    • M K Stalin entered politics as a teenager and started the DMK Gopalapuram Youth Wing along with his friends
    • In 1973, he became a part of the general committee of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)
    • While he was in his final year of college, Stalin was involved in a protest against the Emergency, imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and was arrested in 1976. He wrote his final exams from jail
    • After forming the youth wing of DMK, he became its secretary in 1982
    • In 1989, he won the Assembly elections from the Thousand Lights constituency
