What seems to be the issue, Jimknut? // hackmiester (contact) 18:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm still trying to find if there is any way you can merge two or more infoboxes together without redesigning the entire structure of the parameters (i.e without designing it simular to a wikitable). Jimknut (talk) 19:30, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Merging Infoboxes

edit

Is there any way that two or more infoboxes can be merged into one without totally redoing the entire formatting of both? For example: The Wikipedia entry on Bing Crosby, who was a highly successful recording artist as well as a highly successful film actor. How would I merge "Infobox Musical Artist" with "Infobox Actor"? One contains perameters that the other one lacks, and vice versa. However, if these infoboxes are kept separate then there is a repeat of information (such as his birth and death dates). Please help me if you can.

That's a good question. I would recommend continuing to use both infoboxes, but simply leaving the repeat parameters blank so they don't show up in the second one. I'd list the occupation in which he's most accomplished first, then additional infoboxes in the subsections to which they apply - as Bing Crosby is currently. But I'd say you could delete his birth/death info in the actor infobox. To directly answer your question: no, I'm not aware of any way to merge infoboxes. If you have a strong preference for a "unified" box, I suggest making a totally new one. Hoof Hearted (talk) 17:11, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. However, there is a "glitch" with "Infobox actor". For some one who is living the background color is gold — once you add in a death date the background color changes to silver. Therefore, I'm going to rig up a new one and propose it to Wikipedia.
