Takeichi Nishi (西 竹一, Nishi Takeichi, July 12, 1902 – c. March 22, 1945) was a Japanese military officer and athlete. He is best known as an equestrian who competed in two Summer Olympic Games.[1]
Nishi won a gold medal in show jumping at the 1932 Summer Olympics at Los Angeles. He was also on the Japanese team at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.[2]
He was a tank unit commander at the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was killed in action during the defense of the Japanese island of Iwo Jima.[1]
In popular culture
In the 2006 American film Letters from Iwo Jima, Nishi was played by Korean-Japanese actor Tsuyoshi Ihara.[3]
