Hard omissions

I've added the concept of "hard" omissions to the galleries. If the bot sees one of these categories on the file, it will never include it.

To give an example:

• My own gallery is for Multilingual legend
• This would normally include Sutton Nicholls, A New map of Gallia Cisalpina & Graecia Magna (FL37479375 2590657).jpg via English-language maps.
• However, I have opted out of any pages in Eran Laor Cartographic Collection, so it was omitted.

Regarding depth:

• I have set the depth set at 0, so it applies only to files directly under Eran Laor Cartographic Collection.
• If I set the depth to 1, it would omit child categories of Category:Eran Laor Cartographic Collection.
• If I set to 2, children of children
• etc.

This is a useful but powerful feature. I recommend using it sparingly. If you request a depth too high, you are likely to exclude a bunch of images you want, and there will be nothing in the logs indicating why. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:39, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Magog the Ogre, first thanks for your work with your bot. We, Wikipedians in Dresden (Germany), use this bot work for our daily check for input of new images about Dresden. It is a great help for us. See also this nice overview: User:Derbrauni/NeuesDresden. - But we have a problem. Under the c:Category:Dresden is also the men c:Category:Pyotr Stolypin. He was born in Dresden and later politican in the Russian Empire. Since 2008 there is a c:Category:Stolypin Medal in Russia, named after him. And now we get many images from all this c:Category:Recipients of the Stolypin Medal in our c:Category:Dresden. Yesterday for example 30 images (See log). This had nothing to do with the city Dresden.

It is possible to exclude this category c:Category:Recipients of the Stolypin Medal. So that your scan for "Dresden" don't go in this tree branch? This would help a lot. --sk (talk) 12:43, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Magog the Ogre, your bot update also the User:Frze/Category:Dresden_uploads. Since April 2018 the User:Frze (also from Dresden) is not working in Wikipedia or commons. - It is possible to stop the bot update of this user gallery. They collect all the same images as in User:Derbrauni/NeuesDresden. For example this image File:20240707.Palais Sommer.Neumarkt.-013.jpg was embedded in both user galleries.
