orphan disease (Q15712664): rare disease without a market large enough to gain support and resources for discovering treatments for it (except by government grants): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)

Duplicit with Q929833 Vlout (talk) 07:32, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The statements on orphan disease (Q15712664) identify it as a subclass of (P279) rare disease (Q929833) not a duplicate of it. Pinging user:Ske who added that statement. Thryduulf (talk) 10:42, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

According to w:Rare disease There is no single, widely accepted definition for rare diseases. Some definitions rely solely on the number of people living with a disease, and other definitions include other factors, such as the existence of adequate treatments or the severity of the disease. So depending of the definition chosen for the two items, they can be the same, one be a subset of the other (orphan=rare AND no treatment available) or even being unrelated (orphan= no treatment available). In practice I don't know if we need the two items. Ske (talk) 17:47, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Icarius (Q25927706) and Icarius (Q25927811) should be re-merged. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:50, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
