Generally, any relevant external links should be listed in an "External links" section at the end of the article and meet the external links guidelines. Decline reason:
Most people who spam don't consider what they are doing to be spamming. That's probably why you view it as a mistake- I'm not convinced that it wasn't deliberate either. I also don't think that you spammed the link you did at random.
