    Warner Bros. has officially slated a new film by Denis Villeneuve for release on December 18, 2026. Known for his directorial prowess in films like Dune and its upcoming sequel, Villeneuve’s next project promises to be an "event" film, premiering in IMAX as well.

    While the specifics of Villeneuve’s new movie are currently shrouded in mystery, it was previously referred to as an “untitled WB family event film” before the director’s involvement was confirmed. Whether it remains a family-oriented project is yet to be confirmed.

    However, obstacles such as finalizing the script and casting decisions still need to be overcome.

    Denis Villeneuve has previously hinted at his desire to tackle another project before returning to Dune Messiah. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he mentioned having multiple projects in development, including a secretive endeavor that he aims to bring to fruition soon.

    In April 2024, it was reported that Villeneuve is also set to direct an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario, marking another ambitious undertaking following his work on the Dune series.
