Although Sonakshi Sinha’s marriage was a mostly low-key event, it still became a focal point of controversies and a target of trolls, due to the fact that she chose to have an interfaith marriage. The 'Dabangg' actress and her husband, actor Zaheer Iqbal had to disable the comment section on their social media portals.

After dating for seven years, Sonakshi and Zaheer chose to have a civil marriage ceremony, which was held at the actress' residence in Bandra on June 23rd. Later, they held a reception at Bastian, a posh restaurant and pub in Mumbai.

The actress’s father, veteran actor-turned-producer Shatrughan Sinha recently revealed a video of behind-the-scenes pictures from the event. In the videos and pictures, the 'Kalicharan' star could be seen performing Hindu rituals for the bride & the bridegroom.

Sharing the video, Shatrughan wrote, “With an attitude of gratitude we would like to thank everyone for celebrating with us on our special day seems to be the ‘wedding of the century’ with your warmth, love, congratulatory messages for our darling daughter #SonakshiSinha with #ZaheerIqbal as they start a new chapter in their beautiful journey of their lives.”

Some netizens expressed awe at the ceremony which included people from many religions participating in Puja. Some lauded how this event proves of India’s inherent religious syncretism and plurality. One fan wrote on X, “So inspiring. Love my India. So many religions so many people but we still remain in harmony most of the time compared to any other country.” “Wow, Zaheer is performing puja,” another tweeted.

Earlier, the actor had defended his daughter when she was trolled for her interfaith marriage. “Anand Bakshi saab has written about such professional protestors, ‘Kucch to log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. To this I would like to add, ‘Kehne waale agar bekar, bekaam-kaaj ke ho to kehna hi kaam ban jata hai (For unemployed people, this is all the work they have).’ My daughter has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional,” he told Times Now.
