- Ashwin Suryakant Dani graduated from the University of Bombay with specialisation in the technology of Paints, Varnishes and Pigments. After his graduation, his father - who co-founded Asian Paints in 1942 - sent him to the US for further studies
- He joined the University of Akron in Ohio, from where he got a Masters Degree in Polymer Science. After his MSc, Dani attended the Rensselaer Polytechnic in New York from where he secured a Diploma in Colour Science
- Dani joined Inmont Corp (now BASF) in 1967 as a developmental chemist in Detroit. He returned from the US and joined Asian Paints in 1968 as a Senior Executive
- In Asian Paints, he worked in various departments and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director in 1997 and remained in the post till 2009
- The paint tycoon is a technocrat and under his watch, Asian Paints invested a substantial amount of capital in research and development
- He was the first to introduce Computerised Colour matching in India, a paint selection process leveraging digital innovations, which is commonly used now
- During a career spanning of over 40 years, Dani led Asian Paints in better pricing of products across categories, thereby ensuring its unhindered dominance over decades
