- Kiren Rijiju did his schooling in Arunachal Pradesh and then went to Delhi for higher education. He enrolled himself at Delhi's Hansraj College from where he graduated in arts and then went on to complete a law degree from Delhi University's Faculty of Law
- He belongs to a family of politicians and his father was the first pro-term speaker of Arunachal Pradesh. He showed an interest in public affairs from a young age
- In 2002, at the age of 31, he was appointed as a Member of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, a division of the Government of India
- In 2004, at the age of 33, he was first elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from the West Arunachal Pradesh constituency, one of the largest in the country
- As a young MP, he had an attendance of over 90% and actively took part in parliamentary work outside and inside the House. It helped him earn accolades from seasoned colleagues. He took part in many debates and raised several questions of national and international importance
- In 2 009, he joined the Congress, but lost the Lok Sabha election and later became the advisor to former chief minister Dorjee Khandu
- Riding the Modi wave, he came back strongly and won the 2014 election on a BJP ticket. As Modi planned to develop the North East on several fronts and wanted the saffron party to grow in the region, Rijiju became his “Look East” candidate
- He was appointed as the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs in the first term of the Modi government and is widely recognised as the voice of the North East, both within the government and in the public eye
- On the issue of Rohingyas, he took a tough stance and said they are illegal immigrants and should be deported
- Rijiju was re-elected to 17th Lok Sabha in May 2019 and was appointed as the Minister of State for Sports. He also served as the Minister of State for Minority Affairs before being given temporary charge of the Ayush ministry
- As a Sports Minister, he earned praise for upgrading sports infrastructure across various SAI facilities, increasing prize money for sports awards and giving quick assistance to current and former sportspersons facing financial hardships. - In July 2021, he was promoted as a Cabinet Minister and given the charge of Ministry of Law and Justice, a crucial department
