Images from Morguefile

"...license... contains a condition restricting images from being used in a "stand alone manner"" - I doubt in correctness of this interpretation of morgueFile license. It states: "Stand alone basis - You can not sell, license, sublicense, rent, transfer or distribute this image exactly as it is without alteration." I understand it as "your derived image must be stand-alone (unique and different from the original), and then you can sell and so on." So, "stand alone manner" seems to be not prohibited, but obligatory. And now about File:Elgaria kingii juvenile.jpg: if you compare it with the original, you can clearly see the alteration, which is not only cropping, but also removing of junk. Wouldn't not allowing selling the unaltered image make it non-free? Hop on Bananas (talk) 00:56, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Verbatim copies afe unfree, and altered ones become free. Stas (talk) 17:02, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I took a look at the first file in the set and that file seems to be unaltered. We can't host unaltered pictures from that website. Additionally, the licence seems to prohibit non-commercial use of files hosted on the website. We can only accept files which can be used for both commercial and non-commercial purposes. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:30, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the license. Stas (talk) 20:48, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That licence says that the files can be used for commercial purposes provided that you modify them first. The licence doesn't say that you can use the files for non-commercial purposes, so we will have to assume that non-commercial use is prohibited. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:58, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The license for Morguefile is almost certainly unfree. It requires deriving upon the image, and the result may only be used commercially. Keep them on Commons:Bad sources, but rewrite their entry. Hop on Bananas (talk) 21:47, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted: Commons requires that images be free for use anywhere by anyone for any purpose. Although the license on these is not completely clear, it does restirct certain uses and is, therefore, unacceptable. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 02:42, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
