Wikimedia Foundation Bulletin: an experiment[edit]

Dear all,

We invite your feedback on improving communication from and about the Wikimedia Foundation. The Wikimedia Foundation Bulletin is an experiment to establish a more standardised format and cadence which would include headlines and links from the Wikimedia Foundation's technical work, and also work with communities, and affiliates as well as other stakeholders like readers, donors, regulators, the media and the public.

Please find here a page on Meta with a short overview of the concept itself: Wikimedia Foundation Bulletin. The first “trial” issue is here.

Your feedback is welcome on the concept itself, but of course, details and suggestions on anything from the design to specific words used would also be helpful!

You can subscribe to the bulletin via talk page delivery on any Wikimedia wiki. Based on your feedback, a potential commitment to this form of communication would be planned for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

As this is an experiment, we are interested to check the reception, what is missing, what is too much, and whether this is something to consider investing more time and effort into. But if you like this experiment and want to share it with your community, by all means, do translate it and post it where appropriate on your wiki, and let us know how it was received on the talk page or email askcac(_AT_)wikimedia.org!

You also can come and give your feedback at the next Conversation with the Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees on 27 June at 18:00 UTC.

U4C Special Election - Call for Candidates[edit]

You can find this message translated into additional languages on Meta-wiki. Please help translate to your language

Hello all,

A special election has been called to fill additional vacancies on the U4C. The call for candidates phase is open from now through July 19, 2024.

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) is a global group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. Community members are invited to submit their applications in the special election for the U4C. For more information and the responsibilities of the U4C, please review the U4C Charter.

In this special election, according to chapter 2 of the U4C charter, there are 9 seats available on the U4C: four community-at-large seats and five regional seats to ensure the U4C represents the diversity of the movement. No more than two members of the U4C can be elected from the same home wiki. Therefore, candidates must not have English Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, or Italian Wikipedia as their home wiki.

Read more and submit your application on Meta-wiki.

In cooperation with the U4C,

Wikimedia Commons is planning to limit cross-wiki uploads[edit]

Due to massive upload of copyright violations and wrong licensed files through the cross-wiki upload form the Wikimedia Commons community decided to block this feature for new accounts how have not edited on Wikimedia Commons before. The background of this is described on c:Commons:Cross-wiki upload. The date when this will be enforced is not yet decided. Concerns can be expressed on the talk page.
