User talk:Jashiin~commonswiki
Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries) or put the images directly into a category, or do both. To find good categories for your images, the CommonsSense tool may help.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -- Duesentrieb(?!) 01:01, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi - thanks for your reply. First of all, the images definitely blong on commons; all media under a suitable license and remotely useful to any wikimedia project is welcome.
About categorization: parts of the category structure is quite a mess; In my experience, it's easy to find some category that somehow fits, but it's quite hard for find a really good place for an image. I would generally put each image into two categories: ony by their form (i.e. sheet music) and one for the composer; in addition, you can categorize by genre/period. Some categories to consider (with links to CategoryTree, so you can browse the structure a bit):
- Category:Music - CategoryTree for Music - only if all else fails
- Category:Sheet music - CategoryTree for Sheet_music - also very general... look for a cood subcategory
- Category:Baroque - CategoryTree for Baroque - perhaps create "baroque music" in addition to "baroque composers" as a subcategory
- Category:Composers - CategoryTree for Composers - look for a good subcategory
Specifically, the following categories exist:
- Category:Compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach - CategoryTree for Compositions_by_Johann_Sebastian_Bach
- Category:Johann Pachelbel - CategoryTree for Johann_Pachelbel
Try to browse the structure a bit, and try to find categories for your images with CommonsSense - what it suggests is rarely perfect, but usually helpful.

Sloppy editing
[edit]Thanks for bringing Category:Gua Xi to my attention, there are no linguistic mysteries, and no excuses, just sloppy editing on my part, it should be Guo not Gua, I think I must have got the category name wrong on the first file I edited and perpetuated it by cut and paste. The correct version Category:Guo Xi has now been created and the files moved.KTo288 (talk) 15:51, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Jashiin. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Jashiin~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution.
