imported does allow one to pull a different-language label from an item, the module is module:wikidata, function "labelIn". {{#invoke:wikidata|labelIn|Lang|Q..}} (you don't have to use the Q...)
    • Note: you should generaly use module:propertyLink or #statements because they output the blue links (statements is new, you should try it)
    • Another Note: I imported the modules from hebrew wikipedia because they have some improvements, for example if you try to import population from wikidata it will produce: Population (Year)
  • I will check it out

The editors here have become more proficient in Hebrew-script orthography over time.
I'll change the Moldova page. It turns out that perhaps Moldava is a more common Judeo-Spanish rendering, so I changed the Hebrew orthography again to be consistent with that. I decided not to change the page names or category names in Latin script, though I changed the spelling in the lede of the article itself.
#property must have changed since I last played with it. It used to give Q-codes. (As you might have guessed, our language cascade here is lad > es > en, so you would get Spanish names first.)
Is there documentation for #statements anywhere? StevenJ81 (discusión) • 21 Kislev 5777 • 19:07 20 Diz 2016 (UTC)
@StevenJ81: I'm not sure if there is a documentation for statements, I just got notified about it this week--Mikey641 (discusión) 19:11 20 Diz 2016 (UTC)
I saw that, too. We'll have to wait, I guess. StevenJ81 (discusión) • 21 Kislev 5777 • 19:11 20 Diz 2016 (UTC)
