There are inconsistencies in the population data presented in this article. The 141685 figure is a lowering of the previous figure of around 156000, but the city's area and density were not changed and thus not adjusted in line with the population. Furthermore, the criteria used for such a low figure is unclear. The only evidence for how that figure was arrived at that I can find is on this German website: https://citypopulation.de/en/uk/yorkshireandthehumber/york/E63000615__york/
This site indicates that the boundaries used to restrict the population to 141685 exclude significant chunks of the contiguous urban built up area of the city, particularly the area around Huntington. There is no geographical reason to exclude that part of the city and certain others. The Huntington area also includes the Monks Cross shopping centre and the York Community Stadium, both pictured in the article. They shouldn't be pictured if they are not to be regarded as part of the settlement of York. Another inconsistency. Schmegelian (talk) 00:19, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
